In a rearranged division three BDO Inter Counties Championship fixture, West Midlands took on Devon at Gilberts Bar, Willenhall. With a defeat in their opening game the Midlands side were looking to kick start their promotion challenge.
The ladies ’B’ started their game by going one down when Jenni Aston lost by 3-2 to Jenny Prout. However, with wins in the remaining five games by Debi Hackett, Sara Jukes, Teresa Johnson (18.41 lady of the match), Lynne Reynolds and Teresa Johnston, the hosts recorded a fine 5-1 win. The men’s ’B’ were also in form chalking up a 7-5 win, thanks to Alan Cockayne, Fred Parsons, Lol Frazer, Jamie Parsons, Eddie Price, Ade Arnold and award winner Viv Gould (24.62).
In the ’A’ games, the ladies came from 3-0 down to earn a share of the spoils, Sue Smith (16.34 lady of the match) and anchor lady Janet Hubbard. To complete a successful weekend the men ’s ’A’ also came up winners, an 8-4 verdict with wins from Paddy Johnson, Ian Jones, John Pountney, Martin Tibbetts, Ian Hartland, Peter Wyse, Richard Foster (27.36 match award winner) and Chris Hickman.
