Highwood were in fine form in division ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League winning 7-3 at Hobs Meadow. Top players for the away side were P.Milmore who in addition to scores of 100,126,135 and a 107 break also notched a maximum. Milmore’s team mate M.Hunt recorded a 140 finish. Red Arrows produced a bit of a surprise, not so much their win at home to Mackadown Sports and Social but the margin of their victory, a massive 9-1.

Hobs Meadow may be struggling in the league this season in fact they are still seeking their first win. However, in the knockout cup they are certainly looking a good bet for the title. In the latest fixtures in the second round they took out what must surely have been one of the cup favourites, Red Arrows. The result was a close 5-4 but that was enough for Hobs. Also going through to the next round are Mackadown Social who beat Cock and Hens 7-2, Silver Wings with a 5-4 success against Stechford Social and Heart of England ‘A’ who beat their ‘B’ team 5-4.

Taking the mens title with a final 2-1 victory over Jimmy Haveron (Austin Sports and Social) was Dave Underhill (Grange). Steve Walsh hit a 180 in the quarter finals. The women’s event was won by Irish Centre’s Sylvia Kimberlee with Anne Sweet (Longbridge Flights) finishing as runner up.

Bob Ward (180) and Steve Rainey made it a Grange double when they lifted the doubles title after defeating Karl Ind and Steve Crowe (Bournbrook Flights) in the final.

Having already won the Birmingham Ladies Double Top League title Joyce Webster finished on a high beating both Mo Bostock and Lucy Hart 3-0 to finish with a total of 75 points, eleven more than her nearest rival Angie Bourne who also wound up the season on a winning note, 2-1 against Marion Walker and 3-0 against Mo Bostock. Vicky Edwards was third with 62 points and Jeanette James fourth just one point behind Vicky.

Tony Blakemore (Blakey) was the man of the moment in the Sheldon and District Summer League. League officials believe Tony has played in the league for around eight years and has always been a dedicated and

devoted player. However, Tony has the unenviable distinction of never having won a league game. That changed in the latest round of fixtures. Playing for the Heathway at home to the Gables Tony recorded his first ever victory, a superb feat that left poor Tony speechless as his last dart went into the finishing double.

Congratulations Tony, who knows perhaps this could be the start of a winning role!!!

Other players to hit the headlines were F.Keye (Smiths Wood), J.Hadden (Glebe) and J.Phipps (Hay Mills Social) who all hit a 180.

Greenlands remain unbeaten in division two after a 6-3 win on their home board against the Golden Cup while in the third division Bugle Horn Stay on top with their 8-1 win over Harborne Stores. Beeches proved too strong for Highlander Ladies running out 9-0 winners and Bear and Staff just scraped through 5-4 against an unlucky Raven Ladies.
