The final week’s fixtures in the Shirley and District Monday Night League produced no surprise results and no changes to what is now the final league table. Champions The Highwood ended their campaign with a convincing 8-1 win over Sharmans Cross giving them a total point’s for the season of 52 six more than runners up Red Lion who were 6-3 winners at Saracens Jesters.

The Wharf took third place with the same 56 points as Red Lion but with a lesser average after they completed their programme with a 7-2 win away to Legion Royals.

Shirley Spartac won the wooden spoon finishing at the foot of the table as they rounded off the season with a 9-0 defeat by Legion Flights, next to bottom Saracens Jesters had the same 8 points as Spartac but had a far superior average..

Most 180’s for the season went to Andy Foulkes who hit a fantastic 15, the highest finish of 160 was achieved by both Dave Hesketh and Terry Constable.

The South Birmingham League staged their singles knockout which attracted an encouraging 49 entries and claiming the title with a final 2-0 result over Charlie Kingdon was Luis Barberan. In the last four games both Barberan and Kingdon won 2-0 against respective opponents Dan Stone and Wayne Cooper.

The Four Oaks and District Winter League had the semi-finals of their Coronation Shield and Norman Day Cup on their fixture card and in the former both games finished with close 8-7 scorelines. League leaders The Boat went 5-1 up against Golden Hind but Hind fought back and leveled the score at 6-6 but then lost two of the final three games.

Boldmere St Mikes opened up a commanding 7-2 lead over The Fox but had to wait until the final game to clinch their victory and book a final encounter against The Boat.

In the Norman Day Cup division three side Lad in the Lane never got going against second division opponents Erdington Arrows who stormed into an unassailable 8-1 and finished as 12-3 winners. The Digby, also from division three faced tough opposition from the first division outfit Old Oscott Arrows and lost by the same 12-3 margin as their fellow division three team Lad in the Lane.

The only maximum of the week was hit by N.Clarke (The Boat).

With few games remaining in the C’s Club Double Top Wednesday Night League the title now looks to be a two horse race with Simon Edwards taking his points to 76 after winning 2-1 against Gordon Clinton and second placed Bob Nixon, who is just one point behind Edwards after beating Louise Beale 3-0 and Richard Mills 2-1.

Third in the table Mitchell Mann is only one point short of Nixon but he has played four games more, his latest seeing him lose ground as he lost 2-1 to Gary Groves.

Thomas Bent was absent this week from the Shirley Premier League and remains on 80 points from 25 games but his absence has cost him his pole position as John Smyth with a 4-0 win over Lee Holtham has taken over the number one spot with 81 points, however Bent does have four games in hand on him.

Gary Cleverley with a 4-0 win against Dave Barrows followed by a 3-1 success over Phil Thomas holds on to third place with 77 points from 29 games.

A number of players have games in hand but it looks increasingly likely that Thomas Bent will be this season’s new champion.

The highest finish in week 15 was 116 by Jordan Ottley in his 3-1 win over Derek Harper. Maximums were provided by John Smyth, Mick Bown, Sean Talbot and Phil Thomas, while the fastest leg of the night was fourteen darts by Mark Gwalchmai, who also had a 17 dart leg in his 2-2 draw with Phil Thomas.

The Camp Hill League held their presentation night at the Wagon and Horses, Adderley Street which saw the hosts Ashley Pearson received a trophy for winning the Consolation Singles Knockout.

The Stourbridge and District Monday Night League played their doubles knockout down to the final four pairs, the last two going through from the two venues Ashwood and Britannia. Winning through at the Ashwood were Robert Pierce and Sam Aitkens plus Jeff Batham and Carl Penzer, meeting them in the grand finals will be Thomas Safe and Steve Bills plus Phil Poulton and Mick Dangerfield who were the winners at the Britannia.

Game number 20 in the Kings Norton League brought together the league’s top two teams Avenue Social and Rubery RBL. The result was a very close 4-3 win for Avenue to see them not only extend their unbeaten run to seventeen games but also go four points clear with a game in hand on second placed Rubery.

There was a rare win for Grant Arms who are two places off the foot of the table as they won 4-3 away to the team just below them Northfield,  opening up a four points gap between the two teams.

Week six in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League saw Swan lose their first game in six and at the same time their top spot in the table as they dropped to third after being beaten 6-3 at home by Dudley Sports ‘A’ who are placed fourth on ten points. Taking over at the top of the table from Swan are High Oak whose 7-2 win at Wombourne Pool Bar keeps their winning run intact and gives them a slender one leg of average lead over second in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ who won by the same 7-2 margin at Dudley Sports ‘B’.

Despite losing 6-3 at home against Portway, Limes Club have moved up one place from the foot of the table to be replaced by King William who went down 8-1 at home to Bull and Bladder, both of the bottom two teams are without a point so far Limes having the slightly better average of the two.

Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ consolidated their number one position in the Silver End Sunday Morning League by handing out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts Bell to keep them ahead of the chasing pack of Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club, Woodside and Dudley Sports on average as all of the top four have won their opening two games. The Ex Serviceman’s Club won 7-2 at Old Star, Woodside had a closer 5-3 win at High Oak and Dudley Sports were 6-2 winners away to Brickmakers Arms ‘B’.

Apart from the top four teams Glasscutters ‘B’ are the only other team in the league with a 100% win record they are currently seventh in the league after they have played just one fixture.

After just two fixtures have been played in the Netherton Thursday Night League only two of the starting line-up of eight teams are able to boast a 100% win record Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and Bulls Head. The Ex Serviceman’s Club lead the field on average after winning their fixture at Townsend Social Club 6-3 while Bulls Head won by the same margin at home against bottom of the table Saracens Head.

The difference between the top two teams in the Rowley Monday Night League remains the same just one leg of average separating them as both teams won their sixth game 7-2, leader’s Bell winning at Spring Meadow and playing at home second placed George beat Ex Serviceman’s ‘B’.

Ex Serviceman’s ‘A’ lost their third spot after going down 5-4 at home to Tividale FC who are seventh and taking over from Ex Serviceman’s ‘A’ in third place is Ivy Bush who had a 6-3 win at Fairfield the game including two 160 breaks by K.Wright (Fairfield) and B.Singh (Ivy Bush). As a result of their defeat Fairfield drop two places to sixth.

Close behind with a 6-1 win at New Talbot was Court House but there was a couple somewhat surprising results as Waggon and Horses won 4-3 away to undefeated league leaders Miners Arms and Dewdrop ‘A’ won 5-2 away to Tipton Sports who like Miners are unbeaten in the league.

There were 4-3 wins for Hayes Social, Sportsman and Island Inn over respective opponents Merry-Go-Round, Ivy Bush and Wonder. Dewdrop ‘B’ had a bye.

Game 15 in the Pip Club League was a good one for Seeded Division One side Glascote Club as they chalked up their first win in eight as they beat Old Liberal House 5-4, however they still remain at the bottom of the table four points adrift of the two teams just above them Dolphin Wanderers and Old Liberal House.

In the Main Division leaders Bombay Bob’s Boys with a 180 from Mark Martin had a 9-0 win over Sports Bar ‘180’ whose Paul Corfield also hit a maximum and second placed Belgrave Sports and Social Club kept within two points of Bombay with an 8-1 win at Dolphin.
