After having a bye in the opening day of the season West Midlands first fixture in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship  Division was an away game against Cheshire and although in Saturday’s game the ladies ‘B’ lost 4-2, Shellbie Simmons their top player with a 17.28 average the men’s ‘B’ more than made up for their defeat with a resounding 10-2 victory. Man of the match for the men’s ‘B’ was Jack Aldridge who averaged 26.72.

In Sunday’s games the ladies ‘A’, like their ‘B’ side went down 4-2, a 17.55 average earning Jacqueline Maiden the match award. Although the men’s ‘A’ lost 7-5 the result was enough to give West Midlands a slender 19-17 overall victory for the weekend to lift them off the foot of the table, up two places to eighth with a game in hand on four of the seven teams above them. Collecting the match award for men’s ‘A’ was Scott Baker who had a 27.98 average and a 4-2 win over Mal Barrow.
