4-0 wins over Dean McCauley and Mark Elkin has given Ross Macken a total of 101 points from 21 games in the Brook Meadow Individual League and has taken him into pole position. Former leader Trevor Frost, wih no results this week has dropped to third in the table on 96 points, but with two games in hand on Macken. Jason Evans has taken over the number two spot following 3-1 wins against both Matthew Gallett and Jake Smith giving Evans 100 points from 24 fixtures.

Ian McFarlane’s good run continues as he accounted for Jake Smith (4-0) and Gordon Clinton (3-1). He now holds fourth place and has narrowed the margin between him and the current leader to just nine points.

In division one of the Four Oaks and District League Boldmere Sports recorded the biggest win of the week a 7-2 home success over newly promoted Deer’s Leap, the win as seen Boldmere join Midland Red at the top of the table, both on four points and level on average, the Reds having won 6-3 at home to Hardy Spicer. Reigning champions Sportsmans Rest did not have the best of starts to their title defence as they went down 5-4 at Boot Flights.

In the second division Anvil Nomads chalked up a 7-2 home win against Pint Pot to put them in pole position level on points with Cross Keys and Cross Keys PPA but one leg of average to the good on both teams. Cross Keys beat Old Oscott WMC 6-3, while PPA had a 5-4 win at Aston Social.

Some big wins in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, table toppers Olton RBL leading the way with an 8-1 away win at Castle Vale Residents Association. Banbury Club, Mackadown Social and Brook Meadow all won 7-2 against respective opponents Shard End Social, Shard End RBL ’A’ and Sheldon Dukes.

On the individual scene their were maximum scores from P.Nunn (Olton RBL), T.Randell (Saltley Amateur Gardeners), D.Sutton (Shard End RBL ’B’), L.Molyneux (Sheldon Social), I.Durrington and N.McCrave snr (Small Heath Gardeners), while their was 160 breaks for L.Allwood (Sheldon Social) and D.Mortiboys (Iron Horse).

The league will be staging the preliminary round of their Punch Bowl tomorrow evening, the draw is Olton RBL v Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Golden Acres v Malt Shovel, Pavilions v Lea Hall Sports and Social.

Emerald Club are the early pacesetters in the Small Heath League, but after only two fixtures are just one leg of average ahead of Victoria 301 Club. Emerald Club beat Wagon and Horses 6-3 and 301 Club won 7-2 at Custard House. Mitre, champions for the last two seasons recorded their first win of the campaign handing out a 9-0 whitewash to the Victoria.

Biggest shock of the week in the Pip Club League was provided by division two club Boot Inn (Grendon) who ended Wiggy 180’s winning run of five consecutive wins when they beat them 5-3 at home. Despite their defeat Wiggy 180 hold on to the number one spot with a two points advantage over second team Red Lion (Polesworth), Boot Inn are third on seven points, three behind Wiggy.
