Cup games were on the fixture card for the Harborne and District Winter league. In the third round of the League Cup there were decisive 6-1 wins for both the George and Smethwick Labour Club in their respective encounters with New Inns and the Raven whose T Hamilton hit a maximum. In the other two fixtures W.C.WMC and Harborne Stores in turn chalked up close 4-3 wins over Travellers Rest and Highlander Flights.

In the third round of the Consolation Cup K.Aspbury (Quinborne) notched a 180 as his side handed out a 9-0 whitewash to the Pheasant. Hobsons Choice were another team to romp to a 7-0 win taking out Stonehouse Flights. J.Best was in fine form for Hillyfields having a top score of 140, break of 160 and checking out in eight and twelve darts as the team won 6-1 against Bartley Green Social Flights, while the Cock Inn got the 5-2 verdict over the Old Mill.

There was a top of the table clash in division one of the Longwood Winter league, with leaders Globe travelling away to take on second placed Dolphin, who were only two points adrift. Globe returned triumphant with a 5-3 victory. Winning Post have returned to winning ways and their latest success, a 6- 2 win against Red Lion ’B’ has taken them into second place with 17 points, two adrift of the leaders, Dolphin dropping to third on 16 points.

Following a 4-4 draw with Kettlebrook, Mercian have drawn level on 13 points with Queen’s ’B’ at the top of the second division, but Queens ’B’ have the advantage of a game in hand. Queens ’A’ lost ground as they were only able to draw with Cue Sports Club.

Just one fixture was played in the Small Heath Winter league that between Victoria 301 Club and the Antelope. The result was a clear cut 7-2 victory for the Victoria 301 Club. Heartlands, in pole position remain the only team able to boast a 100% record after playing three games. On six points Heartlands are two ahead of four teams, Custard House, McVeighs, Victoria 301 Club and the Antelope.

On the agenda for the Forest of Arden Winter league was the men’s and women’s singles knockouts. In the men’s competition Mackadown Social representative Chris Vann was in tremendous form recording no fewer than three 160 breaks plus an eight darts leg. In the quarter finals Chris defeated Mick Gorst (Hobs Meadow) and followed that with a 2-1 success against G.James (Greville Arms), who won his leg with a great 150 checkout.

From the other half of the draw emerged Jim Norris (Highwood Arrows), with a last eight win over team mate Andy Hutchings and then a 2-0 success against Mick Hussey from Greville Arrows. Norris then lost 2-1 to Chris Vann in the final.

In the ladies event the crown eventually went to Hobs Meadow Mixes player Maureen Winters. Maureen reached the semi’s with a win over local Hobs Meadow player Noreen Harris. In the final Maureen squared up to Pat Hussey (Greville Arrows) who on her way to the final had beaten Pat Holmes and Stephanie Didierserre, both from Greville Arrows. The final went the full three legs distance with Maureen Winters just getting the 2-1 verdict.
