Week three in the Sheldon and District Summer League and out of the 41 teams in the league only seven of them have retained their 100% win record. In group one Riley’s Kings are top with five points from a possible six as are Mackadown Social in group two. However, in group two second placed Highwood Flights have only played two games and they have won both of them.

In group’s three, four, five and six the leaders in turn are George V ‘A’, Riley’s Rags, Raven and Highwood KB’s, who have all won their opening three fixtures and are the only teams in their respective groups to have won all of their games.

Group seven is the only group with two teams with a perfect start Greville Arms lead the field, but only on average from Ivy leaf ‘B’, both teams on six points.

Only a couple of maximum scores this week and they were supplied by, T.Frost (Riley’s Kings) in group one and in group four B.Salter (Custard House ‘A’).

Brickmakers had a setback to their title hopes in the Cradley Tuesday Night League this week as they suffered their second defeat in eighteen games. Playing at home against fourth in the table Jays Bar, Brickmakers lost 5-2, despite the result though they do hang on to the top spot with 32 points, but their advantage is now reduced to just two points. Quarry Bank Liberal Club are in second place and they kept the pressure on the leaders with a 5-2 win away to Hawne Lane Tavern, who drop from fourth to sixth in the table.

Village ‘A’ march on in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League, a 5-2 home win over Pavilion maintaining their four points lead at the top of the table. Not such good news for Victoria as they dropped from third to fourth place after a surprising 4-3 home defeat by Oxbarn, who move up one place to sixth. Victoria and Penn Bowling are both six points behind Village ‘A’. Otter and Vixen ‘B’ and Wolverhampton Sports Arena remain four points adrift of the top after in turn beating Ashmore Inn 6-1 and Bird in Hand 4-3.

A 5-2 win at King Charles keeps Electric in pole position in division two, with 26 points they are just two ahead of Village ‘B’, Bradmore and Riley’s ‘A’. Village ‘B’ won 5-2 at Yale Club, Bradmore had a close 4-3 verdict away to Roebuck and Riley’s A’ got the better of the local rivals Riley’s ‘B’ with a 4-3 result.

Week four in the Forest of Arden Summer League and in division one three of the five teams are locked on four points. Highwood ‘A’ are leading on average but are closely followed by Olton Crown, who lost for the first time this week, a 4-3 reversal away to Riley’s Red Arrows, who are now also on four points. At the other end of the table Harvester moved off the foot with a 5-2 win against Greville Arrows, who now take over the bottom spot.

Highwood KB beat Chelmsley Town 4-3 in division two to make it three straight wins and open a two points lead over The Crane and Sheldon Flights, who played each other this week, the latter winning 4-3.

5-2 wins from Riley’s Wings and Highwood ‘C over respective opponents Greville Arms and Ivy Leaf Bulls put the two teams on six points in division three, however Highwood ‘C’ have played one game more than Wings.

Riley’s ‘A’ lost the number one place in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League in a big way, going down 6-1 against local rivals Riley’s ‘B’. The ‘A’ side have dropped to fourth and the ‘B’ moved up to second. They together with Wednesfield FC and Whitmore Reans WMC are all on 28 points, Wednesfield FC heading the table with a superior average.

After the top four there is a gap of six points, Fordhouses CC and Moreton both on 22 points.

With the Bulls Head (Polesworth) having a bye in the Pip Club League this week, Dolphin took full advantage, beating Gate Inn 14-2 to take over the number one spot, but Bulls Head now have a game in hand. Third in the table Belgrave Club lost their second game in 21 fixtures, finishing on the wrong side of a close 9-7 scoreline in their away tie with fourth placed Dosthill Club, to put Dosthill within two points of their opponents.

In the Small Heath League, third paced Custard House closed the gap to four points between them and second placed Emerald Club when they beat them 5-4. Leaders Gulp Tribe who are a further four points ahead of Emerald Club won 6-3 away to Cobs Bar.

The foot of the table battle between bottom team Custard House Flights and next to bottom Redhill Wanderers saw Wanderers come out on top with an 8-1 result to open a two point’s gap between the two teams.

The Camp Hill League got their new season underway and in the opening fixtures there were big wins for both Bordesley Labour Club and Waggoners, who in turn defeated Crown Arrows and Station 6-1. In the other game played Scruffy Ringers beat Devil’s Club 4-3.

Riley’s Kings are champions of division one in the South Birmingham League. King’s finished with a total of 26 points from 14 games and four ahead of runners up Mackadown Social.

The division two championship was won by Pavilions, who with 30 points ended the campaign two points to the good on second placed Centurion.

Winners of the Tamworth League were the Three Horse Shoes, with Old Liberal House runners up. The players league title went to Tam O’Shanter’s Paul Smallwood, who with 36 points was three ahead of Mark DeLeon from the Anchor Inn.

With only cup fixtures remaining the latest knockout was the doubles and taking the title with a final victory over Sam Whittaker and Simon Caswell were Alan Carter and Martin Edwards.

Losing semi finalists were Paul Butler and Simon Adcock, who lost to the winners, and Darren Hunt and Ron Hunt.
