Warwickshire and Worcestershire played their pre-season friendly at the Brindley Moor Social Club, Redditch. From the word go the home team took the lead in the mens match and although Warwickshire drew level on three occasions they never fell behind until the thirteenth and final encounter. In that deciding clash Peter Brotherton forged ahead twice against Tommy Johnson before winning the decider in fifteen darts giving the visitors a 7-6 win.
Warwickshire ladies defeated their counterparts by a 5-3 margin giving the county an overall 12-9 victory.

Also on the agenda for the Warwickshire County has been the Winmau mens and women’s play offs. Seventy five players turned out at the Belgrave Sports and Social Club, Tamworth for the men’s event. The two winners going through to represent the county in the next round at Trentham Gardens on Sunday 1st November are Kevin Dowling (Bedworth Banks) and Jim Kiernan (Minworth).
In the women’s knockout twenty players battled it out for the one place in the Trentham finals. Taking the title with a memorable 3-0 victory over Birmingham Central’s Lesley Newcombe was Northfield representative Julie Liddell.

J.Norris (Frames) was in top form in the Small Heath Summer League recording a nine darts leg, 2×140 and 110 finish as his team romped to a 7-2 success against Heartlands. In the same division one Custard Bar won by a similar margin in their game with Kierans.
In division two Royal Oak’s G.Davis had checkouts of 110 and 100, however his team were not so fortunate as they went down 6-3 to Sheldon Heath Flights. Top scorers of the division were Saltley Flights who beat Coach and Horses 7-2.

Irish Centre gained an important 4-3 win against Bournbrook in division two of the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League, this being only Bournbrook’s second defeat of the season. Karl Ind nevertheless produced a cracking ten darts leg, despite his team losing.

In the Acocks Green Summer League Tyseley W.M.C. quickly bounced back from their defeat at the hands of the Brewer and Baker. Robin Hood were the team who had to suffer for Tyseley’s upset going down by a convincing 9-0 scoreline. It was big scores all round in the league as both Plume of Feathers and Brewer and Baker romped to 8-1 wins over respective opponents Tyseley Staff and Journeys End.

Handsworth began the new Irish Centre Four a Side Ladies League season with an impressive 15-6 success against Ward End. Selly Park were not far behind as they defeated Sheldon 14-7 assisted by Lesley Newcombe who hit 4×100,121,125 and 140. Tricia Andrews (Perry Barr) scored a maximum in her season curtain raiser against Northfield. However it was Northfield who got the close 11-10 verdict.
