West Midlands, after dropping down a division last season in the BDO Inter Cunty Championships played their first division three game away to Avon. It was not a good start. The ladies ‘B’ after twice taking the lead through Janet Hubbard and Angie Perry eventually went down 4-2. Angie Perry was the top lady with a 16.34 average. The men’s ‘B’ stormed into a 6-2 lead supplied by Joe Biggs, Vic Lloyd, Ron Johnson, Martin Tibbetts, Paddy Johnson (man of the match 26.84) and Paul Johnson. Unfortunately they were unable to record another win to give them their victory. London won the final four games to finish level at six each.
The ladies ‘A’ ended their encounter on the wrong side of a 5-1 result, with Gill Cook (17.69) their sole winner. The men’s ‘A’ began well with wins from Mangal Singh and man of the match Tom Aldridge (28.83), but then lost the remaining four games of the half. The second session also began well with wins from Mick James, Avtar Singh and Nick Walters, but once again they dropped off and the home team won the last three games to give them a 7-5 success and more importantly an overall 22-14 victory.
