In the Quarter finals of the Sheldon and District Winter League’s Punch Bowl competition the all premier division clash between Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Crown saw the former win 5-3. Two division one teams, EBAHA and Yardley Arms met with EBAHA getting the 5-4 verdict.

The two other games went as expected, Old Bill and Bull (premier division) won 6-3 against New Firs Flights (division one) and Riley’s (premier division) won 7-2 against George V (division three).

In the Sheldon Shield the biggest winners were Pavilions and Shirley RBL Misfits, who both had 7-2 wins against respective opponents Castle Vale Residents Association and Yardley Ex Colts. Other teams to win through to the next round were, Small Heath Amateur Gardeners, Willclare Sports and Social, Sheldon Social, Glebe Community Association, Scanlons and Forget-Me-Not.

It was also cup week for the Four Oaks and District League, first the Brian Goodman Cup in which third division champions Drakes Drum had a fantastic 5-4 win away to division one team Sportsmans Rest and followed that in the semi finals with another 5-4 win over Old Oscott WMC form division two, who had taken out first division opponents Pint Pot Flights in the last eight. In the all division one semi final Plough and Arrows beat Sutton Sports 5-4.

There were no shock results in the quarter finals of the Ken Rust Cup and the semi’s went more or less to form as Pint Pot Arrows (division three) lost 6-3 to the Fox Inn from the first division and another division one side Anvil Nomads won 5-4 against second division opponents Oscott Social Clarets.

The Open Cup quarter finals was on the Pip Club League’s fixture card, the two remaining division two teams Pip Club and Travellers drawn against each other with the latter winning the tie. From the sic division one teams there were wins for Progressive Club, Dolphin and Red Lion, who in turn defeated J.W.Belgrave Club, Bulls Head (Polesworth) and Birchmoor Club.

The Custard House was the setting for the finals of the Camp Hill League’s Doubles and Singles Knockout’s. Winner of the singles was Sportsmans Carl Winters, who had a final success against Glynn Thomas from the Custard House, losing semi finalists were Daryl Jelly and Carl Betteridge.

There was more joy in the doubles for Glynn Thomas than he had in the singles. He and his partner Arturus Bogucianskas wrapped up the title with a final win over George Winters and Terry Blakemore. Losing out in the last four were, John O’Connor and Colin Attwood, plus Richard Cuff jnr and Bob Glover.

The Forest of Arden Winter League had the semi finals of the division one Divisional Cup and the quarter finals of their League Cup Pairs on their agenda. Both of the semi’s in the Divisional Cup finished with 5-4 scorelines and now Highwood and Old Bill and Bull will square up to each other in the final after accounting for respective opponents Riley’s Flights and Riley’s Red Arrows.

The League Cup Pairs produced a couple of shock results with division two outfit Greville Arrows winning 12-3 against first division opponents Old Bill and Bull and another second division side Highwood KB beating Highwood from division one 10-5.

The other two results went to plan as the other two division one teams Riley’s Red Arrows and Harvester in turn beat Riley’s Wings 12-3 and Chelmsley Town 8-7.

There was no change whatsoever in the Small Heath League as the fixtures produced a top five versus bottom five this week with all top five winning. As a result Mitre and Scanlons, with 20 points hold on to their four points lead over Custard House at he top of the table.

Scanlons were the biggest winners of the week handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Custard House Flights, Mitre, Custard House and Emerald Club all won 7-2 at the expense of Wagon and Horses, Cobs Bar and Redhill Tavern, while Midland Darts Centre had a 6-3 victory away to Sheldon Marlborough Flights.

It’s all change at the top of the E.B.A.H.A. Double Top League, Neil Parsonage moving up from second place to take over the number one spot after chalking up 3-0 wins against Kerry Enefer and Andy Grieve, giving him 56 points from 16 games. Matt Cooper also moved up one rung of the table to second place, two 3-0 wins over his opponents Claire Cottrell and Andy Grieve taking his points tally to 49. Martin Cooper is a further four points behind Matt and former leader Dave Carter, who has dropped to fourth place is on 39 points, some eighteen points adrift of leader Neil Parsonage, but he does have three games in hand.

Sports Bar ‘180’ lost ground in the Tamworth Sports Bar League title race, going down 4-3 away to Globe ‘A’, who are in the bottom half of the table. Sports Bar ‘180’ now trail leaders Three Horse Shoes by 24 points and have played one game more than the leaders. Three Horse Shoes took their unbeaten run to thirteen games, handing out a 7-0 drubbing to their opponents Wigginton.

In the players league bottom of the table Rob Taft (Sports Bar) registered his first win of the campaign, beating fourth in the table Brian Bird from the Dolphin. Top of the table Trevor Barrs beat Graham Gilliver and now has 39 points, nine more than his nearest rival Mark Tomlinson.

Wilson Hall, table toppers in the Rowley League lost their first fixture of the seven played so far this season, a surprising 6-3 defeat at home to sixth in the table Ivy Bush ‘A’. Despite the defeat Wilson Hall remain in pole position on 12 points, however, Gate Hangs Well, who won 5-4 at the Timbertree have now joined them on the same number of points, but with an inferior average.

Boat have dropped from second to fourth, losing 5-4 away to Ivy Bush ‘Z’, who have leaped up the table from fifth to third.

Golden Cue had their first win in seven, beating Spring Meadow 5-4 to move up four places from the bottom of the table.

A final reminder that this coming Saturday the Small Heath League will take on the Gulp Charity Team at the Custard House, Bordesley Green in a charity match with all proceeds going to “The Little Hearts Matter” charity. Entry is free, with a raffle taking place to raise funds for the charity.
