The singles and doubles knockouts were on the agenda for the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League. Taking the singles title with a final 2-0 win over Gladys Beresford was Sutton star Leslie Newcombe. 2-0 was also the scoreline for both of the semi’s where Leslie beat Joyce Webster and Gladys took out Chris Throssell.
Leslie then crowned a super season when she teamed up with Kay Chambers to win the doubles title. Leslie and Kay were taken the full three legs distance in the final by Joyce Webster and Leslie Phillips.
Losing semi finalists were Vicky Edwards and Beattie Powell, who lost to Webster and Phillips. Going out to the champions were Chris Throssell and Leslie Phillips.
The league are looking to get their new season underway as soon as possible. However, there is a need for not only more teams but also more players. Steve Cain chalked up two 3-0 wins in the Bass Breweries sponsored Minworth Social Individual League this week. Despite his successes Steve still remains four points adrift of league leader Dave Shorthouse who has 111 points.
There were mixed fortunes for Alan Smith as he hit a maximum and beat Chris Packer 3-0 and then hit another 180 but lost 2-1 to Colin Farrington. Colin won 3-0 against Mark Elkin, Mark also hit a maximum. Jason Gilbert found the three treble twenties as he beat John Turner 2-1.

The Amber Windows Winter League are holding their AGM on Sunday 3rd September at the King Edward, Lichfield Road, Birmingham, the league are hoping to increase their membership and make the league much more appealing and competitive. P.Reynolds hit a 180 in division one of the Sheldon and District Summer League as his side, Stechford Social went down 5-3 at Shard End Social. In division two R.South (Three Horse Shoes) checked out with a magnificent 167 finish in a 6-2 win at the Iron Horse.
In the third division Chelmsley RBL’s A.Bagshaw grabbed a 180 in a 6-2 win at home to Shard End RBL while division four was the place for the most 180’s of the week. K.Kelly and R.Earl both hit one each for the Heathway as they won 5-3 at home to Yardley Ex Service and there was a similar double for Silver Wings, P.Maund and J.Lucas the men on the mark as the team finished all square at 4-4 with the British Telecom Club.
Highlight in division six was T.Powell’s 9 darts game for the BCS Club. Playing at the Old Bill and Bull Powell hit 100-140 and shot out on 161 for a cracking nine darts 401 game. BCS won the tie 7-1.

The Custard House have powered their way to the top of the Small Heath Summer League. E.O’Sullivan was the sole resistance put up by the Bear as they slumped to an 8-1 defeat against the leaders. However, it could not be tighter at the top as no fewer than four teams are locked together on 16 points. McDwyers hold on to second place despite losing 5-4 to Black Horse who are joint third with Sheldon Heath Flights. Sheldon recording a 5-4 win over Saltley Flights. The Small Heath Winter League will be holding their AGM on 27th August at the Custard House, Blake Lane, Bordesley Green commencing at 11-00am.
