The second round of the Knockout Cup in the Harborne 401 Summer League brought together the Hillyfields and George. The contest was a cracker with three maximums, two for Hillyfields man T.Thomas and one for the George’s S.Roe. In addition there were no fewer than 47 scores of a ton or more. However, the all important 6-3 result went in favour of the George.
Bartley Green Social Club, Midland Red and Cock Inn had relatively easy passages into the next round with 9-0 wins over Stonehouse Flights, Highlander Ladies and Travellers Rest respectively. S.Riddick had a 10 darts game for Bartley Green and M.Sewell hit a 180 for the Travellers Rest. Also going into the hat for the third round draw will be Greenlands, Avenue Social and the Plough.

There was both good and bad news for Longbridge Bar, leaders of division two of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League, first the bad news. Undefeated, Longbridge played hosts to third from bottom of the table against Northfield Wanderers. The result was an astonishing 4-3 win for the visitors to become the first team so far this season to beat the title contenders. The good news was that following their shock defeat Longbridge took on second placed Solihull Municiple and bounced immediately back with a vital 4-3 win.
In division three, R.Stokes (Yardley Wood Social) recorded a great eight darts leg in his side’s 6-1 home win over Moseley Cricket Club.

Looking for a little extra holiday spending money, well why not try your hand in the two local weekly knockouts staged at Kingstanding. On Tuesday evenings the Sportsmans Rest, Cooksey Lane, Kingstanding is the place to be for the “Sportsman Open”. The knockout gets underway at 8-30pm. On Sunday nights the K.C.A.Club is the place to be. Again the kick off time is 8-30.
Anyone and everyone are welcome to enter either of the knockouts.

The Forest of Arden Winter League will be holding their AGM at the Sheldon Heath Social Club, Brays Road, Sheldon, on Wednesday 16th August commencing at 8-00pm. The race for the Minworth Social Individual League title is hotting up with only two point’s separating the top three players. Gary Mills is in pole position with 102 points after his 3-0 and 2-1 wins against in turn Richie Baker and Colin Farrington. Just one point adrift of Mills is Steve Cain who hit a maximum and checked out on 116 in his 2-1 victory over Jason Gilbert. Then a further one point behind is Rob South, but fortunately for Mills he has a game in hand on both of his nearest rivals.
Tony Pedley and Gordon Clinton also hit 180’s.

In the latest round of games in the Lea Hall RBL / Sheldon and District League Poppy Appeal Knockout reigning champions the Sportsman gained a convincing 7-2 away win against Sheldon Heath Social Club Jan X. M.Welsh hit a 180 as his side Great Western Nomads also won 7-2 against Iron Horse.A.Caddick was in fine form recording a 120 break a 136 finish and a nine darts leg as his team EBAHA ‘A’ beat Greta Western ‘A’ 8-1.
The draw for round two is, Three Horse Shoes v EBAHA ‘A’, Sheldon Shoes Flights or Shedlon Heath Social Club Blues v Shard End Social ‘B’, Mill House or S.A.G Flights v Chelmsley Wood RBL, Mackadown Alcs v Stokesy’s Quartet, Great Western Nomads v Dovecote or Sheldon Shoes, Sportsman ‘A’ v Sheldon Heath Social Club Jans, Three Horse Shoes Flights v Heathway ‘B’, Saltley Amateur Gardeners R’s v Shard End Social ‘A’.

The Sheldon Charity team recently travelled to Hampton-in-Arden to take on the representatives of the Fentham Club. The event raised a fabulous total of £163 which will go to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the University Hospital Burns Unit.
The team’s next match is this coming Saturday at Sheldon Heath Social Club. In the afternoon the team will play a cricket match against the club at the BCS Ground, Barrows Lane starting at 2-30pm.

It’s tight at the top of the Small Heath Summer League with Custard House and McDwyers locked together on 14 points with exactly the same average. Third placed Black Horse also have 14 points but with an inferior average. In the most recent fixtiures Custard House had a narrow 5-4 success over the Black Horse while McDwyers had a more comfortable 7-2 win against Red Hill with D.Stokes chalking up a 180.

Top prizes of £200 for men and £50 for the ladies are on offer in the first Telford Open Darts Tournamentat Dawley Social Club this coming Saturday. Entry is £3.00 per person in both competitions. All players must register between 11-00 and 11-30am for a 12-00 noon start.
