West Midlands second fixture in division two of the BDO Inter County Championships was a home tie against high riding Sussex.
Saturday’s games saw the ladies finish all square at 3-3, Christine Banks (17.48) taking the match award for the second consecutive game.
The men’s ‘B’ made it two defeats in a row as they finished on the wrong side of a 7-5 scoreline, their top player was Gary Watts (24.78).
Sunday’s results were not much better as the ladies ‘A’ lost 5-1, Lisa Astbury their sole winner with a superb 23.86 average.
To round off the weekend results the men’s ‘A’ were involved in a 6-6 draw, Keith Allman taking the man of the match award with his 28.78 average.
The defeat leaves West Midlands eighth in a ten team promotion table with 38 points leaving them 38 points short of a promotion place and their victors who are second in the table. However, on the plus side, all the tams above West Midlands have played one game more than them as their opening fixture against Nottinghamshire was postponed until 7th and 8th March 2015.

Despite the entries to this year’s Brandon Open being just 48 the prize money paid out was a tremendous £900. Neither did the low numbers detract in any way with the high quality of play throughout the competition.
Finalist Nick Fullwell squared up to his West Midlands team mate Ian Jones in the last sixteen and won 4-1, he then won group two with a similar 4-1 result against Steve Ward. His semi final opposition came in the form of Adam Smith-Neale, but again Fullwell’s form continued as he disposed of him with a 5-1 win.
Fullwell began his last four game in style with top scores of 139,100,138 and 180 to win the opening two legs in 19 and 14 darts. He then took a 3-0 lead in 15 darts with scores of 140,100 and 140.
Smith-Neale won the fourth in 20 darts only to see Fullwell regain his composure and wrap up his 5-1 win with two sixteen darts legs.
From the other half of the draw, and the winner of group three was Dave Pallett, who had a straight 4-0 win his last sixteen encounter with Gaz Watts, he then beat Warwickshire’s Luke Kennedy 4-2 in the quarter finals and booked his final place with a narrow 5-4 success against Jamie Richardson.
Richardson was fast off the mark in the semi’s as he won the first three legs in 19,12 and 17 darts, hitting in his second leg 140,140,100 and checking out on 121.
Pallett reduced the arrears when he won the following two legs in 20 and 16 darts, only to see Richardson go within an ace of reaching the final when he won leg number six with another nineteen darts leg. Richardson then could have wrapped the match up in the seventh leg when throwing for double eight he missed and allowed Pallett to step in and take the leg with a 32 game shot.
To force a deciding leg Pallett then produced his best leg of the match a twelve darts leg in which he scored 140,100,140 and checked out on 121. Further scores of 100 and 128 gave Pallett the edge in the final leg and he went on to win it in 18 darts with an 80 finish, Richardson way back on 138.
Pallett began the final where he left off the semi final, an 18 darts leg putting him 1-0 up against Nick Fullwell. Fullwell responded with a similar 18 darts leg to level at 1-1. Once again Pallett took the lead, with yet another 18 darts leg, Full bouncing back to level with the fourth 18 darts leg of the game.
Pallett then broke the sequence and won the next two legs in 20 and 15 darts to go 4-2 up in the best of eleven final.
West Midlands Fullwell then had an amazing spell of winning three legs all in twelve darts. Leg number seven saw him score 140,121,125 and finish on 115, in leg eight he hit 81,180,85 and then produced a tremendous 155 checkout.
To take the lead for the first time in the final Fullwell then recorded top shots of 137,140,140 and finished on 84 to go 5-4 up. Although Pallett had not got below 152 in any of the three legs he had not put up a bad performance as he had top scores of 100,128,128,180 and 140.
The tenth and what turned out to be the last leg was pretty much the same as the previous three, Pallett after hitting a maximum was still left nursing 110 when Fullwell checked out on 4 after scores of 100,135,180,78 and 4 for a 16 darts leg and a match winning 6-4 result.
As champion Fullwell received £400, Pallet £200. There was £80 for each of the losing semi finalists and £35 for players reaching the quarter finals.

In the August edition of Darts World I wrote about fund raising activities for young Vinnie Whitehead, who required sensory lighting as he suffered from Menkes Disease. That first night produced eight qualifiers, who were to take on professionals at a further fund raising night. That night has now taken place at St John’s Club, Smiths Wood in which the qualifiers played against professionals Ronny Huybrechts, Kim Huybrechts and Rowby John Rodriguez and what a fantastic night it turned out to be with a further £400 added to the coffers to take the grand total to £2170. The amount guarantees that Vinnie will now get the sensory lighting he so desperately requires.
Organiser Sue Kingdon offered thanks to MC John Fowler, Dave Kingdon, Charlie Kingdon, Mac Elkin, Dennis Stokes and Gill Poole plus the professional players, who together made it all possible.

The Brierley Hill Friday Night League title went right down to the wire being decided in the very last game of the season. Going into the final fixtures Netherton Cricket Club and Dudley Sports ‘B’ were level on 34 points, the Cricket Club leading the field with a superior average. But as the curtain came down Netherton Cricket Club lost their home game with third in the table Pensnett Welfare Club 6-3 and Dudley Sports ‘B’ won by the same margin at Miners (Wollescote) to clinch the title with 36 points to Netherton’s 34. Pensnett Welfare Club ended up third with 28 points.
Bottom team Dudley Sports ‘A’ finished on a high recording only their fourth win of the 21 games season when they beat Bridge ‘B’ 6-3.

The Long Eaton Singles League have played off the finals of their Chunky Cordon competition and the man to take the title was Matt Padgett with a convincing final 6-1 win over Mel Hopkins.
Padgett won his last sixteen game against Richard Turgoose 4-0, but had a closer 4-2 success in the quarter finals against Brian Spence. He then reached the final with an even closer 5-4 verdict over Ray Sallis in the semi’s.
Hopkins also won his last sixteen game 4-0 against Alan Jackson, before beating Stuart Barrowcliffe 4-1 in the last eight. He then won 5-2 against Reece Spurr to book his final place.
The final of the Blind Pairs Mini Tournament saw Malc Tucker and James Atkin win 3-1 against Jason Holmes and Colin Dunston.
On the league front at the time of going to print Tony Glover leads division one having played 18 games and amassed 92 points. Second placed Mark Cowley is just four points adrift of Glover with a game in hand.
Cowley at present has the highest finish of 143, while Glover has the best average of 76.42 and shares the least darts of thirteen with Dean Andrews, Kez Barfield and George Singh.
Just two points separate the top two players in division two, Jason Holmes leads the field with 88 points, Richard Turgoose second on 86. Third placed Paul Iliffe may be five adrift of leader Turgoose, but his game in hand could see him take over pole position. Iliffe also has the highest finish so far, which is 158, Turgoose the least darts of 13.
Mike Booth has a massive 12 points lead at the top of division three, Colin Dunston second on 110 points, both players have played 18 games.
Division three provides the highest finish of the overall league so far, 167 which was recorded by John Brierley, who is third in the table. Colin Dunston’s 14 darts leg is the least darts.

The ever popular Ripley Elite Darts Singles League has again attracted a fantastic 48 players to take part in their winter season which is broken down into two divisions.
The early pacesetters in the Premier Division are Dave Allcock and Ian Richardson, who from their three games have collected 12 points. The duo, are closely followed by Daz Brown, who is just one point behind them and has only played two games. Fourth placed Andy Gillott, on 10 points has also only played two games, but obviously at such an early stage in the season anything can and will happen as time goes on.
Ade Asprey, with 16 points from three games leads the once again “Sleeping Beauty Beds” sponsored division one, with Andy Marriott second on 12 points. Third and fourth placed Clive Fuller and Ant Pearce are both on 11 points and each have a game in hand on the leading duo.
On Saturday 12th December the league will be presenting their fifth annual REDSL Christmas Open, which once again will be staged at the Somercotes Snooker Club, Ladbrookes Road, Somercote, Derbyshire, DE55 4HB.
Subject to receiving 64 entries the prize money will be, for the eventual winner £500, runner up £200, losing semi finalists £100 and losing quarter finalists £25.
Pre registration will cost £10 and on the day £12, to register either send a text to Daz Brown or ring him on 07869-105655. Registration on the day will be 11.00am to 12.30pm, with match play commencing at 1,00pm.
