As the BDO Inter Counties Championships fast approach the midway point of the season Warwickshire County Darts Organisation are enjoying a fabulous campaign so far with four wins in as many games. The latest fixture was a home tie with Derbyshire and it was the two ‘B’ teams that pulled the win out of the fire. The men chalked up their first win of the season 7-5 with Tony Brown their top player with a 29.47 average. It was also the first win for the ladies, a 4-2 verdict with Caroline Pike (16.70) taking the match award.

After three consecutive wins the men’s ’A’ team finished on the wrong side of a 7-5 result, Nigel Heydon having a tremendous 3-1 win over Jim Beardmore to claim the match award with a superb 33.36 average. Taking the ladies ’A’ award, as it has now become expected was Trina Gulliver (26.19), the team finished all square at 3-3, giving an overall 19-17 victory.

On the fixture card for the Four Oaks and District League was the first round of their Coronation Shield Doubles Knockout. Despite having a depleted team both Deer’s Leap and Hill Social in turn had 9-6 and 8-7 wins over Royal Oak Ruffians and Boldmere Sports.

Division one leaders Sutton Sports won 10-5 at Cross Keys PPA in a game containing 40 scores of a ton or more. Other teams progressing to round two are, Oscott Social, Old Oscott WMC, Plough and Harrow Arrows, Sportsmans Rest had a bye.

Smethwick Labour Club suffered a set back to their title hopes in the Harborne and District Winter League when they went down 5-4 at Quinborne. They are now two points adrift of reigning champions Pheasant who are top of the table and had a 6-3 home win over the Queens Head, their first defeat of the campaign.

Midland Red are currently in third place after their 8-1 hammering of Avenue Social and should they win their game in hand will take over the number one spot.

A 3-1 victory against Robbie Earl saw Trevor Frost chalk up his fourth ‘A’ knockout win in five to lead the Coffin Club Knockout League with 48 points. Neil Parsonage holds on to second place although he lost in the first round of the ‘A’ knockout this week, he is now 14 points adrift of Frost.

Paul Larden recorded his second ‘B’ knockout win when he won 2-1 against Trevor Rainsford in the final and now moves up to sixth place in the overall league table.

Just one leg of average separate Sports Bar Club and Globe Inn at the top of the Pip Club League. In the latest round of fixtures Sports Bar won their home tie with Belgrave Club 5-3, while Globe, also playing at home beat Wiggy 180 7-1.

At the other end of the table Winning Post chalked up their first point of the season when they earned a 4-4 draw at Three Horse Shoes.

The Small Heath League have been playing off their Doubles Knockout and taking the title were Peter Yardley and Neil Parsonage from the Emerald Club. The winning duo beat fellow team mates John Phipps and Mick O’Sullivan in the final.

Losing semi finalists were, Eddie Bullock and Danny Webb (Victoria Flights) and Glynn Thomas and Colin Wyatt from the Custard House.
