It was cup’s week in the Four Oaks and District League this week, first round one of the Coronation Shield in which third division’s Pint Pot Arrows went 4-2 down to division one outfit Boldmere Sports, but took the next three games to finish 5-4 winners. League leaders Sutton Sports had a convincing 9-0 victory over Sportsmans Rest ‘B’ with J.Kavanagh hitting a maximum for Sutton.

Other winners going into the hat for round two are, Anvil Nomads, Red Lion Flights, Sportsmans Rest ‘A’ and Fox and Dogs.

In round one of the Norman Day Cup 160 break from M.Bowles plus a maximum from J.Clark didn’t help Drakes Drum who lost 6-3 at home to Royal Oak. Aston Social fared better when J.West’s 180 helped them to a 6-3 victory over Brookvale, but that was not the case with Grave Diggers as their K.Brush found the three treble twenties as his side went down 7-2 hosting Old Oscott Arrows. Other winners were The Dragons, Oscott Social Clarets and Old Oscott WMC.

A close 5-4 win away to Wagon and Horses made it six straight wins for Custard House in the Small Heath League and maintained their two points lead over second in the table Emerald Club, who had a bye this week.

Third placed Mitre, the reigning champions stayed in touch with the leading pair chalking up a 7-2 home win over the Devils, but they do trail Custard House by four points.

The quarter finals of the League Cup was on the Forest of Arden Winter League’s programme, the biggest winners of the round being Olton RBL, who beat Sheldon Arrows 12-3. As expected the tie between second in the table Riley’s Flights and third placed Old Bill and Bull was a very close affair with Riley’s just getting 8-7 verdict. Something of a surprise was the 10-5 home defeat of Highwood ‘A’ who are fifth in the league, going out to Chelmsley Town who are three places below them.

In the other last four encounter no surprise that Sheldon Flights beat bottom of the table Greville Arms 10-5.

The Camp Hill League remains a two horse race after leaders Roost beat Clements Arms 4-3 to give them 16 points and second in the table Lady Westminster won 5-2 against Devils Club giving them 14 points, the rest of the field now trail by at least eight points behind the leaders.

Three Horse Shoes consolidated their number one spot in the Tamworth Sports Bar League with an emphatic 6-1 home win over Wigginton to give them a total of 57 points, nine more than their nearest rivals Sports Bar 180 who had a close 4-3 success away to Globe ‘A’.

St John’s Club lost ground in the title race as they went down 4-3 at home to Globe ‘B’ and a s a result have dropped to fourth place and are now a massive 18 points adrift of Three Horse Shoes. Taking over the third place are Hustlers who handed out a 7-0 whitewash in their away game with bottom of the table Market Vaults.

In the players league Grant Harris lost to Paul Whittaker and now trails the leading trio of Lee Kirkham, Mac Tarbuck and Paul Whittaker by three points.

Cup fixtures were the order of the day for the Sheldon and District Winter League. In round two of the Punch Bowl the top two premier division teams, leaders Olton RBL and reigning champions Saltley Amateur Gardeners faced up to each other on Olton’s board. As the norm with these two teams the result was close, Olton just going through with the narrowest of 5-4 victories. Not such a problem for Kingshurst and District Labour Club as they trounced their opponents Yardley Ex Colts 8-1. Also going through to the next round will be, Custard House, Holy Souls, Bagot Arms, Iron Horse and Crown.

In the preliminary round of the Sheldon Shield the winners were, Meadway Sports and Social, Old Bill and Bull, Shard End Social, Beaufort Sports and Social, Stechford Social, New Firs, Langley Hall Sports and Social, Riley’s, Pavilions and Yardley Arms.
