Salopian Super League
Currently in the Salopian Men’s Super League reigning champions Charles Darwin are now one point clear at the top of the table following their 4-2 victory over Hop and Friar in a high quality match which produced a combined winning average of 23.57 per dart with Paul Rowley leading the way for Darwin with a 27.83 average which featured 15,18,19 and 20 dart legs whilst John Roberts (23.74) also impressed with 17,18 and 19 dart legs including a maximum.
For the second successive weeks Salopian Star’s Dereck Coulson (32.85) and Dawley Club’s Daniel Astbury (30.30,12 darts game) eclipsed the magic 30 plus average although their respective sides encountered differing fortunes. Market Drayton’s Salopian Star enjoyed a 6-0 home win over Inn on the Green Wetnor ‘B’ which also saw Mark Crutchley (26.34) impress, whilst over at Telford, Dawley Club dropped points once again, this time at home to Bulls Head (Whitchurch) in an entertaining draw that saw steady performances for the visitors by Terry Nash (28.63) and Nigel Neale (21.93).
Compasses replace Dawley in second place after they came from behind to claim a 4-2 win playing away at the Inn on the Green Wetnor ‘A’. Glyn Thomas (24.10) and Jack Griffiths (19.09) had given the hosts hope before a brace of 4-2 wins for Compasses duo Andy Mullinder (23.37) and Scott Dockerty (21.57) set up a grandstand finish for Jon Mansell (27.19) who edged out Eddie Price (24.94) in what was a cracker of a game.
Bagley Club continued there fine unbeaten start to the season with an emphatic 6-0 win at home against bottom placed Charles Darwin ‘B’. Paul Ashworth (25.69) got proceedings underway in style and although the hosts would drop only two legs Darwin ‘B’ man Gary Swancott checked out on 110. Oswestry’s Griffin also remain unbeaten after a 4-2 home win over Cressage. Griffin’s Kacey Jones (25.74) fired a maximum plus a 115 checkout as he won a key quality match against Shaun Pryce (24.19) to go two up in a lead the hosts wouldn’t relinquish.
Shrewsbury’s Inn on the Green ‘A’ secured their first win of the season. Following three previous defeats a fourth appeared to be on the cards as they trailed at the Monkmoor when Colin Corfield (17.77) put the host’s one up, however the visitor’s hit back to take the remaining five games conceding just one leg in the process.
Inn on the Green ‘B’ had to settle for a draw at home against Apple Tree (Onibury) although it could have been much worse as at one stage they trailed 3-1. Wins for Steve Felton (19.20) and Jason Thompson (20.69) salvaged a draw which preserves both teams unbeaten start to the season.

The Salopian Ladies Super League have reached the quarter-of-the-season stage and Inn on the Green find themselves sitting top of the table but only on average. They kept their unbeaten record intact with a 3-2 win playing away to Heathgates, wins for Julie Griffiths (13.64), Andi Jones (14.01) and Katie Leach (14.05) put Inn on the Green into an unassailable 3-0 lead although Heathgates Tammy Walmsley (15.49) had some consolation as she recorded the highest average of the tie before Helen Walmsley (13.73) doubled the hosts tally.
Compasses secured their first win of the season although they did it the hard way coming from 2-0 down against the Telegraph who led following last leg wins for Pauline O’Callaghan (10.45) and Molly Atter (12.67). Compasses Sam Griffiths (10.05) started the comeback with a debut win and was backed up with further wins for Allison Gallagher (12.85) and Steph Clarke (17.08).
The final game of the night was also decided in the final leg with Karen Weston (12.89) securing a third win of the season for Charles Darwin at the Bagley Club. Sue Lane (14.71) and Sarah Roberts (20.04) put the Darwin two up only for the hosts to hit back with comprehensive victories from Cally Jones (11.57) and Tracey Dean (15.66) to level up the score. However that last leg victory for the Darwin sees them condemn the Bagley to a first defeat of the season as well as leapfrogging them into second place in the league table.
