Played three, won three that’s Warwickshire’s record so far this season in division one of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships. The latest fixture saw Warwickshire make the short journey to take on neighbouring Staffordshire, returning with a 19-17 victory. The win has taken them into second place in the promotional table with 68 points just five short of leaders Gwent.

The men’s ’A’ side stretched their winning run to three with their second consecutive 8-4 result, Steve Hine (29.31) winning his second match award in as many games. Mark Kane (28.90) took the ’B’ side’s award, but his team are still struggling to win their first game as they finished on the wrong side of a 7-5 verdict for the third time.

The ladies teams both finished all square at 3-3 with Trina Gulliver (22.10) the ’A’ teams top player and Denise Burke (15.90) the ’B’s.

In the same division West Midlands played away against Dorset and went down 19-17. With one win in three, Dorset was really a winnable fixture. The men’s ’B’ were the only winners of the weekend, a 7-5 result with Nicky Bache (34.16) taking the man of the match award. Jamie Hughes (30.06) was the ’A’ side’s top man as they lost 8-4, as with Warwickshire, the ladies teams both shared the points, Lisa Astbury (19.76) won the ’A’ teams award and Sarah Robbins (17.72) was the ’B’ teams winner.

The Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League began their new campaign and also their new format. Week one’s games consisted of a knockout to determine who would play in group’s ‘A’ and ‘B‘. Winners were Tony Comerford, Carl Winters, Chris Davis, Rob Wilson, Ian McFarlane, Trevor Frost, Jason Evans and Keith Kelly. Losers, who will go into group ’B’ were Terry Blakemore, Mathew Gallett, Jason Fathers, Robbie Earl, Jake Smith, Stuart Bliss, Adam Gallett and Mark Elkin.

Cross Keys PPA winning run in division one of the Four Oaks and District League came to an end this week as they went down 6-3 at home to current leaders Sutton Sports, who have won all four of their games so far. Another team who has a 100% record is Sportsmans Rest who won their home tie with Hill Social 5-4, T.Evans notching a maximum for Hill. Boldmere Sports recorded their first win of the season a 5-4 success at home to Boot Flights.

In the second division, despite a 6-3 defeat at Plough and Harrow Arrows, Old Oscott Arrows hold on to pole position but only on average as four other teams, Oscott Social, the Fox, Aston Social and Bromford Lions join them on the same six points.

In division two of the Sheldon and District Winter League, Highwood fell to their first defeat of the season when they lost 5-4 at home to second placed Willclare Sports and Social. Leaders Old Bill and Bull remain unbeaten after handing out a 9-0 whitewash to Small Heath Amateur Gardeners and stay ahead of Willclare with a superior average.

In division one Lea Hall Sports and Social chalked up their first win in seven, a close 5-4 win at Small Heath Gardeners Flights. However, they remain rooted to the foot of the table, level on points with Yardley Ex Colts, just one leg of average separating the two teams.

The top three teams in the premier division all won 7-2. Leaders Shirley RBL won their home tie with Castle Vale Residents Association and have 12 points, closely followed by Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Mackadown Social, who both have 10 points and in turn defeated RAFA and Pavilions.

In the Small Heath League there were 7-2 wins for Custard House and Victoria Flights against respective opponents Small Heath Amateur Gardeners and Beau Brummie. Emerald Club beat Wagon and Horses 6-3 P.Yardley recording his third 180 of the season. Potcheen Still had a close 5-4 verdict at Victoria 301 Club.
