Brook Meadow as a result of a 5-3 away defeat against their nearest rivals Olton RBL have been replaced at the top of the Sheldon and District Summer League group one table by their victors. Brook Meadow who were the only undefeated team in the group have dropped to second place one point behind Olton.

In group three there was a similar situation, former leaders Old Bill and Bull lost 5-3 away to Stechford Social, both teams at the time had a 100% win record, Stechford now go clear leaders by two points over Old Bill and Bull.

Chalkin up their first wins of the season this week were Hen and Chickens in group three who had a massive 7-1 win at Vaughans, group four’s bottom team Shannons beat Small Heath Gardeners Flights 6-2 and in group five Millhouse handed out an 8-0 whitewash to Barley Mow, not a bad way to get a winning sequence going.

The Small Heath League have played off their Mixed Doubles Knockout at the Victoria Club. The eventual winning duo were John McCaffrey and Gloria Lightwood with Eamon O’Sullivan and Dee O’Sullivan the runners up.

Losing semi finalists were Andy Cooper and partner Helen Davies plus John Quigley and Katie O’Sullivan.

The Pip Club League was another league to stage a top of the table clash with leaders Globe Inn travelling to take on second placed Belgrave Club. Prior to the encounter Globe were top by just one point, but Belgrave did have the advantage of a game in hand. The result was a 5-3 victory for the Globe, Belgrave’s first defeat of the season and leaving them holding on to second place just one point ahead of Glascote Club who beat Wiggy 180 5-3.

In division two leaders Winning Post dropped their first points of the campaign when they could only draw 4-4 in their away game against Three Horse Shoes. Winning Post hold on to pole position with 17 points from 9 games, while second in the table Three Horse Shoes are four points behind and have played 10 games.

The West Midlands Super League have played off their Averages Knockout. The event is open to any member of the league who has recorded an average during the season. Winner of the men’s competition was Tipton player Ian Jones with Smethwick representative Frank Johnston runner up.

The ladies final was an all Smethwick affair, Teresa Woakes claiming the crown, team mate and namesake Teresa Johnstone the losing finalist.

This coming Sunday the West Midlands Super League will be holding their AGM at Gilberts Bar, Field Street, Willenhall, commencing at 10.30am. The men’s league is nine aside and the ladies five with matches being played on Saturday nights.
