The George, leaders of division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League had a narrow 5-4 victory at the Hillyfields, S.Roe helping them to their win with a 180. M.Smith (Bartley Green Social Club) was another player to notch a maximum as his side went down 7-2 at home to Ladywood Social.
Leaders of division two, the Highlander maintained their 100% record with a 5-4 win against the Village Stump. A 160 break from L.Scullion put Lickey Banker on the way to a 6-3 success over the Plough. Despite a 180 by C.Fuller Stonehouse Flights still slumped to an 8-1 defeat at the hands of division three’s Harborne Stores who are currently second in the table.

Dave Shorthouse was in superb form in the Bass Breweries sponsored Minworth Social Individual League this week. A 180 and a 14 darts leg in his 3-0 win over Paul Burnham was followed by a similar margin win against last season’s runner up Alan Mayell who hit a maximum. Dave’s wins give him a total of 116 points and take him into pole position with a four points advantage over his nearest rival Gary Mills who had a 3-0 success in his encounter with Ian Humphries.
Harry Chambers and Alan Grainger were other players to hit a 180, while Karl Stephens had a game shot of 140.

On Friday 27th October the Minworth Individual League will be taking on the Warwickshire Youth team at the Minworth Social Club. All funds from the match will go to the Youth side.

The third annual Selworthy Open was a huge success with Paul Burnham retaining the title for the second successive year. Paul did not drop a single leg until the final where he defeated Ken Brush 2-1 after Brush had won the opening leg. Last season’s runner up Alan Blythe fell in round one when he lost in two straight legs to Gordon Clinton.
The event produced a great night of darts followed by a fabulous barbeque and quiz run by hosts Cath and Alan Mayell.

Three of the four semi final games in the Sheldon and District League’s Mrs F.Richman Trophy ended with a 5-2 result. Mackadown Social, EBAHA and Saltley Amateur Gardeners in turn took out Heathway, Iron Horse and Stechford Social. Lea Hall RBL had a closer 4-3 victory against Silver Wings.

McDwyers head the Small Heath League table with 16 points, just two more than the Custard House, Sheldon Heath Flights and Black Horse. McDwyers had a 6-3 win over Victoria Social Club, Sheldon Heath Flights a vital 5-4 success against rivals Black Horse. However, Custard House came unstuck in their fixture with Saltley Flights they lost 6-3, A.Caddick having breaks of 120 and 100, a score of 131 and a tremendous seven darts leg for the winners.
The Small Heath Winter League will be holding their AGM on 27th August at the Custard House, Blake Lane, Bordesley Green commencing at 11-00am. Anyone wishing to enter a team for the forthcoming season or alternatively wish to enquire about the league, should contact Keith Stanley on 0121-327-1794

The Sheldon League Charity team were in action against Sheldon Heath Social for their annual cricket and darts day. The cricket game was staged at the BCS ground with the charity team comfortable winners. Sheldon were put in to bat first hitting 126 off their allotted 25 over’s. The charity team chalked up a winning 127 in just 19 overs.
The darts match was played in the evening at the Sheldon Social and finished all square at 5-5. A magnificent sum in excess of £250 was raised from the two events and will go to the league’s chosen charities the Birmingham Princess Diana Childrens Hospital and the University Hospital Burns Unit.

Congratulations to West Midlands player Wayne Jones on reaching the final of the British Classic Championship. Wayne played magnificently throughout and narrowly lost, 3-2 to Glamorgan’s Richie Davies in the final at Kettering.
