For Warwickshire it was a long journey south to take on Kent in their premier division curtain raiser for the new BDO Inter Counties Championship season. Unfortunately it was not a good start to the campaign as three of the four teams lost the only ray of sunshine was a 3-3 draw by the ladies ‘B’ side.
Betty Sinnett (19.78) was the ‘B’ team’s lady of the match, while Brian Jones took the honours for the men’s game as they went down 8-4. Sunday’s games saw the ladies ’A’ lose 4-2 with Viki Franklin (20.03) their top player and Lesley Newcombe the only other winner. The men finished on the wrong side of a 7-5 result. Man of the match and anchor man Tom Aldridge was in fine form. He lost the first leg after only three throws of 100-101 and 100 as his counterpart Paul Wanstall checked out in twelve darts, 140-100-100 and a 161 outshot. Tom bounced back to win 3-1 in 15-13 and 14 darts dart’s for a tremendous 35.37 average.
