Last weekend a charity match was staged at the Gate, Colley Gate in aid of Lupus UK. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a complicated autoimmune disease that is capable of affecting almost every part of the body. There is no cure for Lupus, but it can be effectively be controlled with drugs, as I know too well as my wife, Sheila suffers with it and has to take a daily cocktail of drugs to control the numerous affects the disease brings about..
The event was won by Dan Haden, who had a final 4-2 win over Steve Morris, in what was a much closer game than the scoreline suggests. A special mention for 14 years old Shae Essom, who played well throughout the knockout and only lost in the quarter finals as he miss calculated his final outshot.
The first round loser’s competition was won by Shawn Hill with a final success over Scott Roberts.
The event raised a tremendous £220 for a very worthy cause.

The Cradley Tuesday Night League played their singles knockout at various venues to bring it down to the final sixteen players. Winning through were R.Lenton, J.Lowe, M.Tedstone (Crown ‘A’), R.Reed (Yeltz Bar), A.Dimmock, M.Stanton (Wheatsheaf), C.Robinson (Roost ‘A’), S.Attwood (Hawne Lane Tavern), M.Roberts, D.Haden (The Gate, Colley Gate), I.Townsend, D.Redding, S.Booton (The Gate, Darby End), D.Merrick (Jay’s Bar), N.Fullwell (Chainmakers).
Just one result remains outstanding from the Netherton Sports and Social ‘A’ venue.

There were wins for the top two teams in group ‘A’ of the South Birmingham League, leaders Chelmsley Wood RBL winning 5-3 away to third placed St John’s, while second in the table The Raven had a 6-2 home win over bottom of the table The Dog to stay within one point of Chelmsley.
There was a setback to The Crown’s title hopes in group ‘B’ as they suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 6-2 at home to second placed Riley’s Kings, to put Riley’s on the same six points as Crown with a game in hand.
The top three teams in group ‘C’ beat the bottom three teams, leaders St John’s Flights won 6-2 at The Gate, second placed Toby Jug had a 5-3 home success against Poachers Pocket and third in the table Smithswood Social handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their guests Kingfisher.

Despite a 4-3 win for Ten Arches ‘A’ against Ashwood ‘B’ in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League they are no longer outright leaders as Ashwood ‘A’ have joined them on the same 6 points and are level on average after their 5-2 home win over Wombourne Cricket Club, who drop from second to fifth. Bridge take over third place with a 6-1 win over Gigmill to put them level on points with the top two teams.
Biggest win of the week went to Ten Arches ‘B’, a 7-0 victory over their hosts The Fox. Rose and Crown chalked up their first win in three when they beat Netherton Cricket Club 6-1.

Saltley Amateur Gardeners dropped their first points in four games when they were held to a 4-4 draw at Highwood Arrows in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League. Saltley hang on to the top spot with seven points, but Highwood drop one place to third, one point behind Riley’s Rags, who have six points following their 6-2 home win over Mackadown Social.
There was a shock for second in the table Marston Green Tavern in group two as they lost 5-3 at The Pirates, who move off the foot of the table after recording their first win of the campaign. Langley Hall Sports and Social beat George V ‘A’ to give them a three point’s advantage at the top of the table, while their hosts drop into the bottom spot.
Group four’s Riley’s Misfits are now the only team in all seven group’s with a 100% win record, having won all three of their games so far. Second placed Baldwin Bears won 6-2 at Maggies to put them level on six points with the “Misfits”, but they have now played one game more.

Following a close 5-4 win at Emerald Club, Gulp Tribe have opened up an eight points lead at the top of the Small Heath League. Emerald lose their number two place to Shannon’s, who won their home tie with Clock Inn 7-2, however, Emerald Club have played one game fewer than Shannon’s and are only two points behind them.

Week two in the Camp Hill League and leaders Gulp Tribe, who have dropped just one game so far beat Devil’s Club 7-0 to push their opponents into the bottom spot. Second placed Cotterills Lane Club won 5-2 at Station Flights and third in the table Scruffy Ringers won by a close 4-3 at The Lions. All of the top three teams have a maximum four points from the opening two fixtures.
Wagonners recorded their first win, a 5-2 success at home to Bordesley Labour Club, lifting Wagonners off the foot of the table.

The Riley’s Friday Night Individual League, playing the best of eight games of 301 double start for the first seven weeks of their season and the best of eight games of 501 straight start for the next seven are just one week away from completing the first session.
With the majority of players having completed twelve games John Burdett is way out in front with 24 points, seven more than his nearest rivals Barry Stephens and Paul Cummings. Luis Barberan and Carl Betteridge are both just one more point adrift on 16 points.

Just one rearranged fixture played in the Pip Club League, which saw Dolphin win 14-2 at Sports Bar ‘180’. The result does affect the league standing, Dolphin moving to within four points of leaders Bulls Head ‘A’, who are on 49 points, while Sports Bar ‘180’ remain in seventh place with 30 points.

The Rowley Monday Night League played the second leg of their League Cup and saw wins for Crown, Ivy Bush ‘Z’ and Bulls Head, however, the Victoria will not go into the next round as they lost 6-3 in the first leg to Plough and Harrow losing 10-8 over both legs.

Just one result from division one of the Forest of Arden Summer League which saw Olton Crown beat Riley’s Red Arrows 4-3 to make it eight straight wins for the leaders.
In division two Iron Horse remain four points ahead of Peachy Keens, both teams winning 5-2 in their respective games against Chelmsley Town and Crown Arrows.
Centurion kept their undefeated run going in division three with a convincing 6-1 win at Riley’s Wings. Second in the table New Inns beat Ivy Leaf Bulls 5-2 to remain four points off the top.

Otter and Vixen consolidated their pole position in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League with a 6-1 win away to Bradmore. Riley’s ‘C’ kept in touch with the leaders with a 5-2 success against local rivals Riley’s ‘A’ and stay four points behind. A 4-3 win for Victoria saw them move up one place to third, Ashmore having a bye a dropping one place to fourth.
In division two there is a real battle for the top spot with Wednesfield Legion ‘A’ and Chillington Club both locked on 28 points, the former winning 6-1 against their ‘B’ team and the latter having a 5-2 win against Yale Club.

Played fourteen, won fourteen, that’s the record for Whitmore Reans WMC in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League, their latest victory being a 6-1 home win against Jones Road. Second placed Riley’s went one better with a 7-0 home win over Otter and Vixen ‘A’, but still remain eight points behind the leaders as do Otter and Vixen ‘B’, both teams having played one game fewer than the leaders.
