Warwickshire will be playing their sixth of the scheduled nine fixtures in the premier division of the Riley’s BDO Inter County Championships this coming weekend and their visitors at the Foleshill Club, Coventry, will be Surrey. The home side must look on this as a winnable game with 32 points separating the two teams, Warwickshire currently fourth and their opponents bottom of the table.

With the second half of the season underway in the Netherton Thursday Night League, Brickmakers ‘A’ are way out in front on a perfect 48 points from the 16 games played, their latest result was a convincing 7-2 win over their ‘B’ side who, are second in the table some twelve points adrift. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club are third on the same 36 points as Brickmakers ‘B’ but with a game in hand.

In the Cradley Tuesday Night League a close 4-3 win over Hawne Lane Tavern stretched Brickmakers winning run to five games and gives them a total of 10 points. Swan, who beat Bulls Head, Rowley, also have 10 points and are just one leg of average behind the leaders.

The Sports Bar Knockout was this week’s agenda for the Pip Club League and in the division one games there were wins for Sports Bar ‘180’ and J.W.Belgrave, while in division two Gate Inn and Belgrave Club progressed to the next round.

Congratulations to Robert Carr (Union), who in for the second year running won the Brierley Hill Friday Night League singles title. Playing at Dudley Sports he was unlucky not to make it a double as he and his partner Alan Moreton lost 3-1 in the final of the doubles to J.Batham and Pat Pace (Dog and Lamp Post).

Saltley Amateur Gardeners suffered a setback to their title hopes in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League in week 16 when they lost their home tie with second placed Crown at Shard End 5-4.

Saltley hang on to pole position but the gap between them and Crown at Shard End is now only two points, with both teams level on average.

Fox Flights were unable to field a team this week in division one of the Four Oaks and District League and their opponents Old Oscott Arrows were awarded a 9-0 result. The outcome is that Arrows have now moved into second place two points behind Sutton Sports, who have 20 points and one ahead of Fox Flights.

Anvil Nomads recorded their first win in twelve games, a 6-3 home success against bottom of the division Boldmere Sports.

Congratulations to The Beehive, who in their first season in the league have won the division three title after a 6-3 win at Bishop Vesey.

The second round of the Roy Parry Cup was the order of the day for the South Birmingham League. Smithswood Social were the biggest winners with an 8-1 result at home to Kingfisher. Mackadown Social had a 7-2 win against Banbury Flights, while Riley’s Kings and The Crown Shard End in turn won 6-3 against The Raven and Coleshill Social.

Crown’s M.Cooper hit the only maximum of the round and Banbury Flights man M.Cozons had a 160 break.

Riley’s Wings moved up one place in division two of the Forest of Arden Winter League as a result of their 5-4 win over Sheldon Flights, who drop two places to fifth in the table. Highwood ‘C’ take over fourth pace with a 5-4 win at Greville Arms.

Red Lion have moved into the top position in the Aston League on 18 points from 10 games, their latest win being a 5-4 success away to Deer’s Leap. Riley’s have moved up the table into third place with a massive 8-1 home win over Safe harbour. Riley’s, after nine games are now on the same 14 points as fourth placed Old Oscott WMC, who have played one game more. Sportsmans Rest are on 16 points, two behind Red Lion, but like Riley’s have a game in hand on the leaders.

Rowley Golf Club have been ousted from the number one spot in the Rowley Monday Night League following their first defeat in six games, a 5-4 reversal at Springfield Social. Bull Terrier take over the top spot, a 7-2 win against the Bell giving them 10 points from five games. Bull Terrier, Rowley Golf Club and Ivy Bush ‘Z’ all have 10 points.

Bordesley Labour Club moved off the foot of the Camp Hill League table with a 5-2 win at home to Custard House who have taken over the bottom place. Midland Dart Centre consolidated their top place with a 6-1 win over Waggoners, they are now two points clear of Scruffy Ringers, who also won 6-1 at Crown Arrows.
