The Sheldon and District Summer League have staged the first round of their Mrs F.Richman Trophy and it produced quite a few shocks the biggest of them being the 4-3 defeat of the group one reigning champions Olton RBL by group four team George V.

Further surprise results were, Kingshurst and District Labour Club (group 2) going out 4-3 to Scanlons (group 3), Brook Meadow (group 2 ) losing their home tie with Pavilions (group 3) 5-2 and Shard End Social (group 5) losing 6-1 at home to group six outfit Langley Hall Sports and Social.

Other teams progressing to the next round were, New Firs Flights, EBAHA, Holy Souls, Mackadown Social, Highwood Flights, Bagot Arms, Bromford Bridge Exiles, Maggies, Riley’s, Castle Vale Residents Association and Old Bill and Bull.

There was just one surprising result in the preliminary round of the League Cup in the Forest of Arden Summer League and that was the 4-3 home win by second division Sheldon Arrows who beat Sheldon Flights from division one. In the all division tie, for the second successive week Old Bill and Bull, who are second in the table beat leaders Riley’s Red Arrows.

The second division clash between Chelmsley Town and Harvester saw the former just get the 4-3 verdict, while the local derby with Riley’s Flights (division one) and Riley’s Mixed (division two) was a clear 7-0 victory for the Flights.

The Small Heath League staged their Cricket Competition and the winners were the “Jolly Roger” team consisting of Colin Walsh (2×100), Jean Forde, John Cawley, who hit three bulls in one and throw, plus 171 and Neil Parsonage (3×100).

Runners up were Brendan Lysaght (2×140,100), Gloria Lightwood, John O’Connor (133) and Peter Hopkins who played as the “Three Men and a Lady” team.

The Shadow Competition winners were the “Just to Good” team of Glynn Thomas, Joe Fox (2×125,3×100), Michael Looby (140,2×100) and Mick Fowle (100) and making up the runners up team of “Cool Running’s” were Arthur Forde (110,100), Clive Austin (140,125,4×100), Ian McLean (133,122,100) and Mark Fisher (112).

Sports Bar 180 recorded their first win of the season in division one of the Pip Club League this week, a 10-2 win against their local rivals Sports Bar. Belgrave Club have moved to within one point of the leading duo Birchmoor Club and Red Lion following their 13-3 win over J W Belgrave Club. The game between Red Lion and Birchmoor was cancelled.

Bolehall Swifts march on in division two, an 11-5 win at Queens Head included three maximums for the leaders from A.Docker, S.Caswell and S.Whittaker to put them on 19 points, two ahead of Bulls Head (Polesworth) who had a close 9-7 victory at home to Pip Club.

There’s no change at the top of the Camp Hill League as Langley Hall hold on to pole position and their two points lead with a 6-1 away win at Wagon and Horses. Second placed Lady Westminster won their home game with Devils Club 5-2.
