West Midlands fighting to stay in division two of the BDO Inter County Championships had a tough home tie against promotion candidates Cumbria. Although the Midland side earned a very creditable 19-19 draw it was not enough. They finished in bottom position and will start next season in the third division. Both men’s teams did exceptionally well, the ‘A’ winning 10-2, Ian Jones (31.98) their top man and the ‘B’ beating their counterparts 7-5, with Paddy Johnson (27.28) taking the match award. However, as it has been throughout the season the ladies were unable to emulate the men’s results. The ‘A’ team went down 6-0 and in the ‘B’ game Sue Smith (14.31) was the sole winner in a 5-1 defeat.
