Tipton Sports and Social Club was once again the setting for the annual Tipton Knockout. A total of 73 players set out to win the men’s event with some big names falling by the wayside up to the final stages.

The quarter finals saw top names like Jamie Caven go out to Tipton and West Midland player Ian Jones, another West Midlands player Jamie Hughes beat Mike Must and there were wins for Richard Hosey and Mick Baker who in turn defeated Colin Fowler and Stuart Earp.

The semi finals saw Ian Jones beat Richard Hosey and Jamie Hughes win against Mick Baker to set up an all West Midlands county final. The result was a win for Jamie Hughes, who picked up the top prize of £500 Jones received £230 as runner up. Losing semi finalists Mick Baker and Richard Hosey each received £120 and there was £50 for each of the losing quarter finalists Jamie Caven, Colin Fowler, Stuart Earp and Mike Musto.

The Sheldon and District Winter League played just one fixture, a rearranged premier division game between Crown at Shard End and EBAHA. The game produced no fewer than 22 three figure score, both teams recording a maximum, for Crown at Shard End it was J.Prince and for EBAHA M.Downes. The outcome of the match was a 6-3 win for the hosts, Crown at Shard End who remain in second place, two points behind Saltley Amateur Gardeners. EBAHA are on place off the foot of the table, just two points ahead of Holy Souls.

One late result from division one saw Castle Vale residents Association win their home tie with Sheldon Social 5-4.

Three Tuns, third in the Tamworth League table played hosts to second placed Boot Inn in the latest round of fixtures. The outcome was a close 4-3 win for Boot Inn to put them level on games with leaders Three Horse Shoes, but trailing by nine points as the top team won 5-2 away to Wigginton to give them a total of 69 points. Three Tuns defeat leaves them a massive 19 points off the top spot.

Tam O’Shanter moved off the foot of the table following their 5-2 home win over Dolphin Inn. Replacing Tam O’Shanter in the bottom position is Mile Oak Rovers who lost 6-3 at the Anchor Inn.

In the players league all of the top three players lost this week. Kev Lawrence (Three Horse Shoes) was awarded a bye against leader Ash Bowyer (Wigginton), while second placed Paul Smallwood (Tam ‘O’Shanter) lost to fourth in the table Brian Bird. Third placed Pete Cheneler (Mile Oak Rovers) lost to Mark DeLeon (Anchor Inn). Ash Bowyer remains in pole position with 18 points, but then come a bunch of five players, Brian Bird, Kev Lawrence, Mark DeLeon, Paul Smallwood and Pete Cheneler all on 15 points.
