A re-arranged match in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League decided the divisional title. Midland Red took on Bartley Green Social Club knowing that they needed to win to take the league championship.

The match contained no fewer than 51 scores of a ton or more, including 180 from D.Bourne and a 160 break by P.Brotherton, both Midland Red players. The all important 7-2 result was also in Midland Red’s favour, which meant they finished level on points with the George but won the title with a superior average. Just THREE legs, it could not have been much closer. Congratulations go to all the Midland Red players.

One of the Midland Red players, T.McGlone, gets a special mention. Playing in the league’s Individual Knockout McGlone won his semi final game against M.Hollyoake by 2-1. In superb form McGlone recorded 2×100 breaks125,180 and an eleven darts leg against Hollyoake. He then went on to win the final against P.Blades in two straight legs.

Losing semi finalists were Neil Parsonage and Matthew Cooper (Black Horse) and Mick Nunn and Bill Morris from Saltley Flights.

Winners of the Mixed Doubles Knockout were Alan Caddick and Lorraine Caddick, with Kevin Maloney and Claire Cross finishing as runners up. Making their way to the last four were Terry Webster and Vicky Hanlon plus Noel Cook and his partner Gloria Lightwood.

Hobs Meadow, reigning champions in the Forest of Arden Winter League, suffered an early setback as in the second fixture of the current campaign they went down 6-3 at the Silver Wings. Hobs actually did well to keep the score at 6-3 after losing the first five games.

Last season’s runners up, Red Arrows bounced back from their opening defeat at the hands of the Hobs Meadow outfit, to beat Poachers Pocket 6-3. Mackadown Social produced something of a shock by beating Highwood 5-4. Hobs meadow Mixes made it two wins in as many games with their 5-4 home success against the Cocks and Hens.
