England may well have been getting the results in Germany, up to the quarter finals that is, but back here in the West Midlands I was certainly not getting the results, darts that is. Everyone went football mad and as a consequence league fixtures were cancelled all over the area so that footy enthusiasts did not miss a single kick. In addition to the various league’s cancelling their fixtures another casualty was the scheduled knockout at Tipton Sports and Social Club, which was due to carry a guaranteed £500 prize for the eventual winner.
Would be organizer John Jones has informed me that he is attempting to stage the event in the very near future.

While speaking of John Jones congratulations go his way yet again for his Tipton men’s team who, have incredibly won the West Midlands Super League title once more. Tipton have now successfully defended the title for the past seventeen years. The last team, other than Tipton, to win the men’s championship, were Ocker Hill and that was way back in 1989, a truly remarkable record.
More details will be printed in next month’s column.

The Sheldon and District Summer League have been engaged in the finals of their Denis Houlders Trophy finals. In the quarter finals Fordbridge Social ‘A’ and ‘B’ both romped into the semi’ with resounding 5-0 victories over respective opponents Yardley Ex Colts ‘B and Malt Shovel ‘A’. Joining them in the last four were Raven ‘A’ who accounted for Farringdon Social ‘B’, again with a 5-0 whitewash and Saltley Amateur Gardeners ‘A’ who beat Sheldon Dukes 4-1. Once again in the semi’s the Fordbridge teams finished with the same scoreline. However, on this occasion it was 3-2 and unfortunately for them it was in favour of their opponents Raven ‘A’ and Saltley Amateur Gardeners ‘A’.
In line with the earlier rounds the final was once more a one sided result, Saltley Amateur Gardeners ’A’ taking the title with a 5-0 verdict over Raven ‘A’.
Top individual performances were supplied by Dean Grainger (Fordbridge Social ‘B’) who had the highest score 180, highest break of 140 went to P.Newton (Farringdon Social ’B’) and Tony Randell (Saltley Amateur Gardeners ‘A’) was named as player of the final.

Following their 6-1 win over the Tribe, Barmy Army have leapfrogged their counterparts to take over second place in the G.U.L.P. Charity League table. The Lions four match winning sequence came to an abrupt end as they suffered on their finishing doubles and slumped to a 7-0 defeat against the Tigers, who remain top of the league on fourteen points, two more than Barmy Army. No Hopers remain firmly planted at the foot of the table after a 7-0 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils.

I recently received an e-mail from photographer Justin de Deney and it read as follows, “I am looking for ethnic and religious minorities who are at the top of their game in the darts world. I want to photograph them for an exhibition that I want to put on. I would be able to travel to them to take the pictures and they could have a print at the end of the day. They have to be part of a minority group but be a British citizen. The more obscure the group the better but this is not vital.
Anyone who can help Justin in his quest can contact him on telephone / fax number 0207-607-6584 or mobile 07976-432645.
