It looks as though it is going to be a cold winter for the Warwickshire County Darts Organisation as they finished the year with a record of played three lost three in the premier division of the Riley’s British Inter Counties Championships. The latest fixture was a home tie against Cheshire, who in all fairness are currently riding high in the table in third place, but it was a game which Warwickshire needed points to lift them a little higher in the table. The result was a massive 27-9 victory to the visitors with all four Warwickshire teams losing and the team dropping to the foot of the table. The men’s ’A’ went down 10-2, the ’B’ 7-5 and both ladies teams lost 5-1. Award winners were Nigel Heydon (’A’ 27.83), Mark McGeeney (’B’ 28.36), Trina Gulliver (’A’ 28.36) and Tracey Edgecombe (’B’ 17.70).

In division two of the Inter Counties Championships West Midlands were away to Norfolk and they too required points to move them up the table to establish them as promotion candidates.

In Saturday’s games the men’s ’B’ had a 7-5 win with Richard Foster in top form to take the man of the match award with a 27.65 average. Lisa Astbury (16.63) was the ladies sole winner. Sunday saw the ladies once again lose 5-1, on this occasion Sarah Robbins (19.08) was the only winner. Steve Farmer was in tremendous form for the ‘A’ side as he recorded a superb 32.67 average, but sadly it was not enough as the game finished all square at 6-6 and the overall result a 21-15 win for Norfolk.

The premier division fixtures of the Sheldon and District Winter League brought together the top two teams this week, leaders Saltley Amateur Gardeners playing hosts to second placed Mackadown Social. The result was 6-3 win for Saltley and although Mackadown have a game in hand they now trail by six points.

It’s neck and neck in division one where Highwood and Kingshurst Labour Club are locked together on 18 points, the former having the slightly better average. Highwood had a 6-3 win away to Shard End Social, while Kingshurst had a narrow 5-4 success away to bottom of the table Shirley RBL Misfits.

In the second division Custard House, following their shock 6-3 defeat away to bottom three Shannons, have lost pole position and dropped to third. Yardley Arms who beat Golden Acres 7-2 take over the number one spot with Forget-Me-Not in second place after a 5-4 home win against George V.

First round cup games were on the fixture card for the Four Oaks and District League, first the Brian Goodman Cup in which second division Oscott Social trailed 3-1 to first division opponents Boldmere Sports, but came back fighting to win 6-3. Third division leaders Drakes Drum went one better, winning the last game to knockout another division team, Red Lion Flights. Biggest winners of the round were Sportsmans Rest, a flattering 9-0 against Cross Keys PPA. Other winners through to round two are, Safe Harbour, Fox and Dogs and Sutton Sports.

In the Ken Rust Cup division three’s Reddicap Tavern earned a deserved 7-2 win against Old Oscott WMC from division two, while the tie between White Lion and Deer’s Leap finished in a bizarre 4-4 draw, both teams failing to field a ninth player. The tie went to leg count and White Lion went through as winners by a single leg.

Other winners were Royal Oak, The Fox (T.Martin 180) and Brookvale.

There was a shock for Gate Inn, third in division two of the Pip Club League, when they were defeated 9-7 by Old Liberal Club. Prior to the match Old Liberal had lost all eight of their games, but their first win of the campaign has seen them move off the foot of the table to be replaced by Red Lion ’B’ who lost 10-6 away to leaders of the division North Warwick Cricket Club.
