The Sheldon and District Summer League have had their Mrs F. Richman Cup on their agenda and round one produced a few shock results. Group five‘s Willclare Sports and Social has a surprising 5-2 win away to Poachers Pocket from group two, while group four’s Riley’s Rags beat their group three opponents George V ‘A’ by the same scoreline. Group six leaders Baldwin Bears suffered a 4-3 defeat at Greville Arms, who hail from group seven.

In the local derby between Langley Hall Flights (group seven) and Langley Hall Arrows (group three), the late had a resounding 7-0 victory.

Other winning teams going through to round two are, Crown at Olton, Banbury Club, Crane, EBAHA, Iron Horse, Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Riley’s Kings, Custard House, Sheldon Social, Highwood Flights and Mackadown Social.

Week twenty saw good wins for title contenders Cleveland Arms and Quarry Bank in the Vic Lloyd Thursday Night League, Cleveland winning their home tie with New Inns 5-1 and Quarry bank going one better by handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their visitors Staffordshire Knot ‘D’.

Staffordshire Knot ‘A’ were surprisingly held to a 3-3 draw in their home game against mid table Stile.

The Sports Bar Shadow League Divisional Cups were on the fixture card in the Pip Club League and in the division one semi finals play off there were wins for Birchmoor Club and Dolphin against respective opponents Sports Bar ‘180’ and Dosthill Club.

The last four play off for division two saw Royal Oak beat Old Liberal and Travellers account for Pip Club.

The two finals will be staged at the Sports Bar on Thursday 8th August.

After completing the first four fixtures in the South Birmingham League Mackadown Social, with a convincing 8-0 over Kingfisher have opened up a two points lead at the top of the group ‘A’ table. Toby Jug

have lost second place and dropped to fourth following their massive 7-1 defeat away to Punchbowl, who have moved up on place in the table to third.

Taking over second place is Farthings, who won 7-1 at home to Shard End Social.

The Dog lead group ‘B’ with a perfect eight points their latest win being a 6-2 verdict over The Trident. However, their lead is just a slender one point over St Johns, who won their home tie with Banbury Flights 5-3.

Just average separates the top two teams in group ‘C’, Riley’s Kings were awarded an 8-0 win over Smithswood Social, who failed to turn up and they lead the way with Crown at Shard End hot on their heels, a 5-3 win against Pavilions keeping them level on points.

A 7-0 whitewash over Crown Arrows has seen Cotterills lane Club take over pole position in the Camp Hill League. However, Scruffy Ringers are just one leg of average behind them after a 5-2 win at Wagonners and third placed Bordesely Labour Club are also on the same six points as the top two teams, their 5-2 home win over Devil’s Club meaning they have played one game more than the two teams above them.

The top of the Cradley Tuesday Night League remains the same after the top three teams all produced wins this week. Leaders Brickmakers played away to bottom team Roost ‘B’, the difference in positions showing in the 6-1 win for the away side. With 38 points Brickmakers are four ahead of Quarry Bank Liberal Club, who won 5-2 against the Boat and Yeltz Bar, who had a narrow 4-3 success at fourth in the table Jays Bar.

Jays Bar, Gate (Coley Gate) and Plough and Harrow are all on 28 points.

Village ‘A’, leaders of division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League won a vital away game 4-3 against Victoria, who as a result of their loss have dropped one place in the table to fourth. Otter and Vixen ‘B’ hold on to second place with a 6-1 win at Pavilion, but remain four points adrift of the leaders. Wolverhampton Sports Arena ease up into third place after a 5-2 win at Boat ‘B’. At the other end of the table bottom team Bird in Hand recorded a somewhat rare win, only their third in eighteen when they beat Penn Bowling, who are currently fifth in the league.

Electric continue to hold the number one spot in division two, a 6-1 win against Yale Club giving them 30 points and a two points lead over Village ‘B’ who moved up to second place after a 4-3 home win over Riley’s ‘A’, who drop from second to fourth.

The Crane fell further behind in the division two title race in the Forest of Arden Summer League when they were beaten 4-3 at home by Crown Arrows. Leaders Highwood KB won 5-2 at Sheldon Flights and are now two points clear of Crane with two games in hand.

In division three Greville Arms won for the first time this season, after losing four games they won 5-2 at Ivy Leaf Bulls. Top team Highwood ‘C’ won their home game with Ivy Leaf 4-3.

A reminder that this coming Sunday the Forest of Arden League and Riley’s Solihull will be staging their Open Knockout at the Solihull club. For a £5 entry fee the winner will receive a guaranteed £100. In addition to the main competition there will also be a first round loser’s knockout plus, depending on the number of entries a ladies knockout. Registration is 2.00pm with a 3.00pm start

Despite a 5-2 win at Brewood British Legion, Wednesfield FC lose their joint top position and slot into second place behind Riley’s ‘B’, whose 7-0 win at Bushbury WMC puts them top on average from Wednesfield. Making up the top three teams is Riley’s ‘A’, their 6-1 win at Round Oak keeping them on level points with the two teams above them

Fourth in the table Whitmore reans WMC suffered a shock 4-3 home defeat at the hands of the Bushbury Arms ‘B’ team And are now six points behind the top three teams.

A total of 52 players turned out for the Riley’s Knockout at the Wolverhampton based club and the competition produced top class darts throughout.

The eventual winner of the £180 first prize was Shropshire’s Matt Williams, who in the final beat his county team mate Dan Astbury by 6-4, despite Astbury notching three maximums to the one from Williams.

As runner up Astbury received £80 and there was £40 for each of the losing semi finalists, Sam Hamilton and Rob Thompson, both of them losing by a close 5-4, Hamilton to Williams and Thompson to Astbury.

The losing quarter finalists were, Simon Preston, Gurpal Singh, Mick Plevin and Kevin Bambrick, who each picked up £20.
