As the halfway mark fast approaches in the Brook Meadow Individual Double Top League the man leading the way is Ross Macken on 65 points. Macken recorded two 2-1 wins this week against third in the table Jason Evans and Keith Kelly. Hot on Macken’s heels and only one point behind is reigning champion Trevor Frost who also had 2-1 wins over Dean McCauley and John Burdett.

Highest score of 180 went to Jay Murray, Mark Birch, Trevor Frost, Ross Macken and Jason Evans while the highest checkout of 139 was achieved by Ian McFarlane.

The top two teams in division one of the Four Oaks and District League met this week, undefeated leaders Midland Red playing hosts to their nearest rivals Boldmere Sports. As to be expected the result was close, the 5-4 verdict going in favour of the away side Boldmere, who at one stage held a 5-1 lead. The win has reduced Boldmere’s deficit to two points however, they have played one more game than the Red’s.

After a shaky start to the season Sportsmans Rest have now settled into their rhythm and a 5-4 win against Red Lion Flights has seen them climb to third in the table, just two points adrift of Boldmere Sports with a game in hand. There were maximums for D.Watkins (Sportsmans Rest) and M.Cooper (Red Lion Flights).

There was also a top of the table clash in division two. Level on points Cross Keys and Anvil Nomads squared up to each other on the Keys board, but once again it was the visiting team that got the 5-4 result and Nomads have now opened up a two points lead with only two remaining fixtures.

Olton RBL and Shard End RBL ‘B’ are both locked on 24 points at the top of the premier division in the Sheldon and District Winter League. Olton had a 7-2 win at Brook Meadow while Shard End won their away tie against Shirley RBL 6-3. Olton have played one game less than Shard End, but they must keep an eye over their shoulders for third placed Saltley Amateur Gardeners who would move into pole position if they win their game in hand.

Just one leg of average separates RAFA and Iron Horse in division one, RAFA who beat Hen and Chickens 5-4 are top but Iron Horse reduced the arrears with a crushing 8-1 win over Sheldon Social.

A 6-3 win against Golden Acres maintains Kingshurst Labour Club’s two points lead in division two over Glebe Community Association.

Mitre, with a 5-4 win over second placed Victoria 301 Club extended their lead at the top of the Small Heath League to eight points. Emerald Club lost ground in the title race as they went down 5-4 at Potcheen Still they are now level on points and average with Victoria 301 Club. Also on the same 18 points as 301 and Emerald are Custard House and Wagon and Horses.

Finding the three treble twenties this week were Peter Yardley (Emerald Club) and Darren Brown (Custard House).

The GULP League got their season underway this week and biggest winners in the curtain raiser were the Who’s, who beat Rebels 6-1. Close behind were Lions and Tribe who in turn defeated Vicars and Devils 5-2. Beasts had a 4-3 success over Wagon 26’s.
