Division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League produced an end of season top of the table clash between leaders Wernley and second placed Raven, the result, an emphatic 9-0 success for Wernley to give them the championship. The match contained no fewer than 43 scores of 100 or more plus 180s from Wernley’s G.Bird and Raven’s K.Redding. C.Eaton (Monarch) had breaks of 160 and 2×120, but nevertheless his team went down 8-1 to Avenue Flights whose T.McGlone hit 120 and 101breaks plus 2×140,125 and 3x100s, recording an eleven darts game in the process.

In division two a 6-3 home win over Bartley Green Social Club was enough to confirm Hillyfields as champions.

Northfield were biggest winners in the Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League defeating Sheldon 14-7, ably assisted by Sylvia Kimberlee who had top scores of 3×100,2×121,134 and 2×140. For the second successive week Selly Park’s Lesley Newcombe hit a maximum, her latest 180 plus 2×100,2×125,140 and 139 coming in her teams 13-8 win over Ward End, to keep them top of the table with 37 points, one more than second placed Northfield.

Handsworth and Perry Barr were involved in a close 11-10 affair with the former getting the verdict.

The Forest of Arden Winter League began with last seasons top two teams doing battle in the opening fixture. Reigning champions Hobs Meadow lost by the odd game against at home to runners up Red Arrows. Top individual performances came from Cliff Davies (Heart of England) who broke with 160 as his team beat Greenwood 5-4.Hunters Moon’s B.Salter hit a 180, his team won 6-3 against Hobs Meadow Mixes.

The South West Birmingham Clubs Summer league is fast drawing to a end and finals seem to be the order of the day, first the Bob Price Memorial Trophy which was staged at the Northfield Conservative Club. Winners were Stirchley United W.M.C. who, with a close 4-3 scoreline beat Austin Sports and Social in the final. Star of the final was Stirchley’s C.Price who as well as breaking with 142 also recorded an eight darts leg.

The mens John Leek Knockout and womens Evelyn Leek Rosebowl were both played at Stirchley united W.M.C. Taking the mens title with a final win over Brian Andrews (Stirchley) was Bournbrooks Karl Ind. Pat Bradshaw (Irish centre) won the ladies event with Paula Draper (Dingle) the runner up.

Roebuck were top shots in the Amber Windows league this week as they stormed to a 9-0 win over Aston Social. Old Wharf followed up last week’s 7-2 success against Yew Tree with a 6-3 win over Red Lion, but it was Red Lion players T.Pedley and C.Betteridge who hit the headlines, both of them hitting 180s. Old Oscott beat Albion 7-2 and it was their A.Mountford who produced the highest possible break, that of 170, starting on the bull following up with two treble twenties.

The league will be holding their delegates meeting at the Aston Social Club Sunday 18 October at 11-00am. All clubs should be represented.

Just one fixture remains in the Acocks Green Summer League and after Tyseley W.M.C. surprisingly lost their penultimate game 5-4 to Journeys End, the title depends on the last game, in which the top two contenders Tyseley and Shirley Legion play each other. Whoever wins takes the title.
