In division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League the match between Bell Inn and Red Lion included no less than 47 scores of a ton or more including 180 from Bell’s M.Smith. The 7-2 result was in favour of divisional leaders Bell, a superb scoreline considering that Red Lion fielded a very strong team. M.Heskins (Bartley Green Social Club) was another player to hit a maximum, his team romping to a 9-0 success against Hillyfields to maintain their second place and keep them in touch with the Bell. The encounter between Hobsons Choice and the Plough saw the former win 5-4. The game contained two maximums, one for Hobsons from S.Wenlock and one for the Plough by courtesy of P.Bielauskas.

The second round of the Mrs F.Richman Trophy was on the agenda for the Sheldon Summer League. Hay Mills Social (Group Five) came back from 3-0 down against group one’s Sheldon Heath Social to level terms. M.Gray saved Sheldon’s blushes, he lost the first leg to C.Yardley then with a 180 went on to win 2-1, giving his team a 4-3 win.
Another fine fight back came from group two’s Chelmsley C.C. who were losing 3-1 to Hobs Meadow Flights (Group Six), T.Fazakerley winning the deciding game to put C.C.C into the quarter finals. Iron Horse, unbeaten in group two went 1-0 up against E.B.A.H.A. through R.Earl. But then the group one side powered to a convincing 6-1 victory.
Stechford Social had no problems at the Heathway roaring to a 7-0 win. Stechford are fast becoming one of the fancied teams for the title. Other teams to win from the round are Smiths Wood, (who won 4-3 against Sheldon Dukes despite maximums from M.Hicks and S.Searle), Three Horseshoes, Silver Wings and Shard End Social.

Tony Blakemore (Blakey) was the man of the moment in the Sheldon and District Summer League. League officials believe Tony has played in the league for around eight years and has always been a dedicated and devoted player. However, Tony has the unenviable distinction of never having won a league game. That changed in the latest round of fixtures. Playing for the Heathway at home to the Gables Tony recorded his first ever victory, a superb feat that left poor Tony speechless as his last dart went into the finishing double.
Congratulations Tony, who knows perhaps this could be the start of a winning role!!!

P.Maund (Harvester) with a tremendous 148 checkout helped his team to an important 6-4 win at the Silver Wings in the ‘A’ division of the Forest of Arden Summer League. The win keeps Harvester within two points of the leaders Red Arrows who had a 7-3 success at the Highwood.
Division ‘B’ top team, Stechford Social also recorded a 7-3 win in their match at Fordbridge Social to maintain not only their 100% record but also their slender one point advantage over nearest rivals Heart of England ‘B’.

In the final fixtures of the season in the Irish centre Four a Side Ladies League, champions Selly Park chalked up a massive 19-2 win over Perry Barr to finish the season on 195 points. Yet again the lady of the match for Selly
Park was the irrepressible Lesley Newcombe who notched 4×100, 2×125 a 101 finish plus 2×180, making it FIVE maximums this season, a tremendous achievement.
Northfield secured runners up spot with a 12-9 win against Handsworth which gave them 164 points. Other placings were Sheldon 156, Handsworth 155, Perry Barr 100 and Ward End 100.

No shocks in the Acocks Green Summer League as Tyseley WMC and Shirley Legion both won 7-2 against respective opponents Robin Hood and Railway. P.Deegan hit a 180 for Journeys End as his team beat Langley Hall 6-3, the same margin by which Brewers Arms accounted for Britannia Arrows.

D.Brindley hit a maximum in Springfields 5-2 win over Caledonian Corks. However, Brindley despite his high score went down 2-1 to D.Cockayne.
In division two S.King (Bournbrook) was another player to find the three treble twenties as his side beat Tascos Flights 6-1. Division three’s P.Wallis (Northfield Wanderers) recorded a nine darts game in his team’s 5-2 defeat by the Grange.
