Cup matches were on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Winter League round two of their Punch Bowl produced one shock with Raven, currently top of division one beating premier division opponents Mackadown Social 5-4. There were a couple of all premier division clashes, Sheldon Dukes winning 5-4 against Highwood ‘A’ and Crown at Olton finishing 7-2 winners at Kingshurst and District Labour Club.

Willclare Sports and Social won the all division game against Maggies 6-3 and also going through to the next round will be Old Bill and Bull, Crown at Shard End, Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Shard End Social.

In the preliminary round of the Sheldon Shield premier division side Langley Hall Arrows made short work of their division two opponents Small Heath Amateur Gardeners beating them 8-1, while Iron Horse, also from the premier had a close 5-4 verdict over their division two visitors Highwood Exiles. The all division two encounter between Shirley RBL Misfits and Ridgemere Social saw the latter win 6-3.

The Four Oaks and District League staged the Central Container Services sponsored Richard Winslow pairs competition, which was held at two venues, Red Lion, Erdington and Riley’s Snooker Club.

The semi finals at the Red Lion N.Clarke and K.Deeley (The Beehive) beat J.Dunn and J.Morris jnr (Deer’s Leap Stags) 2-0 and with a similar result M.Partridge and J.Prince won against P.A.Seadon and C.Morgan to set up an all Beehive final.

The final was another clear 2-0 victory in favour of Partridge and Prince, who throughout the evening dropped just one leg.

J.Morris jnr and J.Prince both recorded a maximum.

At Riley’s it was a case of déjà vu as once again one team supplied the two finalists, on this occasion it was The Nomads, who amazingly provided the two finalists at the same venue last season.

The semi finals saw M.Corfield and G.Taylor beat M.Hawkins and N.Robbins from the White Lion 2-0 and W.Mynard and M.Archer also win 2-0 against D.Walton and T.Taylor (Anvil Nomads).

Remarkably in the final W.Mynard and M.Archer won 2-0 against their team mates M.Corfield and G.Taylor, the same pair repeating last year’s win.

  1. Wild & M. Ashton (Sutton Sports) had a 13 darts game, M. Ashton hitting a 180.

The two winning pairs will now play each other in the grand final at the Red Lion on the 1st April.

With Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club having a bye this week in the Netherton Thursday Night League Rose and Crown took full advantage of their opportunity to replace them at the top of the table. Rose and Crown had a 7-2 home win over Pensnett and Bromley to put them on 33 points, the same as Ex Serviceman’s but with a superior average. However, Ex Serviceman’s now have a game in hand a win would see them return to pole position.

Prince of Wales lost ground in the title race as they lost 5-4 at Springfield Social Club. As a result both teams are now on 30 points, Prince of Wales dropping two places to fifth and Springfield moving up one to fourth.

Brickmakers ‘A’ are third in the table their convincing 8-1 win over Chainmakers giving them 30 points and a better average than their two rivals Springfield and Prince of Wales.

The South Birmingham League had round two of the Roy Parry Cup on the agenda The Crown, with a maximum and a146 checkout from A.Hoey handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Pavilions, while Coleshill Social were awarded the same 9-0 result against Shard End Ladies.

Riley’s Kings won their home game against Iron Horse 5-4, J.Evans recording an eleven darts leg for Iron Horse.

Crown ‘A’ continue to lead the Cradley Tuesday Night League, their latest conquest a close 5-4 verdict away to middle of the table Chainmakers ‘B’ putting Crown on a perfect eight points. Also unbeaten are second in the table Chainmakers ‘A’, who won their away game against Crown ‘B’ 7-2 to leave them trailing slightly on average to Crown ‘A’.

Wheatsheaf lost ground and dropped one place to fifth following their somewhat surprising 7-2 defeat away to Netherton Sports and Social ‘B’, who leapt six places up the table to eighth.

Yeltz Bar chalked up their first win of the campaign a 6-3 home success against Gate (Darby End) this being Yeltz Bar’s first win in four.

Fox and Dogs made it twelve wins in a row and kept their unbeaten run going when they won 6-1 against Sports Bar in the Tamworth League. Fox and Dogs are now on 104 points and have an eight points lead over the rest of the field. Dolphin ‘A’ are second in the table, they also won 6-1 against their visitors Three Tuns, Fazeley.

A total of 68 players took part in the new Bedworth Open Knockout staged at the Bedworth United Football Club and winning the inaugural title was Warwickshire county player Graham Hall. Hall had a final success over fellow county player Mark Carter.

Hall had previously beaten Kev Taylor in the semi finals, while Carter accounted for Ian Shaw.

Graham Hall continued his rich vein of form when he won the Warwickshire county world play off against another Dean Stewart 3-1 to claim his place in the Lakeside International Play Off’s to be held later this year.

Hall beat Anthony Childs in the last four Stewart overcame the challenge of Dave Sanders.

This was the second time in only a couple of weeks that Hall had played against Stewart in a final, the previous one being the Gold Cup singles in which Stewart won.

In the ladies event the semi finals saw Angela Jones beat Ann Rodgers 3-1 and Kat Spanswick win by a close 3-2 against Wendy Adams. The final produced a straight 3-0 result going in favour of Kat Spanswick.

It’s as you were at the top of the Rowley Monday Night League with the top six teams all winning. Leaders Crown had a comfortable 7-2 home win over Timber Tree, while second placed Springfield Social Club handed out a 9-0 whitewash to their visitors Fairfield. Two other teams Ivy Bush ‘Z’ and Allens Sports Bar in turn won 8-1 against Moon Under Water and 7-2 against Ivy Bush ‘A’ to complete the top four, all of them with a 100% win record so far.

Fifth in the table Ex Serviceman’s beat Hunting Tree 8-1 and Whiteheath Tavern had a close 5-4 success against the Boat.

The first round of their League Cup was the order of the day for the Small Heath League and saw wins for Emerald Club Flights, Gulp Tribe, Emerald Club and Custard House against respective opponents Westminster Lions, Clock Inn, Victoria New Club and Sheldon Marlborough Flights.

The Camp Hill League were also engaged in the first round of their League Cup in which Bordesley Labour Club, Cotterills Lane Club, Gulp Tribe and Station Hotel made it through to the next round at the expense of Devil’s Club, Scruffy Ringers, Wagonners and Westminster Lions.

The finals of the Pip Club League’s Open Cup Knockout saw two Bulls Head team make it through the semi finals, Bulls Head (Two Gates) beating Dolphin and Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth) winning against Belgrave Club.

The final was a victory for Bulls Head ‘A’ (Polesworth).

The latest results from the Riley’s Sunday Knockout League saw Trevor Frost and Neil Parsonage engaged in a battle royal in the ‘A’ knockout final. Frost was the close 4-3 winner with scores of 2×180,2×140,7×100 and a 120 game shot. Parsonage was also in a top scoring mood as he recorded scores of 2×140,11×100 and a 119 break. The win sees Frost move into second place in the table, just four points adrift of leader Ian McFarlane however, Frost had played one more game than McFarlane. Third in the Mike McFall has 78 points and although six behind McFarlane does have a game in hand.

Brendan Lysaght is fourth on 66 points following his 3-1 win against Kevin Smith in the final of the ‘B’ knockout.

Riley’s took their lead at the top of the Aston League to four points when they won their home game with Oscott Social 8-1. Sportsmans Rest are second on 22 points, with Golden Hind third, who surprisingly lost 5-4 away to seventh placed Old Oscott WMC and as a result are now six points behind Riley’s. B.Trayhern hit a maximum for Old Oscott WMC.
