It’s still anyone’s guess as to who will win the Premier Division title in the Sheldon and District Winter League as Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Olton RBL and Shard End RBL ‘B’ are all level on 32 points with only average separating them. Shard End have played one fixture more than their rivals and Saltley are currently in pole position with the superior average.

In division one just two points separate the top three teams with RAFA again top on average only from Iron Horse, while Pavilions who are two points behind the leading duo hold on to third spot. Division tow has a clear cut leader in the shape of Kingshurst Labour Club. With 30 points from 17 games Kingshurst are two points ahead of second placed Farringdon Flights who have played 18 games.

The situation at the top of the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League is so tight that each week the leadership changes and this week it is the turn of reigning champion Trevor Frost to return to pole position. 3-0 wins against Terry Blakemore and Scott Austin has seen Frost amass a total of 97 points. Former leader Mark Birch played just one fixture against Dean McCauley and won 3-0 but has dropped to joint second with Jason Evans who won 3-0 against Terry Blakemore and 2-1 in his tie with Adam Gallett.

Just one maximum recorded this week and that was by Ian McFarlane.

Cup matches were on the fixture card for the Small Heath League and in the semi finals of the League Cup Mitre and Emerald Club in turn defeated Potcheen Still and Custard House.

The final of the Upside Down Cup will be contested by Victoria 301 Club and Victoria Flights who in the semi’s had respective wins over the Victoria and Wagon and Horses.

Custard House will be the setting for a charity exhibition match in aid of DEBRA in which Eric Bristow will take on eight representatives of the Small Heath League this coming Saturday. Tickets will cost £4 or £5 at the door plus a £1 raffle ticket. Play will commence at 8.00pm.

The Four Oaks and District League have been busy with their cup games. In the Coronation Shield final division one champions Midland Red added another piece of silverware to their cabinet when they defeated Sportsmans Rest 8-7 in a very high scoring game.

The semi finals of the Norman Day Cup saw another two close results both finishing 8-7, Anvil Nomads beating Cross Keys PPA and Hill Social with a last leg win narrowly getting the verdict against Deer’s Leap.

The Tribe extended their winning start to the GULP League season to four wins when they beat their nearest rivals the Who’s 4-3. Who’s hang on to second place but only on average from the Beasts who had an emphatic 6-1 home win over Devils who remain bottom of the table still seeking their first points of the campaign. Devils man John McCaffrey recorded a 170 break and also a nine darts leg.

Winner of the West Midlands Gold Cup Singles play off in the men’s competition was Tipton’s Peter Wyse who defeated Wednesbury man Mark Rollinson in the final.

The ladies winner was Wolverhampton’s Leanne Jennings with runner up Chris Banks (Wednesfield).
