There were 36 entries for the Forest of Arden Winter League Mixed Doubles Knockout which was staged at the Sheldon Heath Social Club. Despite the large number of contestants the final turned out to be an all Silver Wings affair between Julie Liddell and her partner Jim Gilfoyle who took on Cheryl Jackson and Ron Radford.

Jackson and Radford won the opening leg, a 92 checkout from Gilfoyle levelling the game and forcing a decider. The third and deciding leg went to Jackson and Radford.

Round One of the Denis Houlders Trophy was on the agenda for the Sheldon and District Winter League. Th esurprise result of the round was the 3-2 win by division three’s Hideout who knocked out Mackadown Social who are currently top of division one. Bradford, Rooster, Malt Shovel ‘B’, Olton Legion ‘A’ and Olton Legion ‘C’ all recorded 5-0 wins over respective opponents Iron Horse ‘A’, Hay Mills Social, Sheldon Heath Social ‘A’, Shard End RBL and Chelmsley Wood RBL.

The draw for round two to be played by Sunday 9th April is E.B.A.H.A. v Three Horse Shoes ‘A’, Great Western ‘A’ v Dovecote, Sheldon Heath Blues v Iron Horse ‘B’, Shard End Social ‘A’ v Bradford, Hideout v Spitfire ‘B’, Olton Legion ‘A’ v Sheldon Dukes, Malt Shovel ‘B’ v Olton Legion ‘C’, Rooster v St Anne’s.

The final Sheldon and District Winter League meeting of the season will be held at Lea Hall RBL on Sunday 16th April at 10-30am. All teams should be represented.

Vauxhall Sports and Social Club was the setting for the Amber Windows League singles competition attracting an encouraging 60 players. The event produced some first class darts including a 180 and a fabulous seven darts leg from P.Bevan in his 2-1 win against T.Frost.

In the semi finals after scores of 2×100 and 125 T.Carroll lost 2-1 to P.Koyce whose top shots were 4×100 plus 100 finish. From the other half of the draw C.Betteridge (2×100,140,105f) emerged victorious against K.McQuigan (2×100,125).

In the final Betteridge hit 3×100 but nevertheless lost to Koyce who had scores of 100 break,100,134 and 107 finish before clinching the title with a 140 and 100 game shot in a nine darts leg.

In the finals of the Bedworth Gateway Open Men’s Competition the winners for the second successive season were the Chase Inn from West Midlands. With a 5-2 result the Chase accounted for the Locomotive from Wisbech to lift the title. Losing semi finalists were Jenny Wren (Wiltshire) and Waggon and Horses (West Midlands) who lost to the Chase.

In the ladies competition Boston Shodfriars Social Club took the honours, beating Shropshire’s Fosters Arms 4-2 in the final. Making their way to the semi’s were Bakers Arms (Swindon) and Birmingham’s Irish Centre who lost out to the eventual winners.
