The third round of the Wadsworth Cup in the Harborne and District Winter League produced no shocks, but a couple of big wins for the Wernley and Midland Red. Both teams finished at 8-1, Wernley playing at home accounted for Bartley Green Social Club, while Midland Red were away to the Raven. In the fixture between the Hillyfields ‘B’ and Londonderry there were 180s for both sides, D.Cornwell for the former and I.Gethen for the latter who were also the 6-3 winners. Also going into the hat for the next round are the Bell who won 7-2 against Avenue Social.

The Bell were also in top form in the Harborne 401 Summer League when in their Division one home game with Hobsons Choice they ran up a 9-0 whitewash, J.McEvoy hitting a maximum in the process. In the same division there was a shock defeat for the Red Lion as they went down 5-4 to the old Crown ‘A’.

A 157 checkout by R.Hunt helped Greenlands to an 8-1 victory over Bartley Green Social Flights in division two, division three newcomers recording a similar success against Highlander Ladies.

The top of the table clash in the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League, saw leaders Selly Park extend their advantage over second placed Handsworth to seven points as a result of their 12-9 victory. Yet again the top player for Selly Park was Lesley Newcombe who hit 4×100, 121 and a 180. For once Lesley was out-tonned in the league. Perry Barr’s Karen Nelson recorded 3×100,105,129,132 and TWO maximums as her team defeated Sheldon 15-6. Ward End won their match with Northfield 14-7.

Joyce Webster, reigning champion of the Birmingham Ladies Double top League, has not had the best of starts to the new campaign, but in the latest fixtures certainly regained some of her championship form when she chalked up 3-0 victories over Mo Doherty and Phyliss Larden. Vicky Edwards was another player to record straight wins against Marion Walker and Maureen Bostock. Other players to win both games were Pat Bradshaw, Angie Bourne, Jeanette James and Julie James.
