In week six it was top three versus bottom three in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League, leaders Saltley Amateur Gardeners had a 6-2 win at Mackadown Social and to keep within two points of the top team Riley’s Rags and Highwood Arrows had respective 5-3 wins against Iron Horse Flights and Highwood Flights.

A 6-2 home win over Sheldon Dukes keeps Langley Hall Sports and Social in pole position in group two, The Pirates moving into second place with a similar 6-2 win at George V ‘A’, they move up to second spot as a result of Marston Green Tavern having a bye this week.

In group three Raven were held to a 4-4 draw at Crown Arrows, but nevertheless they take over the number one spot as former leaders Banbury Club had a bye.

Of the 43 teams in the league group four’s Riley’s Misfits are the only team still able to boast a 100% win record, their latest success being a 5-3 win away to Baldwin Bears, who are their nearest rivals and now four points behind.

Group six leaders Highwood KB’s were surprisingly held to a 4-4 draw at home to local rivals Highwood Exiles ‘A’, who are placed next to bottom of the table with only three points.

The joint leaders of group seven Emerald Flights and Meadway Sports and Social in turn both won 6-2 away to Langley Hall Ladies and Highwood Exiles ‘B’ to keep them level on points and average.

Crown ‘A’ maintained their 100% record and also their eight points lead at the top of the Cradley Tuesday Night League with a close 5-4 win at Members Club, pushing their hosts down one place in the table to fourth. Brickmakers take over the third spot with a 5-4 win at Crown ‘B, but remain four points adrift of Chainmakers ‘B’ in second place as they beat Netherton Sports and Social ‘A’ 7-2.

B.Nixon (Olton Crown) produced a fantastic maximum finish of 170 in the semi finals of the division one Divisional Cup in the Forest of Arden Summer League to help his side win 4-3 against Greville Arrows. From the other half of the draw Harvester beat Highwood KB 5-2.

The final saw the division one champions, Olton Crown add another title to their list when they defeated Harvester 4-1.

The division three semi finals saw New Inns lose 6-1 to Highwood Exiles and the division’s champions, Centurion beat Riley’s Wings 5-2. The final finished was another 5-2 win for Centurion with Highwood Exiles runners up.

Ten Arches ‘A’ took their opening winning run in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League to six, and with a 160 break from S.Bills snr beat The Bridge 6-1, The Bridge dropping down to sixth place from third. R.Pitt (Wombourne Cricket Club) was another player to break with 160 as his team won 4-3 against The Fox to place them fourth in the table.

The two Ashwood teams have begun the season well as the ‘A’ side beat The Bell 6-1 to put them in second place and just two points off the top and the ‘B’ side won 4-3 at home to Dudley Sports, leaving them a further two points behind their ‘A’ team and in third place in the table.

The Stourbridge and District Monday Night League got their new season underway and there were mixed fortunes for the two new teams as Britannia won 6-3 away to Brickmakers and New Inns lost 5-4 at The Plough.

Reigning champions High Acres have move to The Ashwood and began where they left off as they won 6-3 at Church Tavern. However, the early pacesetters are Stourbridge RBL, who handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their visitors Queens.

The Aston League will be holding their AGM on Wednesday 27th August at Riley’s, Erdington and will begin at 8.30pm.

Any teams interested in joining the league and are based within a seven miles radius of Aston are welcome to join for the 2014 / 15 season, which will get underway in early September.

With Chelmsley Wood RBL not playing this week in Group ‘A’ of the South Birmingham League, second in the table Raven took full advantage to reduce the arrears with a 5-3 win over St John’s to put them within one points of Chelmsley, but having played one game more. The Dog moved off the foot of the group when they recorded their first win in five, beating Banbury Club 5-3 to see their opponents take over the bottom spot.

Group ‘B’ produced a bottom of the table clash with bottom team The Trident hosting their nearest rivals Coleshill Social. The outcome was a convincing 7-1 win for Coleshill to move them above The Punch Bowl, who after a 6-2 home defeat to the hands of The Crown team have a worse average.

Smithswood Social lost ground in Group ‘C’ title race when they were held to a 4-4 draw away to fourth placed The Gate and as a result drop from second to third in the table and are now three points off the top. Toby Jug take over second place, they won 6-2 at The Kingfisher.

The West Midlands will be holding the following AGM’s at their headquarter Gilberts Bar, Willenhall, the men’s super league on Wednesday 27th August at 20.30pm, the women’s super league on Sunday 7th September and the AGM for the county will be on Sunday 7th September at 11.30am, or immediately following the women’s super league meeting.

Any proposals need to be put in writing with a seconder to Steve Gittus (County Secretary) no later the 20th August for the men’s super league and 31st August for the women’s.

The Division Two Singles Knockout was the order of the day for the Pip Club League and taking the homours with a final victory over Mark McCloughlin (Bulls Head ‘B’, Polesworth) was White Lion representative Duncan Campbell. Losing semi finalists were Leighton Young (White Lion) and Martin Richards (Old Liberal).

The top four teams in the Small Heath League all won this week, Gulp Tribe holding on to their eight points lead with a 7-2 win at Sheldon and Marlborough Flights, while second placed Shannon’s, who are two points behind the leaders won 6-3 at Emerald Club Flights. Third placed Emerald Club also won 6-3 against Cob’s Bar to stay two points behind Shannon’s and a further two points behind comes Westminster Lions, who had a close 5-4 verdict at Wagon and Horses.

Big wins for the top three teams in the Camp Hill League, top side Gulp Tribe won 6-1 at The Lions, second placed Cotterills Lane Club had a 5-2 success at Bordesley Labour Club and third in the league Scruffy Ringers were 6-1 winners at Wagonners, all three teams have an unbeaten six points from the first three games.

It’s as you were at the top of division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League as Otter and Vixen just edged out their visitors Railway, who are in the bottom half of the table, with a 4-3 win to maintain their two points lead and the number one spot. Second in the table Riley’s ‘C’ had a more comfortable 5-2 win at Penn Bowling and third placed Victoria had an important 5-2 win over close rivals Ashmore Inn, who dropped from fourth to fifth in the table.

It’s tight at the top of division two with no fewer than three teams locked on 32 points after playing 19 games. Wednesfield Legion ‘A’ lead the way on average, their latest win being 4-3 against Roebuck, who were the only losers in the top five teams. Second in the table Wednesfield Conservative Club also won their home tie with King Charles 4-3 and third placed Chillington Club reduced the average deficit slightly with a 5-2 win at Ukrainian Club.

Whitmore Reans WMC march on in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League, a 6-1 home win over bottom of the table Otter and Vixen ‘A’, taking their unbeaten run to fifteen games. Second placed Riley’s lost a vital game away to third placed Otter and Vixen ‘B’ 5-2. The two teams are now both eight points behind Whitmore, and Moreton too are on the same 22 points following their massive 7-0 win against Pendulum.

This week saw the beginning of the 501 section in the Riley’s Friday Individual League with John Burdett continuing his remarkable run of unbeaten matches to stay top of the table. Luis Barberan moved into second place with two 5-0 victories against D.Bond jnr and B.Lysaght and against Bond set a new target for least number of darts in a leg by hitting an eleven darter. Paul Cummings holds on to fourth position with Barry Stephens in third, good night for Gary Taylor with two convincing wins which sees him move on to 18 points.
