In division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League Wernley held on to their number one spot with a tremendous 6-3 victory over Avenue Flights. The fixture produced an amazing 47 scores of a ton or more with both teams recording a maximum, P.Hadley for Wernley and J.Martin for the Avenue. Second placed Raven continued their challenge with an 8-1 home win over the Plough, while Avenue Social produced the shock of the division winning 5-4 at the Monarch.

 

Division two leaders Hillyfields were taken the full distance in their home tie with Village Stump, just getting the points in a 5-4 scoreline as M.Lynch and B.Langham notched 180’s for the visitors.

Journeys End have recently suffered some heavy defeats in the Acocks Green Summer League. However in the latest round of matches they were responsible for the biggest upset, their Mick Seymour winning the deciding encounter against Mick Tysall, giving them a 5-4 success over leaders Shirley Legion. Small consolation for Tysall was that he scored a maximum. as a result of their defeat Shirley have slipped to second place. Tyseley W.M.C. who were awarded a 5-4 win, due to their opponents Langley Hall, failing to turn out, have taken over pole position with 18 points, Shirley are now two points adrift with a game in hand.

In the other fixture played Robin Hood had a close 5-4 win against the Plume & Feathers

Sheldon Ivy Leaf was the setting for the Forest of Arden Summer League doubles competition. More than forty pairs set out to win the event but the honours went to Red Arrows duo Craig Hall and Brian Twist, who with a final success against Hobs Meadow representatives Wayne Matthews and Terry Price took the title.

 

Special mentions for Katai Powell (Heart of England) she recorded a 180 and Gerry Smith (Cornerstones) who had a 160 break.

The Netherton Sunday Morning League are on the lookout for more teams to join them in their forthcoming season which will get underway on the 20th September.

Biggest win in the Small Heath League this week went to division two’s Saltley Flights who ran up a 9-0 whitewash against Red Hill. Close behind them were Sheldon Flights with an 8-1 victory over Small Heath Workers.

In division one K.Malony chalked up a 160 break. However his team, Custard Bar went down 6-3 to Frames.

The league will be holding their A.G.M. at the Custard House, Blake Lane on Sunday the 4th October. Anyone wishing to enter a team in the league should attend this meeting which will commence at 11-00am.
