With only two fixtures remaining in the BDO Inter County Championship, Warwickshire, in division one, stretched their unbeaten run to seven games when they travelled south to take on Surrey, returning with a 25-14 victory.

Trina Gulliver (23.49) made it seven match awards in as many outings this season helping her ‘A’ team mates to a 3-3 draw after trailing 2-0 at one stage. Cheryl Jackson and Julie Liddell were the other two winners. The ‘B’ side also finished all square thanks to Sue Deery, Denise Jones and lady of the match Pat Thornton (16.75).

The men’s ‘A’ continued their superb season, Colin Fowler (31.22) the top man in their 9-3 success, making it seven consecutive wins with only two to play. Also on the mark for the ‘A’ side were Peter Brotherton, Alan Sharratt, Kevin Dowling, Steve Hine, Pat Koyce, Steve Dwyer, Andy Smith and Peter Rouse.

The ‘B’ team after losing the opening three games bounced back with wins from Carl Betteridge, Gary Podmore, Andy Mountford (man of the match 3.67), Barry Stephens, Trevor Frost and Steve Cain, but had to wait until the final game before clinching a 7-5 win, Dave Clarke the man who got that vital win.

The overall score 25-14 to Warwickshire. The penultimate game of the season is on the 15th and 16th April at home to Staffordshire. This fixture could well decide who wins the promotional title.

In division two West Midlands had a tough away fixture against second in the table Berkshire. It proved to be a little too tough as they went down 16-23. The ladies ‘B’ extended their run of defeats to seven when the lost out 4-2, seasoned campaigner Rose Mycock their top player with a 19.03 average. The men’s ‘B’ after storming into a 5-1 lead had to finally content themselves with a 6-6 draw

In Sunday’s games the ladies recorded their second win of the campaign, a 4-2 verdict aided by Angie Perry (18.68) who was their top average. The men however, fell to their first defeat this term, an 8-4 reversal with Paul Johnson (27.86) taking the honours. Despite the defeat the men still head their table, just one point is the difference between them and second placed Cumbria.

With an all Hobs Meadow final, the Forest of Arden Winter League staged their Presidents Cup Final at the Hobs Meadow. The match went to the final game before Mick Robbins beat Hobs Meadow Mixes representative Jan Zimmerman 2-0 to secure a 5-4 win for Hobs Meadow. Mick Benson hit a maximum for the champions.

The Consolation Cup final was played at Stechford Social. Again the result was 5-4 but this time it was not so close as Red Arrows had clinched the title as early as the seventh game. Mackadown Social were the runners up.

EBAHA got the 5-4 result against Olton RBL, in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. It was a ver7y close match with high breaks, scores and finishes from both teams. A.Caddick had a 148 checkout plus an eight darts leg for the winners and team mate K.Moloney chalked up a 160 break.In the same division G.Clarke (Shard End Social) hit a 180 as his team beat Smiths Wood Snooker Club 7-2.

Division Two’s F.Goldbey (Malt Shovel) was another man to find the three treble twenties, his team however, were not so fortunate, they lost 5-4 to Shard End Social Flights.

K.C.A. had a fine 8-1 win away to Yew Tree Colts in the Amber Windows League despite a tremendous 156 outshot by Yew Tree’s J.Wickett. Bagot Arms and Old Oscott Social both recorded 6-3 home wins against respective opponents King Edward 7th and the Woodman. Mitre and Seventh Trap were also winners at home as they in turn accounted for Lyndhurst and Aston Social.

The Sheldon and District Summer League will be holding their AGM on Sunday 26th March at the Lea Hall RBL. The meeting opens at 10.30am and all parties interested in entering a team for the forthcoming season, which is to get underway on Thursday 1st June, should attend.
