With all the scheduled fixtures for game number three played in the UKDA National League the position at the top of the Cosmo Darts Premier Division sees Lancashire and Glamorgan hold on to their respective first and second places in the table with Lancashire winning 26-10 at home against Hampshire, who drop from third to sixth on fifty points some thirty-three short of their hosts while Glamorgan’s 20-16 win at Cornwall puts them on sixty-five points, eighteen behind Lancashire. Despite their defeat Cornwall actually move up one place in the table to third, ten points adrift of Glamorgan on fifty-five points.

Humberside got their campaign going as they played their first game of the new season and returned from Essex with an 18-18 draw and although they are residing at the foot of the table they have games in hand on all of the teams above them.

Top individual performances were supplied by Humberside’s Scott Williams who had the men’s ‘A’ top average, a terrific 36.44 in his straight 4-0 win over Brad Halls (Essex) with Cornwall’s Scott Cook not far behind with his 33.40 average, once again with a 4-0 win in his game against Tim Jones (Glamorgan). In the ’B’ games Warwickshire’s Noah Rose recorded the top average of 32.85 in his 4-0 win over Richard Hubbard.

For the ladies ‘A’ Stacey Ellis (Essex) was the top player beating Humberside’s Mel Spicer 3-2 with a 23.37 average while for the ‘B’ games it was Hampshire’s Becca Edwards who topped the charts with a 20.88 average and a 3-0 win over Lancashire’s Annemarie Millership.

There’s no change in the top four teams in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division with London continuing to lead the field, their 19-17 home win over Cambridgeshire taking their points tally to seventy-two and giving them a four points advantage over second placed Kent who had a 20-16 win away to West Midlands. Third in the division Northamptonshire are on the same sixty-eight points as Kent after chalking up a convincing 25-11 home win over Cleveland putting them eighteen points to the good on fourth placed Derbyshire who finished on the wrong side of a 22-14 result in their home tie with Hertfordshire. Oxfordshire got off the mark winning their first fixture of the season 19-17 at home against Sussex and although they remain at the foot of the table they have games in hand on all of the teams above them.

Top averages were recorded in the ‘A’ games by, for the men Joe Croft (Hertfordshire) who had a 32.85 average in his 4-0 win over Derbyshire’s Gary Fenn, while for the ladies it was Oxfordshire’s Deta Hedman who was the top lady with her 25.05 average and her 3-0 win over Julia Saldanha (Sussex). Peter Gallacher (London) took ‘B’ men’s ‘B’ award with his 4-2 win against Cambridgeshire man David Mayle and 32.60 average. Shellbie Simmons had the top ladies ‘B’ average, her 20.31 average and 3-0 win over Samantha Venes earning her the award.

With Black Country having their UKDA National League L-Style Division One home fixture with Berkshire rearranged they lost their number one spot for a couple of weeks until they played the game which resulted in a 23-13 win for the hosts to take them back into pole position with seventy-four points some six to the good on second placed Gwent who had a similar 23-13 result away to Somerset. At the other end of the division Buckinghamshire moved off the foot of the table with a 19-17 home win over Tyne and Wear and despite the close scoreline Buckinghamshire chalked up three of the four top averages for the weekend with Cameron Menzies winning the men’s ‘A’ for his 36.44 average and straight 4-0 win over Eddie Ashman, Fallon Sherrock (26.37) and Kirsty Gibbs (20.00) in turn won the ‘A’ and ‘B’ awards for their respective 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Karen Docherty and Sheila Douglas. The top men’s ‘B’ average went to Suffolk’s Paul Williams who beat Gwynedd’s Alwyn Thomas 3-0 and averaged 33.40, close behind Williams were Scott Bannerman (Gwynedd) and Tony Brown (Merseyside) who both had 31.98 averages.

It’s as-you- were for the top three teams in division two, leaders and newly promoted Salopian adding a 23-13 home win over Norfolk to their account to keep them top of the pile with seventy-three points and a lead of six over second placed Wiltshire who won their home tie with Clwyd 20-16 to keep them a slender one points ahead of third in the division Worcestershire who also won 20-16 playing away against Surrey. Clwyd’s defeat has seen them drop two places in the table to sixth and be replaced in their former fourth position by Middlesex whose 25-11 win at County Durham has put them on the same sixty-six points as Worcestershire.

Salopian scooped both the ladies ‘A’ and ladies ‘B’ awards with Evonne Taylor taking the former for her 22.77 average and 3-0 win over Norfolk’s Mandy Gray while Sue Lane was the top ‘B’ side player, Sue averaging 19.40 in a 3-1 victory over Ella Tovell (Norfolk). In the men’s games Surrey’s Darryl Pilgrim won 4-0 against Worcestershire’s Kev Mason and averaged 35.79 while for the ‘B’ games it was Norfolk’s Chris Earll who had a top average of 29.47 in his 3-0 win over Salopian’s Dean Rogers.

Breconshire have doubled their lead at the top of Division Three, their huge 27-9 win at Isle of Wight taking their points to seventy-nine while Wirral, who were second lost 19-17 at Shropshire and drop to fourth with sixty-one points the same number as Cumbria whose 22-14 home win over Bedfordshire has seen them move up two places in the table to third. Northumberland take over the number two spot, their 23-13 home win over Gloucestershire giving them a total of sixty-nine points.

Top player in the men’s ‘A’ games was Montgomery and Radnor man John Williams-Jones who had a 30.27 average in a 4-1 win over Pembrokeshire’s Daniel Castle while Pembrokeshire’s Angharad Bessant took the ladies ‘A’ award with her straight 3-0 win over Sharon Shepherd (Montgomery and Radnor). Shropshire’s Rob Pitt had the top ‘B’ side average of 30.67 in a 3-0 win over Wirral’s Harvey McPartland. For the ladies ‘B’ it was Natalie Evans (Breconshire), her 19.27 average and 3-0 win over Judi Angus (Isle of Wight) earning her the accolade.

Not since the 2012-2013 season in the BDO Premier Division when Warwickshire lost their first three fixtures to Yorkshire (23-13), Oxfordshire (19-17) and Cheshire (19-17) have they lost their opening three fixtures since but their recent 20-16 defeat away to Lincolnshire in the UKDA Cosmo Darts Premier Division was their third consecutive loss in what was their third game of the new season. The reversal followed 20-16 and 23-13 defeats to Cornwall and Lancashire leaving them eighth in the league table with forty-five points, thirty-eight short of leaders Lancashire.

The first five games of the ladies ‘B’ match saw the advantage sway one way then the other as Dawn Armstrong gave Lincolnshire the first win when she won 3-1 against Chloe McKivett-Saunders. Kirsty Hinchcliffe (Warwickshire) trailed 2-0 to Hayley Reeson but fought back magnificently to earn a 3-2 win and giving the away team the lead for the first time was lady of the match Nina Bolt who had a straight 3-0 win over Heather Lodge, her 18.11 average earning her the match award. Unfortunately that was to be Warwickshire’s last winner as Lee Bingham beat Kris Meek 3-1 and rounding off a 4-2 win for the home side were Kelly Haverson and Heidi Garrard who in turn won 3-0 against Denise Keyte and Kat Spanswick.

The men’s ‘B’ had a great start as Samuel Whittaker opened up with a 4-1 win over Steve Giddings and doubling Warwickshire’s lead was Scott Hope who won 4-0 against Leighton Bennett. Moving the advantage along to 3-0 was William Naylor who beat Martin Giddings 4-1 before Mark Martin chalked up the away side’s second whitewash when he won 4-0 against Dean Coe. The home team got their first stripe on the board in the fifth when Scott Boryszczuk beat Dave Hill 4-1 but by the midway points the visitors were 5-1 up as their man of the match Noah Rose rounded off the half by handing his opponent Richard Hubbard a 4-0 whitewash with an award winning average of 32.85.

A draw was assured for Warwickshire as early as the seventh game as Adam Hancock got the second half going with his 4-3 win over Michael Machin. Danny Goddard and Shane Passey reduced the arrears for the hosts as they in turn won 4-2 against Carl Green and Mark Carter only to see the result go beyond their reach when in the tenth encounter Martin Tonks won 4-0 against Jon Bywater giving Warwickshire a match winning lead of 7-3. Both of Warwickshire’s last two players Lee Miller and Karl Reynolds opened up 2-0 leads in turn against Darren Phillips and Glenn West only to see the two home players to go on and win Phillips 4-2 and West 4-3 taking the final score to 7-5 in favour of the away side.

For Warwickshire ladies ‘A’ it was a game to quickly forget as they slumped to a 6-0 defeat, their heaviest defeat since losing by the same margin away to Hampshire on the 16th April 2023. The opening three games all finished with a 3-1 result, all in favour of Lincolnshire’s Paula Jacklin, ex Warwickshire long-term player Trina Gulliver and Laura Tye who in turn accounted for Hannah Meek, Donna Pinch and Caroline Pike. Marian Conway won two legs against Heather Draper but it was the latter Lincolnshire player that got the 3-2 verdict. Mandy Smith made it 5-0 for the hosts with her 3-1 win over Lucy Keyte and taking the score to 6-0 was Shelley Bontoft-Gash who won 3-0 against Wendy Adams,

The defeats for the two ladies teams leaves both of them still seeking their first win of the season.

For Warwickshire to get something out of the game nothing less than a 9-3 win was required from the men’s ‘A’ side but after the first four games that was looking very doubtful. However the game did begin brightly as Nigel Heydon won the opener against Glenn West 4-3 with a terrific 160 game shot in the fifth leg plus a 27.35 average. From one up the visitors then found themselves trailing 3-1 as Andy Houghton beat Samuel Price 4-3, Kev Leadenham won 4-0 against Jack Wareing and Shane Lowe beat Steve Hine 4-2. It took a man of the match performance from Kevin Dowling to stop the Lincolnshire charge, Dowling handing out a 4-0 whitewash to James Beeton with winning legs of 14,19,18 and 15 darts to give him a tremendous 31.31 average. By the break it was level pegging as Wayne Mynard added his straight 4-0 win over Thomas Atkinson to Warwickshire’s tally to make it 3-3.

The hosts took the lead once again as the second half got underway Lloyd Pennell wining 4-2 against Matty Washbrooke, however the lead didn’t last long as an in-form Jamie Atkins won 4-2 against Antony Allen with a super 30.98 average and winning legs of 17,11,13 and 19 darts. Atkins was certainly in a top scoring mood as he began his first leg with 2×140, his second leg with 2×180 and his fourth leg with 2×140, that’s some scoring!!. After losing the first two legs to Tom Loveley, Mark McGeeney went on to win 4-2 to restore Warwickshire’s lead and with a similar 4-2 win from Gareth Braham over Gary Blades the men’s ‘A’ side were in an unbeatable position leading 6-4 and a draw the worst they could achieve. A draw however was not going to be as the visitor’s penultimate player Jamie Hughes added his 4-1 win over Nick Fullwell to put the result beyond Lincolnshire’s reach. The final encounter of the weekend went to Lincolnshire, Tom Martin coming back from 2-0 down to Noel Grant and going on to win 4-2 to give a final score of 7-5 to Warwickshire.

The overall result was 20-16 to Lincolnshire leaving Warwickshire eighth in the division and some thirty-eight points short of leaders Lancashire.

In the UKDA National League’s Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division West Midlands, with a home game against Kent were hoping to add to their 19-17 win away to Cheshire in their previous game but alas it was not going to be.

Saturday saw the ladies ‘B’ lose 4-2 going 2-0 down as Rebecca Garrett and Rosie Artiss in turn won 3-2 against Sarah Maybury and Jodie Rowlands. Jacqueline Maiden was West Midlands first winner as she won, once again 3-2, against Violet Wood but it was not enough to avoid defeat as Jess Shilling beat Crysta Wilcox 3-0 and with a 3-1 success for Lisa Dunford over Debbie Davies Kent were 4-1 up. The final game saw the home team gain their second winner as lady of the match Shellbie Simmons won 3-0 against Samantha Venes with a 20.31 average to take the final score to 4-2 for Kent.

Kent were first off the mark in the men’s ‘B’ game, Scott Artiss beating Karl Hughes 4-3, but their lead was short-lived as Ian Stanton won 4-0 against Jack Keutenius and Jack Aldridge, with a man of the match 4-1 win over Lewis Venes and 26.98 average he gave the home side the 2-1 lead. A similar 4-1 win for Kent’s David Heath over Jon Platt levelled the game and with a 4-2 win for Craig Connor against Chris Stanley, the visitors once again took the lead. However by the break it was all-square at 3-3 after Mark Craddock added his 4-3 win over Phill Gibson to West Midlands account.

From a level pegging position Kent stormed into a match winning 7-3 lead as the second half began with four consecutive wins for them, Michael Artiss kicked-off the quartet of wins when he won 4-1 against Adam Teasdale before Jordan Blackwell beat Luke Griffiths 4-2 and Ben Webster assured his side of at least a draw when he won 4-0 against Glen McGrandle. Scott Lackford added the magical seventh win when he beat Ryan O’Connor 4-3 taking the running total to 7-3. Kieran O’Mahoney reduced the arrears slightly for the hosts with his 4-0 success over Robbie Turner but the final score was 8-4 to Kent when anchor man Trevor Thompson beat Ryan Locker 4-2.

The ladies ‘A’ found themselves trailing 3-0 after two opening 3-1 wins from Emma Martin and Kelly Westlake against Katherine Jenkins and Tara Simmons-Fullwood followed by a 3-0 win for Julie Handley over Claire Hobbs. Gemma Barrett’s 3-1 win over Jackie Homan momentarily reduced the arrears before Nette Ralph’s 3-1 win against Julie Emery gave Kent the win with a 4-1 lead. For a second successive day the West Midlands ladies team found their lady of the match in the final game and Sunday’s top player was Jacqueline Maiden whose 16.63 average and 3-1 win over Kayley Oliver took the final score to 4-2 in Kent’s favour.

The highlight of the weekend was the men’s ‘A’ team who stormed into an unassailable 6-0 lead as Ash Khayat got the proceedings underway with his 4-3 win over Peter Mitchell. Doubling West Midlands lead was Scott Baker who had a 4-1 win against Keith Montgomery before man of the match Owen Maiden accounted for Mike Brett with a 4-2 result and 28.97 average. Richard Platt took the score along to 4-0 when he beat Steve Stacey 4-1 and although Dean Simmons-Fullwood was taken to a deciding leg by Craig Connor he won it and the game 4-3. Completing a perfect first half was Rob Thompson who added his 4-1 win against Richard Elms to put a win beyond Kent’s reach. However despite the commanding lead West Midland’s men still required a further five winners from the last six games for an overall victory for the weekend.

As the second session got underway Kent chalked up their first winner as Carl Wilson won 4-2 against Ben Johnson and although Gavin Baker had a narrow 4-3 win against David Saint to win the ‘A’ game as West Midlands were now leading 7-1, Nigel Payne’s 4-0 win over Kevin Bambrick put the overall win out of reach for the Midlanders, but there was still an outside chance of a draw!! In the very next game Peter Allen put an end to that thought as he beat Michael Baker 4-2 giving Kent an overall 19-15 lead. Darren Williams won his game with Dean Owen 4-1 and with the final game of the weekend going to Kent as Paul Dawkins beat Ian Jones 4-2 the result was an 8-4 win for West Midlands men’s ‘A’ but an overall 20-16 victory for Kent.

Due to having their home fixture with Berkshire rearranged for a couple of weeks after the scheduled date Black Country lost their top spot in the UKDA National League’s L-Style Division One table and were eager to get a win to return to the top of the promotional table.

Lacey Hughes gave the hosts the ideal start as she won 3-2 against Chris Ruffell only to see Berkshire’s Ally Judge win 3-0 against Natalie Hulson and Tania Burdett beat Doreen Hunt 3-1 to go 2-1 up. A 3-0 win for Abbey Hunt over Nipaporn Smith levelled the game but it was the visitors who forged ahead again in the fifth when Rebecca Ellis accounted for Angie Carroll with a close 3-2 win. With the outcome of the game now dependant on the final game it took a lady of the match performance from Grace Angell to earn a 3-3 draw as she beat Vanessa O’Connell 3-0 with an 18.56 average.

The men’s ‘B’ suffered an early setback as Berkshire’s Ashley Upson beat Al Smith 3-0 but with two similar 3-0 wins for Mark Jones and Liam Kelly over respective opponents Josh Newton and John Chalkley the home side had turned the game around and were leading 2-1. Alan Hickinbottom made it 3-1 when he won the deciding leg against Dean Lockyer and although with a 3-2 win over John Green by Richard Stride to slightly reduce the arrears the Black Country were 4-2 up at the break after man of the match Rob Smith added his 3-1 win over Doug Harwood to their account, Rob having a superb 30.22 average.

The second half continued where the first had left off with Black Country’s Carl Sparrow winning 3-2 against James Shaw and Mark Rollinson confirming at least a share of the spoils when he beat Anthony Dean 3-0. Alex Ball was Berkshire’s third winner, a 3-0 success over Connor Whitehouse before Gareth Johnston, with a 3-2 win against Callum Dorward, chalked up the magical seventh win for the hosts their 7-3 lead now a winning lead. Taking the final score along to 9-3 to Black Country was Cayden Smith, who won 3-0 against Karl Williams and Sam Bissell who beat Ryan Newton 3-2.

What better way to start the ladies ‘A’ game than with a lady of the match performance and it was supplied by Black Country’s Tammy Chance whose straight 3-0 win over Sophie Self earned her the award for her 22.10 average. After the opening win the home side saw their lead cancelled out twice before reaching the final game as Kirsty Chubb won the second encounter against Sarah-Jane Parker 3-0, Maxine Prosser restored the home team’s lead with a 3-1 win over Hayley Watts, but once again it was erased as Kelly Ellis beat Amy-Leigh Tolley 3-1. For a third time Black Country took the lead, this time thanks to a 3-1 win from Chez Allcock against Debbie Shadwell but then the sequence was broken and the home team, with a 3-2 win by Heather Wright over Amy Smith won the tie 4-2.

The home team’s ‘A’ side had a confident start going 4-0 up as Trev Brennan won 4-3 against Archie Self, Shane Price beat Paul Snowsill 4-2 then Martin Price had a straight 4-0 win over Andy Sturton before man of the match Dan Nicholls beat Paul Holloway 4-2 with a 28.54 average. The last two games of the first half both went to Berkshire as James Wiggins won 4-3 against George Willetts and Paul Self beat Jamie Barrowman 4-0 to put the score at the midway point at 4-2 to Black Country.

Berkshire’s man of the match Paul Hogan (30.36) began the second half with a 4-0 win over Cayden Smith only to see the hosts chalk up three further victories to secure the win for the men’s ‘A’ team, Dan Homer winning 4-2 against Jordan Rawlings, Jamie Rollinson having a 4-1 success against Simon Purvey and Tom Bissell adding his 4-1 win against Nathan Money to the tally. Joe Lacey and Stephen Wood made the final score a little more respectable for Berkshire as in turn they won 4-0 against Rich Bowen and 4-2 against Paul Wells to give a final 7-5 scoreline to Black Country.

The overall 23-13 win for Black Country has seen them romp back up to the top of the table with a total of 76 points, six more than their nearest rivals Gwent.

After winning promotion from the UKDA National League’s Division Three last season Salopian have begun their new campaign in division two with two opening wins which they were hoping to add to in their third fixture a home tie with Norfolk. Prior to the game Salopian were top of the table on forty-seven points with their opponents lying sixth with thirty-eight points.

Debutant  Chloe Ames gave Salopian the first win in the ladies ‘B’ game when she won 3-0 against Sue Brittain only to see Teresa Felgate level for Norfolk when she won with a close 3-2 result over Anna Peatroy. A lady of the performance from team captain Sue Lane restored the hosts lead, Sue beating Ella Tovell 3-1 with a 19.40 average but once again the game was levelled as Elaine Blackett beat Molly Atter 3-1 and with a similar 3-1 win for Nicole Ellard over Claire Boyle the visitors were within an ace of victory. The final score finished all-square at three each when Hayley McGuinness won 3-1 against Claire Broom.

The men’s ‘B’ had a solid start winning all of the opening three games. Steven Ritchie kicked-off the trio of wins when he beat James Preston 3-0 and Glyn Thomas made it 2-0 when he won 3-1 against Alfie Thompson before man of the match Shaun Pryce accounted for Ricky Mileham with a similar 3-1 scoreline plus a 26.16 average. Game number four saw James Goldsmith chalk up Norfolk’s first win as he beat Rowan Price 3-0 Chris Earll then reducing the arrears even further with his win over Dean Rogers, again the margin was 3-0. However by the midway point Salopian had opened up a 4-2 advantage as another player making his debut Rob Trumper rounded off the half with a 3-1 success against Dale Paul.

Pete Watson pulled another one back for the visitors when in the opening game of the second half he won 3-2 against Ian Evans before Salopian fielded their last five players with all of their Christian names beginning with “J”. Jay Adams took the score along to 5-3 with his 3-1 win over Craig Moore before Norfolk recorded two in a row 3-0 wins thanks to their Lewis Winter and Tony Chapman who in turn won against Jason Davies and James Jenkins to level the score at five each. Another debutant Jakob Perrins had a 3-2 win over Andy Derrick to restore the homes sides lead and with a final 3-0 win for James Mansell over Craig Bennett Salopian had won 7-5, the ‘B’ sides first win of the season.

The ladies ‘A’ could not have wished for a better start as Evonne Taylor not only won 3-0 against Mandy Gray but at the same time clinched the lady of the match award for her 22.77 average. As if encouraged by Evonne’s win Tracey Dean beat Roz Bulmer 3-2 and taking the score to 3-0 was Emma Tapp who won 3-0 against Lynsey Childs, this being Emma’s first game for Salopian. Gemma Reynolds reduced the arrears slightly when she won 3-1 against Rachael Mooney but the result was taken to 5-1 when Sarah Roberts added her 3-1 win over Sandra Page and Kate Titley accounted for Julia Virgoe with a 3-2 result, Kate another player on the oche for the first time for the hosts. The convincing 5-1 result was the ladies ‘A’ first win of the campaign.

Although James Cole gave Norfolk the opening lead when he won 4-2 against Ben Bevan that was to be the away side’s only winner of the first half as the home team then rattled off four consecutive 4-1wins thanks to Terry Nash, Gary Crowther, Ash Hilditch and Jamie Kynaston who in turn defeated Vinny Mudd, Craig Venman, Evan Wilson and Richard Stoddart, Kynaston’s win securing an overall victory for the hosts as they then held a commanding 19-10 lead. To end the half and take Salopian men’s ‘A’ lead to 5-1 was Paul Rowley who won 4-3 against Kevin Rudling.

A draw was assured in the seventh when Jon Mansell beat Dave Olley 4-0. Norfolk’s second winner came in the shape of Robbie Ellis-Brown who had a 4-0 win over Mark Crutchley but with a similar 4-0 win for Eddie Price over Olly King the Salopian men’s ‘A’ had won the tie being 7-2 up. The win for Eddie Price earned him the team’s match award as he registered a 28.63 average. The last three games all ended with a 4-2 result, Darren Youngs winning against John Roberts for the visitor’s third win then Ben Morgan wining for the home side as he accounted for David Wilson. The final game went to Norfolk’s Gary Knott who won against a somewhat unlucky Matt Elsey who scored back-to-back maximums in an eleven darts leg and averaged 26.40, Knott Norfolk’s man of the match with a 28.05 average.

Its now three wins in as many games for Salopian and they are riding high at the top of the promotional table with seventy-three points six to the good on second placed Wiltshire. Who knows, will it be three promotions in three seasons for Salopian, it could well be!!

With one win and one defeat from their opening two games in division three of the UKDA National League, Shropshire were hoping a home tie against Wirral would provide them with their second victory but it was never going to be an easy game as prior to the fixture Shropshire were seventh in the division with thirty-three points and their guests second with forty-four points.

Despite the difference in position and points the ladies ‘B’ began with a 3-0 win from Trish Ball who defeated Nat Farragher. However the cheers were short-lived for the home crowd as Kelly McGuinness squared the game with a close 3-2 win over Dean Sheldon and with a further 3-0 success for Pam Courts over Gemma Smith followed by another close 3-2 win for Emma Evans against Kelly Millington, Wirral were 3-1 up and within an ace of victory. Jo Meachin kept Shropshire in the game when she handed Tina Nolan a 3-0 defeat and with the hosts keeping their best till last Kirstie Millingotn not only beat Becky Parkes 3-0 and earned a 3-3 draw for her team mates but at the same time earned herself the team’s match award for her 15.03 top average.

It all began well for the men’s ‘B’ as Andy Vellender gave them the ideal start with his straight 3-0 win over Dave Martindale, Anthony Whitehouse doubling the lead when he emulated Vellenders 3-0 win when he beat Carl Coulls. Chris Waddington momentarily reduced the arrears for Wirral when he won 3-1 against Chris Evans only to see the home side add another two wins to their tally when Andre Knox beat Chris Sharp 3-1 and Dave Bayton won 3-2 against Ste Savage. The score at the midway point as 4-2 to the home side after Paul Hignett ended the half with Wirral’s second win, a 3-2 result over Jon Blakemore.

Shropshire’s lead was extended to 5-2 as the second half got underway, Paul Harrison winning 3-1 against Carl Robinson and assuring the hosts of at least a share of the points was their man of the match Rob Pitt whose 3-0 win over Harvey McPartland gave him a super 30.67 average. Alas a share of the points was what Shropshire actually got as the final four games all went to Wirral, Connor Moreland won 3-1 against Brett Cooper, Jamie Green beat Kevin Harris 3-2, Jack McCarron won 3-0 against Brian Hickman and securing a 6-6 draw for the visitors was anchor-man Lewis Gilmartin with his 3-0 success over Jamie Webb.

Wirral got the better start to the ladies ‘A’ game as their Sandra James won 3-2 against Marie Riggs but the lead was quickly cancelled out as Jenna-Louise Ball handed out a 3-0 whitewash to Katie Woodcock to win not only her game but also the lady of the match award for her 18.79 average. For the first time in the game Shropshire then went ahead as Nicola Ball won 3-1 against Joanne Toye, but that was to be Shropshire’s last winner as Steph Mellor and Kim Holden in turn won 3-0 against Sarah Williams and Becky Harris and with a final 3-1 win for Julie Baines against Michele Pritchard, Wirral won the tie 4-2.

The men’s ‘A’ team had a tremendous first half as with a 4-0 result Simon Mountford won the first encounter against Karl Davies and Josh Pickett made it 2-0 with his 4-2 success over Darren Bradley. Mike Williamson put Wirral’s first stripe on the board in the third beating Chris Fox 4-0 but that was to be the visitors only win of the half as Reece Cook-Lucas and Rob Pierce beat respective opponents Sam Bratherton and Andy Cummins 4-3 and with a 4-0 win for Paul Penfold against Steve Maish the home team had opened up a commanding 5-1 lead.

It was not such a good start to the second session as the away side rattled off three consecutive wins, Terry Clancy beating Clark Cook 4-0, Mark Patmore winning 4-2 against Andrew Jervis and with a similar 4-2 win for Kieran Nolan over Adam Thackray Shropshire had had their lead reduced to 5-4. What better way to stop the Wirral onslaught than a man of the match performance provided by Richard Parker, Parker won his game against Steve McNally 4-1 and in the process recorded an average of 26.22. With a draw now the worst possible scenario Phil Clarke guaranteed the win with a 4-0 success over Alex Di Stefano and with Sam Aitken wining the final game of the weekend 4-3 against Lewis Gilmartin the result was an 8-4 win for the men’s ‘A’ and an overall 19-17 victory for Shropshire.

Despite the win Shropshire remain seventh in the promotional table but now with fifty-five points are only six short of third placed Cumbria.

A fantastic field of 74 men and 16 women assembled at the Somercotes Snooker Club, Leabrooks Road, Derbyshire for the 6th Ripley Elite Darts Singles League’s Grand Prix. Some fantastic players were in attendance from all over the Midlands together with a very strong Yorkshire contingent. However there were some big names that fell by the wayside as early as the preliminary round, such names as Danny Lauby who recently won the Warwickshire Men’s Super League Singles Knockout with a final 5-4 win over Chris Wickenden and Colin Osborne, both players losing 5-2 to respective opponents Tom Loveley and Paul Lewis.

In spite of the array of talent from around the country it was REDSL’s very own Trevor Burkhill and Rose Mort who not only made their way to the respective men’s and ladies final but actually went on to win the titles. Burkhill collected the winner’s £500 first prize with a fantastic all round performance beating Daz Webster 5-4, Eddie Lovely 5-3, Brian Dawson 5-1, Lloyd Pennell 5-3 and Martyn Turner 6-2 before winning the final against Chris Bird 7-4 in what was a very tough draw seeing him defeat some elite players along the way.

As champions Rose Mort collected the top prize of £250 with runner-up Sammie Marshall receiving £60. As losing semi-finalists there was £25 each for Linda Porter and Marie Leahy.
