A massive 31-5 home win over Kent has seen Yorkshire take over pole position in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League. With 11-1 and 10-2 wins for the respective men’s ‘A’ and B’ sides plus 4-2 and 6-0 for the ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams Yorkshire have taken their points tally to 149 and have a lead of four over previous leaders Lancashire who had a close 19-17 win away to Leicestershire. As a result of their big defeat Kent drop two places in the divisional table to bottom with 84 points, four fewer than the team just above them Cheshire and five short of Glamorgan and safety. Although Lincolnshire narrowly lost out to Lancashire they did play what was their outstanding rearranged number one fixture away to Cheshire which they won 25-11 to take them up into third place in the table on 136 points. Hampshire were previously second but dropped two places to fourth after their 22-14 defeat at Staffordshire. Both Essex and Warwickshire won their respective ties against Cornwall (20-16) and Glamorgan (24-12) but they both dropped one place in the table, Essex to fifth with 128 points and Warwickshire sixth having one point fewer 127.

Top player in the game six fixtures was Warwickshire’s Jamie Hughes who in his game against Glamorgan’s Keirion Carter had a straight 4-0 win chalked up winning legs of 12,13,18 and 14 darts to give him a fantastib 35.16 average.

In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division the top two teams hold on to their positions, Dorset adding a 24-12 home win over Berkshire to their account to take their points to 136 while second placed Cleveland were held to an 18-18 draw away to Cambridgeshire to leave them nine points short of the leaders. As a result of their defeat Berkshire drop from third to fifth in the division trailing the leaders by some twenty-one points and replacing at number three is Hertfordshire, their 24-12 home success over Gwynedd taking them up to 125 points, eleven off the top but only to behind Cleveland.

It’s as you were for the top three teams in Division One as leaders Derbyshire accounted for their hosts West Midlands with a 20-16 scoreline giving them a total of 147 points five more than second placed Suffolk who had a 22-14 success playing away against Merseyside and making up the top three is Buckinghamshire whose 21-15 win at Leicestershire leaves them twenty-three fewer than Derbyshire with 124 points.

The big question in Division Two is will anyone catch Black Country who after gaining promotion from the third division last season are riding high at the top of the table with 146 points after adding their latest 22-14 win away to Nottinghamshire. West of England have lost their second place and drop to fourth after suffering a somewhat surprising 19-17 defeat away to Clwyd who prior to the fixture were, with 92 points just two places off the foot of the table and some eleven points behind their visitors. Taking over in second place is Tyne and Wear who had a 23-13 home win over Norfolk which sees them move up one place in the table while their opponents drop two places to next to bottom with 108 points. Wiltshire made the biggest leap in the division their 24-12 home win against bottom of the division Gloucestershire seeing them go from sixth to third, their 124 points leaving them just four short of Tyne and Wear but 22 fewer than Black Country.

It’s all change at the top of Division Three as former leaders Northamptonshire were held to an 18-18 draw at Pembrokeshire and as a result drop to second place with 134 points, only two short of new leaders Middlesex but in addition to their two points lead Middlesex also have a game in hand. The latest round of fixtures saw Middlesex play a home tie with third in the division Shropshire, the result was a close 19-17 win for the home side and although Shropshire lost they hold on to third place, however prior to the game they were just four points off the top of the division, they are now eight points behind their hosts and have played one game more than them.

After a narrow 19-17 defeat away to London in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League Warwickshire were keen to get back into winning ways and their sixth fixture of the campaign, a home tie against Glamorgan was the ideal opportunity to do that as their visitors were lying in a next to bottom of the table position on 77 points while Warwickshire were fifth on 100 points.

The ladies ‘B’ game saw the away team go one up when Jen Taylor beat Courtney Hine 3-1 but their lead was short-lived and cancelled out in style as lady of the match Hannah Meek won 3-0 against Joanne Pugh in 23,23 and 25 darts for an award winning 21.17 average. From there on in it was all Warwickshire as Melanie Jones beat Donna Buckley 3-0, Nina Bolt and Chloe McKivett won 3-2 in turn against Tammy Thomas and Paula Clemett and sealing a great 5-2 win was Angela Jones with her straight 3-0 win over Sarah Teesdale.

The opening four games of the men’s ‘B’ match saw the results all go in favour of the first thrower with Glamorgan twice taking the lead through Gavin Sterio and Richard Shanklyn who in turn defeated Will Naylor 4-3 and Lee Miller 4-0. Cancelling out the visitors leads were first Jenson Walker with his 4-3 win over Colin Powell and then Mark Carter who won 4-1 with winning legs of 20,12,18 and18 darts against Daniel Beynon to earn him the man of the match award for his 28.66 average.

The sequence was broken in the fifth when Mark Strong won 4-2 against Gareth Hurton to put Warwickshire ahead for the first time in the match but by the halfway stage it was all square as Adrian Jones won 4-3 against Ian Shaw .

Pete Hughes looked al set to restore Warwickshire’s lead as the second half got underway checking out on 150 and 88 to go 2-0 up against Richie Edwards but despite a 100 game shot in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead it was Edwards who won the last two legs and the tie 4-3. Mark Martin restored parity in the eighth beating Ralph Barnett 4-2 but it was the visitors who went ahead again in the ninth when Ashley Pascoe won 4-3 against Karl Reynolds and with a similar 4-3 win for Adam Serpell over Noah Rose in the tenth Glamorgan were 6-4 up and within an ace of victory.

Saving the day and earning a draw for Warwickshire were Sam Price and Nigel Heydon, Price winning the penultimate encounter against Shaun Dibbs 4-3 after he had gone 2-0 up and then trailed 3-2 and Heydon having a straight 4-0 win over Graham Harrison to put the final score at 6-6.

The ladies ‘A’ didn’t have the best of starts as Eve Watson and Rhian O’Sullivan chalked up 3-0 wins over Marian Conway and Sue Gulliver to give the away side a 2-0 lead. Natalie Gilbert stopped the Glamorgan charge with her 3-0 win over Michelle Jones, Natalie winning her game in 20,20 and 21 darts to give her a great award winning average of 24.64.

The game was levelled in the fourth when Caroline Pike beat Sue Hall, once again and for the fourth consecutive game 3-0 before the hosts went ahead for the first time in the fifth when Tammy Montgomery won 3-1 against Claire Crocombe to leave the result hinging on the final game between Donna Pinch (Warwickshire) and Jen Taylor. The game went the full five legs distance with Jen Taylor opening up leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Donna Pinch won the last two legs to win 3-2 and give her team mates a 4-2 victory.

The men’s ‘A’, in similar fashion to their other three teams lost the opening game as Hywel Manuel won 4-1 against Wayne Mynard and the away team looked all set to make it 2-0 as Tim Jones opened up 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 leads over Steve Hine but it was Hine who won the last two legs, both in eighteen darts for a 4-3 win. Mike Huntley (Glamorgan) won the first leg against Gareth Braham however Braham stuck to his task and ran out the 4-1 winner to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Taking the score along to 3-1 was Jamie Hughes who was in outstanding form as he beat Keirion Carter in straight legs winning the first in 12 darts with a 153 outshot and then adding winning legs of 13,18 and 14 darts for a sensational 35.16 average which of course at the end of the day won him the man of the match award.

Game five saw Tom Martin, like Hughes, also win 4-0 in his tie with Neil Lewis and with a 4-1 success for Jack Wareing over Dan Thompson the hosts were 5-1 up at the break.

As the second half began Glamorgan reduced the arrears when their Sean Fisher won 4-0 against Dave Hill and with a further 4-2 win for Mark Challenger over Ian McFarlane the visitors had reduced the arrears to 5-3. Kevin Dowling got Warwickshire back into winning ways beating Neil Parry 4-0 to ensure at the worst a share of the spoils, but that was never going to be enough as Jamie Atkins 4-1 win over Dale Hughes chalked up the magical seventh stripe on the board and a guaranteed win for the men’s ‘A’. Matty Washbrooke made it 8-3 with a 4-1 win against Dai Caller and the final score was taken to 9-3 when Noel Grant beat Wayne Davies 4-1.

The overall 24-12 win for Warwickshire was not enough to see hold on to fifth position as with 127 points they were one behind fifth placed Essex and were left twenty-two short of new leaders Yorkshire.

West Midlands have been residing close to the bottom of the table in the L-Style Division One of the UKDA National League for most of the season so far and what was actually their fifth game, (as the opener against Worcestershire was postponed), was a tough home tie against divisional leaders Derbyshire.

The weekend began with a 4-2 defeat for the ladies ‘B’ despite the opening game being won by their Shellbie Simmons who beat Jenny McCormick 3-2 and in the process took the match award for her 15.52 average. Sammie Marshall then won 3-1 against Kelly Doleman and Emily Jones beat Katherine Jenkins 3-2 to give Derbyshire a 3-2 lead. Tara Simmons-Fullwood momentarily levelled the score when she won 3-1 against Nic Fletcher but in the final two games Louise Rawson and Claire Wheeler in turn won 3-0 against Debbie Davies and Jacqueline Simmons to give Derbyshire the 4-2 result.

The men’s ‘B’ found themselves trailing 3-0 after the opening three games as Gary Fenn won 3-1 against Ben Johnson then Gavin Ratcliffe and Domonic Harrison beat respective opponents Kieran O’Mahoney and Neil Pointon 3-2.

A 3-2 win over Dave Rogers by Glen McGrandle stopped the rot for the Midlands side and with further wins from Ian Stanton and John Morris who accounted for Ben Holmes (3-1) and Michael Ryall (3-2), the score was level at 3-3 by the midway point.

Derbyshire went ahead again as the second half began with Robert Smith winning 3-0 against Dean Simmons-Fullwood but only to see the home side draw level once again as Rob Thompson beat Mark Barlow 3-2 and then for the first time in the game West Midlands took the lead as Paul Price won 3-2 against Mark Thompson to put the hosts 5-4 up. The lead didn’t last long as Will North and Pete Hadfield in turn won 3-2 against Jay Woodhouse and Mark Maiden to leave the outcome resting on the final game of the day. The result was a 6-6 draw as West Midlands man of the match Mark Craddock (25.05) beat Jamie Waterfield 3-0.

It was a game to forget for the ladies ‘A’ as Derbyshire stormed tp a 5-0 lead thanks to wins from Rebecca Hoyland, Jax Sweet, Jo Oldershaw, Rose Mort and Steph Allerton who in turn accounted for Claire Hobbs (3-0), Sarah Maybury (3-0), Gemma Barrett (3-0), Jacqueline Maiden (3-1) and Jodie Rowlands (3-1).

The home team’s sole winner Kat McLean won the final game against Rach Bird 3-0 and collected the match award for her 16.34 average.

The men’s ‘A’ had a fine first half as Ian Jones kicked it off with a 4-2 win over Michael Haynes and although a 4-0 win over Gavin Baker by Nigel Daniels levelled the score the home team then went 3-1 up with a 4-0 win from Michael Baker over Paul Redfern and a 4-3 success by Richard Platt against Sean Lambert. Henry Coates reduced the arrears to 3-2 when he won 4-1 against Adam Johnson but a 4-2 lead was achieved by the West Midlands at the end of the first half when Ryan O’Connor won 4-3 against Paul Williams.

The hosts went further ahead as the second half began, man of the match Shaun Carroll beating Ian Allcock 4-0 with a superb 32.32 average to take the score to 5-2. Dan Ford kept the divisional leaders in the game with a 4-2 win over Ash Khayat but Kevin Bambrick assured the Midlands men’s ‘A’ team of at least a draw when he won 4-2 against Paul Bettney. A 4-3 win from Pete Hadfield over Owen Maiden kept alive the chance of a draw for Derbyshire but a win from Darren Williams against Josh Gould eliminated that chance as West Midlands were then in an unassailable 7-4 lead.

The final game of the weekend went to Derbyshire’s Lee Stanley, a 4-3 win over Jon Platt to take the score for the men’s ‘A’ to 7-5 to West Midlands but the overall result was 20-16 to Derbyshire.

West Midlands also played their rearranged fixture against Worcestershire which was originally scheduled to be the opening game of the season.

In this bottom of the division clash Saturday’s games both went in favour of the away side Worcestershire as their ladies won 4-2 and the men 7-5. After winning promotion last season, Black Country are enjoying a great start to their season in division two, consolidating their top of the table position after their most recent fixture away to Nottinghamshire.

After losing the first of the ladies ‘B’ games when Jenny White won 3-0 against Sarah Tromans, Black Country moved up a gear and with a 3-2 win from Stella Sims against Maggie Bamford followed by a 3-1 success for Grace Angell over Julie Wilson, Grace taking the match award for her 17.56 average. A further 3-1 win from Amy-Leigh Tolley against Ronnie Johnson extended Black Country’s lead to 3-1 before Nicola Wing pulled one back for Nottinghamshire when she beat Doreen Hunt 3-1. The final score finished all square at 3-3 when Jan Schofield won her game against Lacey Hughes 3-2.

The men’s ‘B’ found themselves trailing 3-1 when Mat Tedstone lost the opener 3-1 to Steve Johnson and Cayden Smith went down 3-0 to Aaron Gormley and although Mark Rollinson (Black Country) won the third 3-0 against Rob Flinders, a similar 3-0 result for Paul Harvey over Gavin Smith made it 3-1 to the home team. Despite this by the halfway mark it was level pegging as Jamie Barrowman won 3-1 against Richard Bloomfield and Shaun Hill beat Josh Hamilton 3-2.

The second half began well as Black Country took three in a row thanks to Ali Hickinbottom and Martyn Harper winning 3-0 against Jack Kerr and Paul Green and Jamie Rollinson winning 3-1 against Wes Deane to open up a 6-3 lead for the away team.

Nottinghamshire then fought hard in an effort to earn a draw as their Chris Scott won 3-0 against Luke Jones and Jay Foreman beat Rich Bowen 3-2 to put the onus on the last two players of the day. Up to the oche stepped James Hewitt for Nottinghamshire and for Black Country Connor Whitehouse. The visitors could not have wished for a better anchor man as Whitehouse romped to a 3-1 win and in the process earned himself not only the man of the match award for his 26.61 average but also the 7-5 victory for his team mates.

Sunday got off to a good start as the ladies ‘A’ roared to an unassailable 4-0 lead and setting them on their way was Heather Wright who beat Rebecca Collins 3-1, then came three consecutive wins, first lady of the match Chez Allcock (19.71) then Angie Carroll and Tammy Chance who in turn defeated Julie Pitchford, Helen Harvey and Kaylea Riley. The last two games both went to Nottinghamshire as Sue Esswood won 3-1 against Shannon Hall and Sarah Brent beat Maxine Prosser 3-0 to see Black Country win the game 4-2.

Black Country were 4-2 up at the midway point of the men’s ‘A’ game as Rob Smith won the opener against Pete McConville 4-3 and Paul Wells doubled the advantage with his 4-1 win over Steve Stanbridge. A 4-3 win for Paul Harvey against Dan Homer saw the hosts chalk up their first winner before Graham Hall restored Black Country’s two games buffer with his straight 4-0 win over Connor Beasley. 4-0 was the margin by which Chris Scott (Nottinghamshire) beat Stephen Jones but with a 4-2 win for Tom Bissell against Micky Stocks the 4-2 lead was achieved by the visiting team.

The away side’s lead was extended to 5-2 as the second session got underway, Dan Nicholls accounting for Chris Cooper with a 4-3 result. Charlie Stocks pulled one back for the home side as he won 4-2 against Reece Colley but a share of the points was achieved in the ninth when Trevor Brennon won 4-3 against Darren Layden. Keeping Nottinghamshire in the game was Tom Allies with a 4-0 success over Gaz Johnson but it was all in vane as the win was attained for the Black Country in the penultimate game when Alex Howells beat Jason Holmes 4-1. Saving the best till last the away side produced their man of the match in the shape of Shane Price who with a 29.58 average and a 4-2 result over Mark Wilson took the final score to 8-4 in Black Country’s favour.

The overall 22-14 win for Black Country keeps them top of division two with a total of 146 points, a lead of eighteen over their nearest rivals Tyne and Wear.

Shropshire’s sixth fixture of the season in Division Three of the UKDA National League was a tough away game against Middlesex. Prior to the fixture Middlesex were second in the promotional table on 114 points from only four games with Shropshire third on 111 points but from five games.

Sara Jones was first on for the ladies ‘B’ and she put Shropshire one up when she beat Vanessa Keen 3-1 only to see Michele Copas beat Ann Cooper 3-0 to level the game. Game number three saw the home side take the lead when Marlene Pope beat Joanne Meachin 3-1then for a second time parity was restored as Shropshire’s Jayne Downey accounted for Jackie Walford with a 3-1 result. Once again it was Middlesex who took the lead as their Vickie Kiely won 3-0 against Deana Sheldon to leave the result hinging on the last two players Jenny Sallans (Middlesex) and Michele Pritchard. Michele Pritchard pulled out all the stops winning not only her game with Jenny Sallans 3-1 but also winning the lady of the match award for her 15.10 average and at the same time earning a 3-3 draw for her team mates.

The men’s ‘B’ lost the opener when Steve Goddard won 3-1 against Rushpal Bhogal but the hosts lead was short lived as Shropshire won four in a row thanks to Stuart Kendrick, Steve Lynch, Luke Wildman and Josh Pickett who in turn won playing against Luke Nelson (3-1), Adam Finch (3-0), Pat Gleghorn (3-2) and Chris Grannell (3-1). Pickett’s win together with his 27.78 average earning the team’s match award. At the halfway stage the score was 4-2 in favour of Shropshire after Frankie Collopy (Middlesex) won the last game of the half against Phil Mayo 3-0

Taking the score along to 5-2 was Shropshire’s Martin Price as he added his 3-1 win over Dan Wheatley to their account. George Rich momentarily reduced the arrears for the hosts as he beat Rob Pierce 3-0 but the away side then with three successive 3-1 wins romped to a winning 8-3 lead with wins from Dave Bayton, Chris Evans and Paul Harrison who in turn defeated Terry Andrews, Terry Ough and Brian Green.

The last game of the day went to the home team as Scott Robertson won 3-1 against Chris Hill to give a final score of 8-4 to Shropshire and an 11-7 lead to take into Sunday’s games.

Middlesex won the first of the ladies ‘A’ games when Margaret Sutton won 3-0 against Jenna-Louise Ball but the away side were quick to respond as their lady of the match Kelly Haverson beat Leanne Palmer 3-2 with a 17.24 average and Annmarie Williams gave them the lead for the first time as she accounted for Lisa Brosnan with a 3-2 scoreline.

Unfortunately from leading 2-1 Shropshire then lost 4-2 as Louse Grannell beat Marie Riggs 3-0, Sindy Stiles won 3-1 against Dianne Newton and securing the win for the hosts was Leah Nelson with her 3-0 win over Sophie Ward.

It was not a good opening half for the men’s ‘A’ as man of the match Richard Parker was their sole winner in the first six encounters. After Steve Dettmer beat Andy Jervis 4-1 to put Middlesex 1-0 up Parker then won 4-3 against Matty Finch with a 26.20 average. The next four games of the half went to the home team as John Scott won 4-1 against Sam Aitkens, James Betts beat John Simms 4-2, Joshua Burksfield beat Shane Passey 4-0 and Tony Andrew won 4-1 against Reece Cook Lucas.

The second half was better but not much better and certainly not good enough to win any points as Ian Bartlett took Middlesex to within an ace of victory when he won the first of the second half games against Chris Fox 4-3. Kevin Harris kept faint hopes of a draw alive when he won 4-3 against Jason Neville and those hopes were raised when Phil Clarke reduced the deficit even further to 6-3 when he won 4-2 against Chris Everley, but it only managed to delay the inevitable as in the tenth encounter Allen Bond chalked up the magical seventh win for the hosts when he beat Dan Downey 4-2.

Jamie Webb added his 4-3 win over Steve Rose to Shropshire’s tally but the final score was 8-4 to Middlesex after Tom Dallender won the last game against Simon Pritchard 4-1.

The overall score for the weekend saw Shropshire narrowly lose out 19-17 but they managed to hold on to their third place with 128 points, eight short of the hosts who take over in pole position with a game in hand on Shropshire and second placed Northumberland who were held to an 18-18 draw at Pembrokeshire giving them a total of 134 points

Salopian began the day of their fifth Division Three fixture in the UKDA National League fourth in the table with 102 points, one point more and one place above their hosts Breconshire but with the added bonus of a game in hand, however that was not how it finished.

For the ladies ‘B’ it was a bit of a disaster as they fell to a 5-1 defeat with only opener Sue Lane putting up any resistance to the Breconshire charge. Sue Lane beat Lynne Layton 3-2 and her 12.88 average plus the fact she was the solitary winner saw he collect the lady of the match award.

After Sue’s win Helen Kerry won 3-2 against Karen Weston, Sharon Hill beat Racheal Williams 3-0, Louisa Fox had a 3-0 success over Hayley McGuinness, Carol Bufton was a 3-1 winner in her tie with Paula Davies and rounding off the 5-1 win was Helen Bitten who won 3-0 against Helen Walmsley.

With the ladies going down 5-1 it was imperative that the men’s ‘B’ had a good start and this they did through Ben Bevan, Jamie Kynaston and Eddie Price who in turn won against Geraint Goode (3-2), John Brandon (3-2) and Jordan Salmon (3-2). Owen Davies gave Breconshire their first stripe as he accounted for Adrian Logsdail with a 3-1 result, however Gary Crowther was quick to restore Salopian’s three games buffer beating Chris Carey 3-0 and clinching the match award for his 24.64 average but by the break the score stood at 4-2 in the visitors favour after Rob Price (Breconshire) won 3-2 against Nigel Neale.

Once again it was Salopian who had the better start to the half as the second spell got underway. Martin Riggs won 3-2 against Darren Evans and Robert Paine won 3-1 against Hywel James to give the away team an unbeatable 6-2 lead and requiring just one more win for victory. Salopian’s cheers were delayed as Jason Launchbury won 3-2 against Lee Evans but a 3-1 success for Darren Lane over Andrew Kerry confirmed the Salopian men’s ‘B’ team were winners.

The last two games both went to Breconshire as Chris Austin-Hill just got the better of Mark Jones with a 3-2 result and Lee Randall won 3-1 against Paul Ashworth to take the final score to 7-5 to Salopian.

Breconshire’s ladies ’A’ were first off the mark as Stacy Barnes won 3-0 against Allison Gallagher but the win was quickly cancelled out as Tracey Dean put Salopian’s first win on the board when she won 3-1 against Sue Price and following up to give the away team a 2-1 lead was lady of the match Sarah Roberts whose straight 3-0 success over Joy Toghill plus her super 22.43 average earned her the award.

Game number four saw Chris Sheen level for the home side as she won 3-1 against Claire Boyle but share of the spoils was guaranteed for the visitors in the very next game when with a 3-0 result Evonne Taylor accounted for Sian Harris. The final score was all square at three each as Kaye Hales won a five legs affair with Steph Clarke 3-2, this being Steph’s defeat of the season.

A 4-2 win over Craig Lewis by Paul Rowley and a 4-0 victory for Mark Crutchley over Stuart Hossack gave Salopian a 2-0 lead in the men’s ‘A’ game. Zak Turner’s 4-1 win over Terry Nash reducing the arrears before Salopian’s man of the match Ben Morgan made it 3-1 with his 4-2 win and 27.74 average against Ian Evans. Breconshire took the last two games of the half when Wayne Glover Beat Ash Hilditch (4-0) and John Donaghey won against John Roberts (4-2).

Salopian got their noses in front again as they started the second half, Matt Elsey winning 4-1 against Richard Webber, but that was to be their last winner as Stuart Owens won 4-2 against Kacey Jones, Mark Layton beat Joe Higgins 4-0, Ben Watkins had a 4-3 success against Steven Ritchie and with wins from Richard Langlois and Zac Griffiths against respective opponents Jon Mansell (4-1) and Scott Dockerty (4-2) Breconshire won the game 8-4.

The weekend’s games produced a 21-15 win for Breconshire which sees them leap frog their opponents and move into fourth place on 124 points with Salopian dropping to fifth place with 117 points but with a game in hand on all above them apart from leaders Middlesex.
