In the Riley’s BDO Inter Counties Championships both Warwickshire and West Midlands play vital games this coming weekend. Warwickshire, with just one win in four games this season and rooted at the bottom of the premier division have a tough home tie at the Bishopsgate Club, Foleshill Road, Coventry where they will take on second in the table Lancashire, a total of 40 points separating the two teams.

West Midlands are currently second in the division two promotion table, 15 points adrift of leaders London and this weekend they have the opportunity to either reduce or even overtake London’s lead when they travel to Wandsworth to take on London at the Greenside Social Club.

With the second half of the season barely underway Saltley Amateur Gardeners hold a massive six point’s lead over their nearest rivals Mackadown Social and Olton RBL in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. Making it 13 wins in as many games Saltley’s most recent success was a convincing 8-1 away win against Pavilions, while Mackadown went one better with a 9-0 win at Iron Horse and Olton matched Saltley with an 8-1 win at home to Stechford Social.

In division one Kingshurst Labour Club are in pole position on 22 points, two more than second placed Old Bill and Bull. Kingshurst won their fixture at Highwood 7-2 while Old Bill and Bull lost ground as they went down 5-4 at Redhill Tavern.

Forget-Me-Not are the division two leaders, they lead Custard House and Yardley Arms by two points.

After their recent defeat against Sportsmans Rest, Sutton Sports returned to winning ways in division one of the Four Oaks and District League, but it was oh so close. Playing at home against Anvil Nomads Sutton found themselves trailing 4-2 before going on to win the tie 5-4. Sportsmans Rest kept the pressure on the leaders with

a 6-3 win at White Lion. Boldmere Sports, who beat Red Lion Flights 5-4 are on the same sixteen points as Sportsmans but have played one game more than the two teams above them.

In division two the Fox continue their unbeaten run, extending it to ten games with a 7-2 home win against Pint Pot, they rae now six points clear of both Deer’s Leap and Fox and Dogs.

Drakes Drum hold a similar advantage over Safe Harbour and Royal Oak in division three after beating Bromford Social 7-2 and seeing Safe Harbour go down 5-4 at home to Brookvale. Royal Oak had a 6-3 win over White Lion Barrels.

It was bad news for Beaufort Social Club in the Small Heath League as they lost their home game against St Andrews Tavern 5-4 which saw them knocked off pole position and see Mitre, who beat Wagon and Horses 7-2 replace them at the top of the table. Both teams have 16 points but Mitre not only have the superior average but also two games in hand.

There were a couple of shocks in the Forest of Arden Winter League as Old Bill and Bull, who were second in the division one table to Riley’s Red Arrows, lost 7-2 to third placed Olton RBL. Riley’s took their undefeated run to eight games with a close 5-4 win over Victoria Flights.

In division two Harvester went down for the first time in seven games losing 5-4 at home to fourth paced Greville Arrows. The loss has seen Harvester drop to second in the table with Sheldon Flights replacing them after a 7-2 win over bottom of the table Old Bill and Bull Flights.

Glascote Club had their division one fixture against Winning Post cancelled in the Pip Club League this week and as a result lost the top place to Red Lion ’A’ who had an 11-5 win at Three Horse Shoes. Glascote now trail by one point, but with a game in hand.

On the individual scene there were maximums for H.Crowley (Belgrave Club) and G.Storer (Kettlebrook Club), plus a 14 darts leg for Paul Whittaker (Three Horse Shoes) and a 104 checkout from Polesworth Darts Club’s Spencer Hawsworth.
