The journey to Essex to take on the local county in the Premier division of the Riley’s BDO Inter County Championships was not a good one for Warwickshire and leaves them in the relegation danger zone with just one more fixture to play.

All four of the teams lost, for the men Mark McGeeney (30.24) was the ‘A’ side’s top player in a 7-5 defeat while Dave Sanders (28.90) took the ‘B’ teams award as they went down 9-3, only their second defeat of the campaign and after five consecutive wins.

Trina Gulliver (27.33) was the sole winner for the ladies ‘A’ and Angela Jones (18.85) emulated that in the ‘B’ teams 5-1 reversal.

The overall score was a 26-10 win for Essex leaving Warwickshire third from bottom on125 points, below them Surrey on 124 and bottom of the table Cornwall with 121. The final game of the season, a home tie against middle of the table Kent will be vital to Warwickshire’s premier division survival.

The Four Oaks and District League staged their Central Container Services sponsored Derek Masters Trophy at two venues, Aston Social and the Red Lion.

At Aston Social the semi finals both finished with close 2-1 results and wins for C.Perry (Sutton Sports) and K.Shepherd (The Fox) who in turn beat J.Collins (Sportsmans Rest) and C.Millward snr (Fox and Dogs). In the final Shepherd had a straight 2-0 success, including a seven darts leg over Perry.

The Red Lion semi finlas saw J.Moon (Pint Pot Flights) lose out by the odd leg of three to team mate M.Archer and in a similar scenario J.Kavanagh (Sutton Sports) beat his fellow Sutton player D.Vickers. Kavanagh then went on to beat Archer 2-0 in the final.

K.Shepherd and J.Kavanagh will now play each other in the singles final on 19th April at the Red Lion, Erdington.

Colin Wyatt is the winner of the Gulp League’s Captains and Secretaries Knockout he won the final against Peter Yardley 2-1. In the last four play off Wyatt beat Becky Blakeman 2-0 and Yardley, by the same margin took out Matthew Cooper.

The league’s Victoria Cup was won by the Tribe with the Lions runners up.

The Small Heath League staged a top of the table clash this week with unbeaten leaders Custard House hosting second placed Emerald Club. The outcome was a vital 5-4 victory for Emerald Club to put them on the same 18 points as Custard House, however, they have played two games more.

Hay Mills Social have moved off the foot of the table after chalking up their first win in ten games, a 7-2 home success over the Devils, who have replaced Hay Mills in the bottom spot.

It was victory for the Sheldon’s over the Greville’s in division two of the Forest of Arden Winter League as Sheldon Arrows beat Greville Arms 5-4 and leaders Sheldon Flights won their home tie against Greville Arrows 6-3.

In division one Riley’s Red Arrows continued their winning rum with an 8-1 win over Chelmsley Town to make it fifteen wins in as many games, second placed Old Bill and Bull, who are four points adrift of the leaders won 7-2 at home to Highwood ‘A’.

The Pip Club League have got their new season underway and leading the way after two games in division one is Birchmoor Club, who this week won 13-3 away to newly promoted Two Gates Club.

In the second division Bolehall Swifts and Bulls Head (Polesworth) are the early leaders, level on the same points and average. Queens Head also have the same four points as the leading duo but trail slightly on average.

It’s good news for the Camp Hill League as they kick off their new campaign they have doubled the number of teams in the league from what they had last season. The early pacesetters is one of the new teams, Langley Hall who could not have had a better start to the season, they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to another newcomer Scruffy Murphy’s. Other winners on the opening day were, The Roost, Devils Club and reigning champions Lady Westminster.
