Results went the way of the top teams in the first three groups of the Sheldon and District Summer League this week, so not a lot changed in the league tables. In group four the top two teams Holy Souls and Shirley RBL Flights played each other on Shirley’s board. The result was a 4-4 draw to put Holy Sols on five points and keep them one point ahead of Shirley in second place.
In group five, Shard End Social chalked up their first win in four a 5-3 win away to Yardley Arms. The win has lifted Shard End off the foot of the table and up into third place. Maggies lead the table on a maximum six points, their latest win being a 5-4 home success over Custard House ‘A’.
Highwood KB’s, in group seven handed out an 8-0 whitewash away to Dovecote, the result seeing them leap from next to bottom to second in the table behind New Firs. Despite the win Highwood, with a game in hand on New Firs are five points adrift, New Firs having won all four of their opening games, the most recent a 6-2 home win over Shirley RBL Misfits.
In group three the mid table game between Custard House ‘B’ and Pavilions finished all square at t4-4, but Pavilions player N.Robinson chalked up two maximums and three tons in his game. Other players to find the three treble twenties were, A.Sheen (Mackadown Social), M.Gallett (Bromford Bridge Exiles), P.Milmoore (Highwood Flights) and G.King (George V).

The Small Heath League reached the halfway point of their season this week and leaders Mitre, despite a good effort from their opponents Devils, recorded a convincing 7-1 win to give them a total of ten points. N.Ricketts recorded a maximum for the Devils.
With Emerald Club having a bye this week, Custard House took full advantage, winning by 7-1 away to Wagon and Horses to lift them into second place one point behind Mitre. The result could have been much closer as half of the games went to a deciding leg. Emerald Club, now third in the league have a game in hand on Custard House and are just one point behind their rivals.
Redhill Tavern have enjoyed a turn in fortunes recently which has seen them steadily move up the table. Redhill’s latest success was a 6-2 win at Custard House Flights giving them six points and taking them up to fourth place in the table.

The top of the table clash in division one of the Forest of Arden Summer League produced quite a shock this week as the previously unbeaten leaders, Riley’s Red Arrows hosted their nearest rivals, Old Bill and Bull, who were just two points behind them, and lost 4-3. However, Red Arrows hold on to pole position by virtue of their superior average. At the other end of the table the two bottom teams did battle and it was next to bottom Sheldon Flights who got the better of the 5-2 scoreline over bottom team Kenny’s Boys.
In the second division Riley’s Mixed lost for the first time, a 5-2 home reversal against Harvester. Riley’s Mixed have dropped to fourth and Harvester have moved up from third to second. Sheldon Arrows, who beat Chelmsley Town 5-2 have gone into the top spot. All top four teams, Sheldon Arrows, Harvester, Chelmsley Town and Riley’s Mixed are all on four points.

The Pip Club League have engaged in the first round of their second division cup. Going into the hat for the semi finals are, Pip Club, Bolehall Swifts, Travellers and Bulls Head (Polesworth).

On the fixture card for the Camp Hill League was the first round and semi finals of the Division Cup Knockout. In the first round play off Scruffy Murphy’s, Lady Westminster, Langley Hall and Clements Arms, in turn defeated Laddettes, Old Mosley Arms, Devils Club and Roost.
In the semi’s the winners were Lady Westminster and Langley Hall.

On a sad note, last week Micky Quinn, a former player for Saltley Amateur Gardeners Social Club passed away. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Thoughts and condolences go to his family.
