Its’ been a week of finals for the South Birmingham League first the Mixed Doubles in which Jim Frost and Wendy Loxton beat Neil Parsonage and Makela Walker 2-1 in the semi finals and despite a maximum from Nicky Harris she and her partner Steve Sweetman lost 2-0 to Micky Noonan and Sue Kingdon. The final was again a straight 2-0 result with Noonan and Kingdon the winners

Noonan was not so fortunate in the Captains Cup as he lost 2-1 in the last four to Mark Birch and joining Birch in the final was Matt Cooper with a similar 2-1 victory over Dave Mortiboys. The title went to Mark Birch as he beat Cooper 2-0 in the final.

Neil Parsonage added yet another title to his ever increasing list as he won 2-1 against Pete Shipley in the final of the Secretaries Cup. Both of the last four games finished with 2-0 scorelines Parsonage accounting for Dale Evans while Shipley beat Ian Beattie.

The Sheldon Marlborough Cricket Club Singles League have completed their league fixtures and winner of the Championship division with a total of 28 points is Dave Howlett, runner up Dave Humphries finished four points adrift of Howlett.

The Championship title went to Ken Salsbury and despite leading the division for most of the season only took the title on average as Neal Rughani and Pete Jones also finished on the same 24 points as him.

Alan Wale with 28 points was the winner of division one, Nigel Ricketts runner up with 26 points.

The league’s overall table saw premiership player Dave Howlett and Alan Wale from division one both finish on the same 28 points.

The Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League is up to week eleven and leading the way with 116 points from 21 games is Louis Burley whose latest fixtures saw him win 6-1 against Tam Singh and then follow that with a closer 4-3 win over Les Marson. Burley’s nearest threat comes from reigning champion Mick Baker who took his points tally to 112, just four short of Burley when he beat Phil Summers 7-0 and Jay Hough 5-2.

Former leader Kevin Harris didn’t play in week eleven and as a result has dropped three places to fourth and is now 20 points off the top with three games in hand, three games which could net him a total of 21 points and take him back into pole position.

Taking the Small Heath League’s singles title with a final victory over Dave Heighway (Gulp Tribe) was East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association player Tom White.

Losing semi finalists were Neil Parsonage and Pete Yardley, both players were representing the Emerald Club.

The Harborne and District League staged round one of their League Cup and the biggest shock of the round was the 6-1 win by Smethwick Labour Club over Weoley Castle WMC as Smethwick lost their opening game of the season against Weoley Castle Pub 5-1 and Weoley Castle WMC won theirs against Avenue Social by the same score.

Current joint league leaders Weoley Castle Pub beat Bartley Green FC 6-1 and by the same margin Hillyfields ‘A’ defeated Avenue Flights while Hillyfields ‘B’ had a closer 4-3 win over Sportsman Flights.

On the individual scene there were 180’s for G.Sullivan (Weoely Castle WMC), J.Best and T.McGlone (Hillyfields ‘A’) and 107 checkouts for both J.Good (Hillyfields ‘A’) and R.Needham (Sportsman Flights).

Journeys End held on to their four points lead at the top of division one of the Forest of Arden Summer League when they won 5-3 at home against Greville Arrows. Highwood KB in second place went one better with a 6-2 success over bottom of the table Chelmsley Town.

In division two leaders Journeys End Flights handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their hosts Inn on the Green to remain four points ahead of second placed Riley’s Resurrected who had a vital 6-2 win at Highwood Arms who are third in the table and now trail Riley’s by four points.

Steve Sidwell has moved up three places in the Shirley Red Lion Premier League to top of the table after beating Ken Hopton 3-0 and Chris Thomas 3-1 giving him a total of 48 points one more than his nearest rival Pete Silver who had 3-0 wins over Stuart Dixon and Lee Harris to put him on 47 points.

Former leader Mick Gorst didn’t play this week and now lies in third place on 45 points but from only 16 games whereby the two players above him have both played 18. Also on 45 points is Mark Gwalchmai whose 3-1 and 3-2 wins over respective players Lee Harris and Brian Lawton has seen him jump up four places to fourth in the table.

Week two of the Camp Hill League’s new season in which Cotterills Lane Club and Holy Gulp share the number one spot level on points and average. Cotterills won their fixture at bottom of the table Emerald Club 6-1 while Holy Gulp had a close 4-3 win away to newcomers Tyseley WMC. Devil’s Club are another team who have got the new season off with two wins their latest being 4-3 at Eagle and Ball but they trail the top two teams on average.

Just two results from division one of the Sutton and District League which saw The Beehive win their home tie with Old Oscott Arrows 8-1 and Bishop Vesey chalk up a 6-3 home win over Pint Pot Flights.

In division two leaders Golden Hind stretched their lead to four points with a convincing 7-2 win over second in the table Erdington Club.

The Boot lost ground in the title race as they went down 7-2 at home to The Oak Boys leaving Boot on 14 points the same number as third in the table St Thomas’s Club who were also losers as they finished on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline away to Boldmere Tap, both St Thomas’s and Boot have six points fewer than Golden Hind.

Dudley Sports took their unbeaten run in the Netherton Thursday Night League to seven games with a 6-1 win at Delph Bell ‘A’ and in the process maintained their two points lead over both White Swan and Bulls Head who in turn won 7-0 against Delph Bell ‘B’ and 6-1 away to White Horse.

Week seven was a good week for The Widders who for the first time in seven games recorded a win when they beat next to bottom The Crown 5-2 both teams are now level on two points and have the same average.

With eight more fixtures to play in the Cradley Tuesday Night League leaders White Horse did their hopes of winning the league no harm whatsoever as they handed their visitors Roost ‘B’ a 9-0 whitewash to maintain their four points lead over second placed Crown (Station Road) who won 6-3 at Hawne Lane Tavern to keep them four points ahead of third in the table Brickmakers Arms who were 7-2 winners at Gate Hangs Well.

The Stourbridge and District Monday Night League have reached week 31 of their season and at that point just two points separate the top four teams, leaders Ashwood had an 8-1 win away to next to bottom of the table Garibaldi to keep them just ahead of Britannia on average as both teams have played 29 games and have 52 points two more than third and fourth placed Bird ‘A’ (Stourbridge) and Ten Arches ‘A’, however Bird ‘A’ have only played 27 games and wins in those two outstanding fixtures would take them two points ahead of the rest of the field. Bird ‘A’ and Ten Arches ‘A’ like Ashwood were 8-1 winners playing in turn against Plough and Bird ‘B’ (Stourbridge).

T and R Bar were the only losers in the top four teams in the Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League but they were playing against the league’s top team Staffordshire Knot who won the tie 7-2. Knot’s two closest rivals Horse and Jockey and St Mary’s ‘A’ both won 6-3 against respective opponents Red Lion and Civil Defence.

The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League played their division two Riley’s Four a Side Cup down to the last four teams and winning through to the semi finals were Andy Harley, Steve Potts, Lee Smart, Simon Ward (Wednesfield Legion ‘C’), Michele Pritchard, Mark Busby, Paul Duck, Andy Padmore (Riley’s ‘A’), Sophie Fawcett, Russ Smith, Eddie Gripton, Jack Duck (Riley’s ‘A’) and Phil Thomas, Dan Elcock, Paul Jackson, Dave Lewis (Lanesfield RBL).

Little change at the top of the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League as all of the top teams won, sixth placed Moreton were the only losers in the top six as they surprisingly lost 4-3 away to ECC ‘B’ who are just two places off the foot of the table and had previously only won four of their 21 games.

A 6-1 win against Wigginton Arms ‘B’ was not enough to give Fox and Dogs the Tamworth League title as they finished just three points short of champions Prince of Wales ‘A’ and had to satisfy themselves with the runners up spot.

With a six point’s advantage Martin Edwards (Fox and Dogs) won the Players League title, he finished with a total of 54 points whereas runner up Mick Chater (Prince of Wales ‘A’) had 48.
