The South Birmingham League attracted an encouraging 41 pairs to their doubles knockout and taking the title with a 2-0 result were Jim Frost and Luis Barberan who defeated Neil Parsonage and Martin Heaven in the final.

Both of the finalists had 2-0 wins in the quarter finals Frost and Barberan accounting for Bill Cadby and Ben Liggins while Parsonage and Heaven beat Dan White and Dave Mortiboys and then in the semi finals both went to a deciding leg as the eventual winners won against Mark Birch and Mohamed Anwar and the runners up defeated Alan Whitehouse and Ashley Luckman.

Fourth placed The Lyndon were the only losers in the top four teams in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League going down 5-3 away to Mackadown Social who are third in the table. Leaders Crown at Olton took their points tally to 24 as they handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their visitors Highwood KB’s and stay four points ahead of second placed Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows who won their home tie with The Pirates 5-3.

In division one Iron Horse with a 7-1 win at East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association maintained their three points lead over their nearest rivals Sheldon Marlborough Arrows who won 5-3 at Crown-Forget-Me-Not.

With the leaders of division two Shirley RBL Misfits having a bye in week 13 second placed Lyndon Old Boys drew level on 19 points with the leaders after a 6-2 home win over Maggies, but the Old Boys have now played two games more than the Misfits.

The Forest of Arden Winter League played off their doubles knockout and with a close final result of 2-1 it was Kevin White and Kenny Brush who beat Simon Edwards and Alex Edwards to take the title.

Both of the finalists were also taken to a deciding leg in the semis as White and Brush beat Rob Jelley and Derek Williams while the two Edwards won against Andy Howell and Steve Whatmore.

The winner of the league’s Secretary’s Shield was Simon Edward with Pete Shipley runner up.

With only two league fixtures remaining in the Four Oaks and District League both divisions are too close to call. In the first division, leaders The Boat beat Old Oscott Arrows 8-1 while second placed Boldmere St Mikes were 7-2 winners at Drakes Drum to leave them two points behind Boat, both teams have two matches remaining but will crucially meet each other in the final game of the season.

In division two it was a week of close encounters as the divisional leaders St Thomas’s Social Club, in what could turn out to be a vital game lost 5-4 to second placed Erdington Arrows who are now level on points at the top of the table but have played one game more than St Thomas’s. Third placed The Boot kept their hopes alive winning 8-1 against The Duke and are only two points behind the leaders while fourth in the table The Fox were beaten 5-4 by Boldmere Tap and have now dropped out of contention.

After just two fixtures in the Camp Hill League’s new season only three of the starting line-up of ten teams are able to boast a 100% win record. Reigning champions Cotterills Lane Club are in their usual position top of the table but are currently having to share it with the other two undefeated teams Holy Gulp and Eagle and Ball. Cotterills and Holy Gulp in turn won 6-1 against Emerald Club and Tyseley WMC while Eagle and Ball won their home tie with Devil’s Club 5-2.

This coming Saturday at the Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry, CV1 4JJ the Warwickshire Super League will be staging their Super League Mixed Pairs Knockout. Entries, together with the £10 entry fee will be accepted from 7.30pm with an 8.00pm start.

At least one person from each pair must be a fully signed up member of the Warwickshire Super League.

Prize money will be paid out to fourth place.

The Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League has a new leader Devinder Singh, however Devinder has played 20 games to reach his 89 points tally and respective second and third placed Adam Quinton and Chris Williams are both on 85 points and in turn have only played 18 and 16 games.

Reigning champion for the past two seasons Mick Baker is currently eighth in the table some 17 points short of Singh but again he has games in hand as he has only played 14 so far.

The only player from the 22 strong league is West Midlands player Sam Guest who has won all thirteen of his games and is on 77 points, twelve off the top but with seven games in hand and seven points on offer from each game he could in theory take his total to 126.

As a result of not playing in week two of the Shirley Red Lion Premier League Mick Gorst had dropped from pole position to seventh, taking over in the number one spot is Mark Gwalchmai who has won all four of his games so far and only dropped one leg in the process. Mark’s latest encounters saw him beat both Chris Thomas snr and Jack Sidwell 4-0 to take his points to fifteen one more than second placed Pete Silver who began the night with a 3-1 defeat to Paul Higgins, then finished all square at 2-2 with Antony Daly and won his final game of the evening against Chris John 4-0 to take him from fourth to second in the table. However Silver has now played five games and the two following players Lee Harris and Chris Thomas are only one point behind him with a game in hand.

Antony Daly took the week’s prize of £5 for the highest finish which wa 120.

The Pip Club League is up to week twelve and in the Master League only two points separate the top three teams, Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) are top with 22 points but only on average from Queens Head who have also played the same eleven games as Bulls Head. Third in the table Winning Post are on 22 points but they have played twelve games.

In the latest round of fixtures Bulls Head ‘A’ won 9-0 at Royal Oak, Queens Head had a close 5-4 home win over Birchmoor Club and Winning Post beat Pip Club 6-3.

No change at the top of the Kings Norton League with wins for all of the top four sides, leaders Hillyfields ‘B’ won their home game against bottom of the table Coldstream 5-2 to make it ten straight wins while second placed West Heath won 6-1 at E57 to put them on the same 20 points as Hillyfields but from eleven games. Then comes a gap of four points to third in the table Stirchley United who won their home tie with Grant Arms 7-0.

Bulls Head (Netherton) did their title aspirations in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League no harm at all in week five as they handed their visiting opponents Limes Club a 9-0 whitewash keeping them two points to the good on both Dudley Sports ‘B’ and Mount Pleasant, Dudley Sports ‘B’ winning 5-4 at Pensnett Liberal Club and Mount Pleasant with the same scoreline winning at home against Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club who are fourth on six points.

In the Brierley Hill Friday Night League there was a shock for Pensnett Welfare Club ‘A’ as they lost not only their home tie with fifth placed Netherton Cricket Club ‘B’ 5-2 but also their number one position as they dropped to third in the table. Taking over the top spot is Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ who won 7-0 at home against Britannia.

Second in the table Brickmakers Arms have the same 38 points as the leaders after a 5-2 win away to bottom of the table Ten Arches.

The Stourbridge and District Monday Night League played off round one of their League Cup and winning through to the quarter finals were Brickmakers Arms, Ten Arches ‘A’, Fox Inn (Lye), Church Tavern, Hare and Hounds ‘B’, High Acres, Garibaldi and Kingswinford Conservative Club.

It’s as you were at the top of the Rowley Monday Night League with the top four teams all registering wins. The Bell and Ex Serviceman’s ‘A’ both took their unbeaten runs to eight games in turn winning 9-0 over Yeltz Bar and 6-3 against Ex Serviceman’s ‘B’.

Former leaders Cradley Liberal Club kept within two points of the leading duo and hold on to third place with a 5-4 win at Ivy Bush while Whiteheath Tavern in fourth place area further two points behind after their 5-3 win at Three Diamonds.

Woodside march on in the Silver End Sunday Morning League a 5-3 home win over Portway taking their undefeated run to ten games and keeping them six points ahead of their nearest rivals Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ who won 7-1 at home to Old Star.

There was a rare win for Blue Brick who moved up two places from their next to bottom position with a 5-3 win at The Bridge, this being only the second win in ten for Blue Brick.

The Nutan were held to a close 4-3 home win by fifth in the 301 table Allens Sports Bar ‘A’ in the Bilston and District League but with 40 points from 22 games lead second placed Lanesfield RBL by four points although Lanesfield have played one game less than Nutan.

In the 501 league Nutan and Tilted Barrel are both on 40 points, Nutan’s latest win being 2-1 against Allens Sports Bar ‘A’ while Tilted Barrel won by the same margin against Triangle Snooker Club leaving them with a game in hand on Nutan.

Ashwood ‘A’ with two more games to play in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League already have one hand on the winners silverware as they are six points ahead of second placed Brickmakers Arms who have three remaining fixture, however for Brickmakers to win the league Ashwood would have to lose both of their game by a big margin and Brickmakers win their by a similarly big margin.

Churchills ‘A’ have taken over pole position from English Oak in the Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League after winning 7-2 against Red Lion and English Oak dropping to third place losing 5-4 at Staffordshire Knot. After six games Churchills ‘A’ have a two points lead over Black Horse, English Oak and Staffordshire Knot, Black Horse winning 6-3 at home against The Nutan.

The Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League saw Dewdrop lose their number one spot as they surprisingly lost for the first time in six games when they went down 4-3 away to Wagon and Horses, Dewdrop fall to second place while their victors move up two places to fourth.

Island Inn with 4-3 win at Hayes Social are now the only team in the league to have won all of their fixtures and top the table with a perfect score of twelve points two more than Dewdrop.

In the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League the division one singles league sees Riley’s ‘C’ and Sunbeam the only two teams to remain unbeaten and similarly in division two there are only two of the twelve teams, Dog and Partridge and Shed who have won all four games.

In the division one doubles league The Boat lead the way with three straight wins, Riley’s ‘B’ are second but only on average from Riley’s ‘A’, all three teams have six points but Riley’s ‘B’ have played four as opposed to the other two being unbeaten in three.

In the division two doubles just one leg of average separates the top two Yale Club and Wednesfield Legion, both have won their four games the former top of the table.

In week four of the Halesowen Yeltz Bar Singles League Richard Reed continued his fine start to the season with another impressive 5-0 win this time over Trevor Collier which included a 180 and 13 darts game. Tommy Johnson, Neil Steventon and Loz Slater also continued their unbeaten runs with 5-0 wins in turn over Alister Duncan, Richard Barrett and Adam Hill.

A 4-3 home defeat for ECC ‘A’ by Dog and Partridge as seen the former ousted from the number one position in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League and drop to third behind Whitmore Reans WMC in second place after they won 5-2 against Jones Road. Whitmore are now level on six points with new leaders Cleveland Arms whose 4-3 win at Village Inn gives them a slender one point of average lead over Whitemore.

A 5-1 win over P.Kelly has given K.Harris twelve points from his first six games in the Halesowen Friday Night Singles League and a two point’s lead at the top of the table over a chasing quartet of D.McConomy, M.Bayliss, T.Johnson and R.Harris, McConomy beating R.Harris 6-0, Bayliss winning 4-2 against D.Richmond and Johnson the 5-1 winner against C.Kehoe.
