The end of May saw TD Events stage their Champions League of Darts and the Barn’s Summer Sizzler. First the annual Champions League of Darts which attracted players of all standards from the East and West Midlands, Northamptonshire and Cheshire to The New Firs Entertainment venue Castle Bromwich, Birmingham.
Claiming the first prize of £170 was PDC player Nick Fullwell, Nick lifting the title with a final 6-4 victory over Richard Hosey, who collected £85 as runner up. In the semi finals Fullwell beat Matthew Edgar 6-3, while Hosey got the better of Fred Smith with a close 6-5 verdict. Both semi finalists received £42,50 each.
Twelve years old Luis Barberan progressed as far as the quarter finals, a truly superb performance, eventually leaving the competition as he lost out by 5-2 to Richard Hosey.

Also staged was the One7T competition which was won by Steve Wilson. Steve finished his two legs of 170 in twelve darts and received £20.
Number of entries for the Barn’s Summer Sizzler, were to say the least a little disappointing, but that aside a great day was experienced by those who attended with a variety of competitions to take part in.
Getting the day off to a good start was the One7T Knockout in which Pat Pace had a straight 3-0 win in the final against Ian McFarlane. Pace had had a narrow 3-2 win in the last four against Nick Bache, while McFarlane won his tie with Simon Jones 3-1.
The second competition was the main event, the 501 Knockout and in this Simon Jones went step further and won the competition. In the semi finals both games finished with 2-0 scorelines, first Jones beat Kevin Smith and then young Luis Barberan accounted for the more experienced Ian McFarlane.
The final was the best of three legs and the best of three sets and the result was a 2-1 win for Jones, with luis Barberan once again doing remarkably well.
To round off the day, as in the previous event at the New Firs, was the One7T Contest, won by James Mutch with a fourteen darts leg.

Olton RBL have won the premier division title in the Sheldon and District Winter League with a total of 32 points, six more than last years champions Saltely Amateur Gardeners, who finished as runners up. Highwood ‘A’ took the division one title on 26 points, two more than their nearest rivals Iron Horse.
In division two the race for the title could not have been more fiercely contested, the result going to the very last game of the season between Forget-Me-Not and Shard End Social. New Firs Flights had completed their fixture card ending the season with 32 points. Shard End with the one remaining game were also on 32 points and Forget-Me-Not two points behind them. The result was a tremendous 8-1 victory for Forget-Me-Not pushing Shard End into third place and taking Forget-Me-Not dead level on points and average with New Firs Flights. The top three teams all ended the campaign on 32 points.
The third division was also very tight as Ridgemere Social clinched the title on 34 points from Maggies who also had 34 points, but with an inferior average.
The league’s singles knockout was won by P.Sinnett from Saltley Amateur Gardeners, a close 2-1 verdict over Crown’s N.Parsonage giving him the title. Both players won their semi final games 2-0, Sinnett beating D.Marshall (Iron Horse) and Parsonage accounting for P.Yardley (Ridgemere Social).
Sinnet narrowly lost out on making it a great double when in the doubles competition he and his partner T.Webster lost 2-0 to the Sheldon Dukes pairing of M.Hicks and P.Sunner.
The premier division League Cup final was won by league champions Olton RBL, who with a convincing 7-2 result beat Kingshurst and District Labour Club in the final. Highwood ‘A’ also made it a great double by adding the division one league cup to their division one title, a massive 8-1 victory over Iron Horse sealing their double.
It was Yardley Ex Colts who won the second division cup, a narrow 5-4 result over Sheldon Social, and Langley Hall Sports and Social had a similar margin win over Shirley RBL Flights to win the third division’s cup.

The final of the Forest of Arden’s Winter League Divisional League Cup was a very close affair with fourth in the division one league table Olton RBL just getting the 5-4 verdict over divisional champions Riley’s Red Arrows.
In division two Old Bill and Bull Flights and Sheldon arrows made their respective exits, 6-3 to Greville Arrows and 5-4 to Sheldon Flights. Once again the final produced a narrow 5-4 verdict, this time it was division two leaders Greville Arrows who got the win and second placed Sheldon Flights finished second in the Divisional Cup.
The league’s League Cup produced two huge wins in the semi finals. Olton RBL handed out a 15-0 whitewash to Chelmsley Town and not far behind them were Riley’s Flights who beat Sheldon Flights 12-3.
The final was a much closer affair with Olton RBL just getting the 8-7 verdict to lift the title.

Taking the honours in the Tamworth Sports Bar League’s Charity Cup, with a final 4-1 scoreline against Hustlers were league winners Three Horse Shoes.
In the league Three Horse Shoes rounded off their programme with a 6-1 away win over Wigginton, taking their points tally to 150 and finishing 29 points ahead of their nearest rivals Sports Bar 180 who went one better and handed out a 7-0 trouncing to their opponents Globe ‘B’ to secure the runners up spot, Hustlers were third on 102 points.
In the players League Paul Whittaker from the Three Horse Shoes finished in pole position on 51 points with runner up Mac Tarbuck (Riftswood) six points behind.

Mitre’s Mark Kane is the new Aggregate Knockout champion in the Small Heath League. Mark defeated Edward Martin from Devils Club in the final. Losing out in the last four were Neil Parsonage (Emerald Club) and Paul Webster (Custard House Flights).
In the 501 End of Season Knockout it was Neil Parsonage (Emerald Club) who chalked up the final victory over Alan Wale (Custard House). Colin Walsh (Hay Mills Social Club) and Mark Kane (Mitre) lost out in the last four.

The Gulp League staged their 401 Knockout on presentation night, Glynn Thomas from the Custard House winning the knockout with a final success over Wagon and Horses representative Andy Hegarty. Losing semi finalists were Peter Yardley (Emerald Club) and Mark Kane (Mitre).

The Warwickshire Ladies Super League season has drawn to a close and scooping the title without losing a game was the Coventry Pilot team. The Pilot’s Tracey Edgecombe had the most ton plus scores in the league, hitting 65 in total and also achieving a 15 dart leg, Dawn Barbier of Greenlands and Nicki Thompson of Cubbington ‘A’ also had 15 dart legs. The most Lady of the Match Awards was won by J.Densley of Nuneaton, winning a total of 10 throughout the season. The highest checkout of 160 was shared between Ann Rodgers of Kenilworth and Linda Farrell of Nuneaton Town, also shared was the number of 180’s hit between J.Densley of Nuneaton, L.Taft of Nuneaton Town, T.Zwalt and Karen Cox of Cubbington ‘B’ and for Cubbington ‘A’ Kim Morris, Angela Jones and Melanie Hill.

The Doug Brown Memorial Trophy was staged at the Raven, Hodge Hill and was won by Wayne Mynard, who beat Pete Gould 4-1 in the final. Wayne had beaten Sean O’Donnell 3-0 in the last four, while Gould accounted for Wayne Bowen with a 3-1 scoreline.
The event raised a fabulous £85 for cancer research.
