Warwickshire have played five of their scheduled nine fixtures in division one of the BDO Inter Counties Championships and are currently second in the promotion table just two points adrift of leaders Gwent. This coming weekend that could all change as Warwickshire play hosts to Gwent at the Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry. A win would see them take over the number one spot and enforce their challenge for a quick return to the premier division.

At the other end of the table bottom team Middlesex will be visiting our area this weekend, to be exact Gilberts Bar, Willenhall, where they will face up to West Midlands. It is really a must win match for the West Midlands to give them a bit of breathing space over the two teams below them Hertfordshire and Middlesex. Three teams are locked together on 20 points at the top of the premier division in the Sheldon and District Winter League. However, current leaders Shard End RBL not only have the better average but also a game in hand on their rivals Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Mackadown Social, its close at the top of division one with just two legs of average separating Vaughans and Stechford Social, the former heading the table.

In the second division Old Bill and Bull kept their 100% win record intact with a convincing 7-2 win at Barley Mow. They now have maximum 26 points from 13 games, second placed Willclare Sports and Social keeping the pressure on them with an 8-1 win away to Bordesley Labour Club to give them 26 points but from 14 games.

Sutton Sports maintained their four points lead at the top of division one of the Four Oaks and District League with an impressive 8-1 win at Boldmere Sports, while second placed Sportsmans Rest had a narrow 5-4 home win over Red Lion Flights. T.O’Kereke (Cross Keys PPA) had a terrific game against Anvil Nomads hitting 121,108,3×140,2×100,135 and a 108 break, unfortunately it was not enough for his side to avoid a 5-4 defeat.

In division two Old Oscott Arrows dropped from pole position to second following a 6-3 reversal at the Fox. Oscott Social have taken over the number one spot, their 5-4 home over Deer’s Leap Flights giving them a total of 20 points, two more than Old Oscott Arrows.

Although Trevor Frost has not won one of the last three ‘A’ knockout’s recently he still has 102 points and a lead of 21 over his nearest rival Ian McFarlane in the Brook Meadow Knockout League. McFarlane won the latest ’A’ knockout with a straight 3-0 victory over Jason Evans in the final. The ’B’ knockout was won by Frost, a 2-0 success over Keith Kelly.

Jim Norris is the first player to win the newly formed Grange Sunday Night 301 Charity League. With 54 points from 22 fixtures Norris finished seven points ahead of runner up Matt Cooper. Norris also won the league’s Children In Need Knockout with a final 2-0 win over Julian Harris. Matt Cooper meanwhile chalked up a close 2-1 win against Mike Harris in the final of the singles. The doubles were won by Julian Harris and Noreen Harris with Dave Watkins and Mike Forsythe losing out in the final 2-1, but Watkins did clinch the Club Knockout beating Tom Martin 2-1 in the final.

A 4-3 home defeat at the hands of the Lions team has seen the Tribe knocked off their perch at the top of the GULP League. Moving up to the number one spot is the Beasts who beat Rebels 4-3.

The Small Heath League have been engaged in their 501 End of Season Knockout Competition and taking the honours was Terry Constable (Beau Brummie) who defeated Potcheen Still’s representative Matthew Cooper in the final.
