The second round of the Harborne 401 Summer League Knockout Cup may not have produced any shocks but it certainly produced some high scores. Bartley Green Social Club and Bell Inn both recorded 9-0 whitewashes against respective opponents Hobsons Choice and the Plough. M.James hit a maximum for the Bell as did P.I.Blades for the Bartley Green Social Flights in their 7-2 defeat of the Green Man. Red Lion and Beeches were also 7-2 winners in their fixtures with Ladywood Social and Avenue Social. Other teams through to round three are Hillyfields and Highlander.

Barry Salter was the player of the week in the Sheldon and District Summer League. Playing in group two for Stechford Social at Shard End RBL Salter recorded not only a ten darts leg, but also a fabulous nine darts leg in which he hit 140-140 and checked out on 121. Together with Barry’s feats his team mates D.Grainger and A.Grainger both notched maximums, their team went on to win 7-1.

In group one P.Stevens (Three Horseshoes) hit a 180 as his team went down at home 5-3 to Shard End Social. In the same group Smiths Wood won by a similar margin in their home tie with Sheldon Dukes, F.Keye another maximum man. Another 5-3 win for Gables in group three as they beat Malt Shovel. I.McLean was Gables player to find the three magical treble twenties.

Shirley Legion and Tyseley WMC continue to do battle at the top of the Acocks Green Summer League. Both teams won their latest away fixtures by 7-2, Shirley at the Robin Hood and Tyseley at the Plume of Feathers. However it is Shirley, who as a result of their superior average hold pole position. In the other games played Journeys End and Brewers Arms each had 8-1 wins against respective opponents Railway and Moonraker.

The Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League rounded off their fixtire list with the already acclaimed champions Selly Park winning 13-8 against Sheldon, despite a 18- by Debbie Flynn and the runners up, Northfield winning 17-4 against Perry Barr. Final placings were Seely Park 208 points, Northfield 181, Handsworth 171, Sheldon 164, Perry Barr 104, Ward End 100.

The Birmingham Ladies Double Top League played off their singles and doubles competitions at their headquarters the Irish Centre, Digbeth. Taking the singles title with a final 2-1 result over Lucy Hart was Marion Walker. The doubles knockout was won by Vicky Edwards and Joyce Webster, with Julie James and Margaret Bostock losing 2-0 in the final.

No real shocks in the Forest of Arden Summer League, but there were some big scorelines as in division ‘A’ Harvester and Red Arrows both chalked up 9-1 results against, in turn Mackadown Sports and Social and Hobs Meadow Mixes. Hobs Meadow’s miserable league run continues as they finished with a 7-3 reversal at home to Silver Wings. In division ‘B’ Stechford Social had a convincing 9-1 win as hosts to Heart of England ‘B’.

R.Harewood was the only winner for B.C.A.Club as they lost 8-1 to McDwyers in the Small Heath Summer League. S.Weir (Saltley Flights) was in great form hitting a 180 and registering a nine darts leg in his team’s 6-3 win over Hay Mills. Red Hill won a close encounter with Sheldon Flights by 5-4.

Stirchley United WMC contine to press for honours in the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League. With a 160 break D.Barry helped them to a 6-1 win at the Kings Norton RBL COBS in their latest fixture in division one. Despite being out tonned Caledonian Corks beat their counterparts, Northfield Conservative Club by 5-2.

In the battle of the Tascos teams in division two Social defeated Flights 6-1, the same margin by which Irish Centre took out Allens Cross Arrows.

The Grange made it nine out of ten wins in the third division when with a 4-3 scoreline they accounted for Longbridge Bar.
