Brook Meadow suffered a shock 6-3 home defeat at the hands of the Castle Vale Residents Association team this week in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. As as result of their loss Brook Meadow have been knocked off pole position and dropped to fourth in the table. Replacing Brook at the head of the division is Shirley RBL who had a convincing 7-2 victory away to bottom of the table Saxon. Saltley Amateur Gardeners chalked up a resounding 8-1 success away to Pavilions and move into second place with Mackadown Social third after their 7-2 win at Sheldon Dukes. Saltley, Mackadown and Brook are all on eight points, two adrift of Shirley.

In division one there was a similar occurrence when former leaders Sheldon Heath Social lost 6-3 at Shard End Social and lose top spot to Stechford Social who had a close 5-4 home win over Yardley Ex Colt, only average separates the chasing four teams, Sheldon Heath Social, Scanlons, Shard End Social and Kingshurst Labour Club, who are all two points behind the leaders. Scanlons won 5-4 as they hosted Small Heath Gardeners Flights and Kingshurst Labour won 6-3 at Lea Hall Sports and Social.

A 6-3 win at Glebe Community Association maintains Old Bill and Bull’s 100% record and sees them at the top of division two. However, they are closely followed by Willclare Sports and Social who only trail on average after a similar 6-3 win against Yardley and District Darts Team. Highwood recorded a 9-0 whitewash over Barley Mow and are third, two points behind the leading duo with a game in hand.

The league will be staging round one of their Punch Bowl tomorrow night, the full draw is, Small Heath Gardeners Flights v Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Pavilions v Brook Meadow, Lea Hall Sports and Social v Glebe Community Association, Shannons v Shard End RBL Vikings, Shard End Social v Bordesley Labour Club, Custard House v Sheldon Heath Social, Castle Vale Residents Association v RAFA, Old Bill and Bull v Small Heath Amateur Gardeners, Yardley Ex Colts v Sheldon Dukes, Scanlons v Kingshurst Labour Club, Millhouse v Shirley RBL (being played at Shirley RBL), Mackadown Social v Iron Horse, Shard End RBL v Yardley Ex Flights, Willclare Sports and Social v Saxon, Golden Acres v Stechford Social. Sutton Sports (formerly Midland Red and reigning champions) are once again leading the field in division one of the Four Oaks and District League with three opening wins to the new campaign, the latest being a 7-2 home success over Boldmere Sports. Sportsmans Rest, who won 5-4 at Red Lion Flights are just one leg of average behind Sutton and Cross Keys PPA, another team with an unbeaten record, had a 6-3 home win in their encounter with Anvil Nomads. At the other end of the table Old Oscott WMC, despite losing 5-4 at Hill Social moved off bottom place and replacing them with an inferior average is Boldmere Sports.

In division two Old Oscott Arrows have a clear two points lead, a 6-3 home win against the Fox extending thier winning run to three games. No fewer than five teams, Aston Social, Bromford Lions, Oscott Social, Pint Pot Flights and the Fox are just two points off the top.

Hitting a maximum this week were R.Green (Bromford Lions), C.Willetts (The Fox) and P.Bricknall (Oscott Social), all from division two, S.Paling (Sutton Sports) was the only player from division one to find the three treble twenties.
